Scott: Mr. Cassadine, did you ever have to stop Luke from having contact with Laura?

Nikolas: Years ago, I believed that contact with Luke could be harmful, but now I think otherwise.

Scott: Why do you think it was harmful for your mother?

Nikolas: Because of the psychiatrist's initial recommendation.

Scott: No other reason?

Nikolas: No other reason.

Scott: Do you know of any time that Luke was abusive towards your mother?

Nikolas: No.

Scott: You're under oath, Mr. Cassadine.

Nikolas: Laura never told me that Luke was abusive towards her.

Scott: That's not what I asked. But I'll move on. Do you have any recollection of a situation that happened between Luke and Laura at the campus disco on October 5, 1979?

Alexis: Objection, your honor. Relevance?

Judge: I assume you're going someplace specific with this?

Scott: Yes, your honor, I am going somewhere with this.

Judge: Overruled. Witness will answer.

Scott: Mr. Cassadine, what happened October 5, 1979, between Luke Spencer and Laura Baldwin? Do you want me to repeat the question?

Nikolas: No, you don't have to --

Scott: Well, we're waiting.

Nikolas: There was a rape.

Scott: I'm sorry, I didn't hear you.

Nikolas: Luke raped Laura.

Lulu: What?

Nikolas: Lulu -- lu, let me explain.

Judge: I'll have order in my courtroom.

[Judge pounds gavel]

Scott: You have not been dismissed, all right? Now, you get back on that stand, get back on that stand.

Nikolas: It was unnecessary --

Scott: Get back on that stand!

Tracy: Let's take a walk.

Judge: I asked for order!

Luke: Step away, son. Not now, don't do this here. Don't do this.

Scott: Your Honor, Mr. Cassadine's behavior has proven that he has no business being Laura Spencer's legal guardian. Mr. Cassadine has allowed the man who raped Laura unlimited access to the patient. Mr. Spencer's mere presence around Laura is what caused her all the trauma and sent her to catatonia. And when Laura did recover, Mr. Spencer lied to her, duped her into a phony marriage, not telling her that he was already married to that woman. Your honor, I would like you to appoint me Laura Spencer's legal guardian. She should have some peace, and I will respect her the way that she deserves to be. Thank you.

Alexis: Your Honor, what happened to Luke and Laura in 1979 happened between Luke and Laura. They have dealt with it, and it was forgiven a long time ago. Not only that, they went on to have a wonderfully successful marriage, they have two beautiful children. And the wedding that Mr. Baldwin was referring to was a wedding that Laura Spencer requested, because she wanted to be before her friends and family so they could hear her love and hear her make a commitment to Luke Spencer. Not to Mr. Baldwin, to Luke Spencer, and that is what Mr. Baldwin is unable to accept. That is why we're here. That is why he's orchestrated this circus that we're all forced to be a part of -- because he can't accept that Laura chose Luke and not Mr. Baldwin. Not only that, Mr. Baldwin is saying he wants to protect Laura, but he is not listening to her direct request -- a written request, I might add -- to appoint Nikolas Cassadine as guardian. Mr. Baldwin has wasted the court's time. He has also inflicted suffering on Laura's friends and family, and they don't deserve that. This is absolute nonsense. There is no substance to this case. I think there's no grounds, and I think it should be dismissed.

Judge: There's a great deal of evidence to review here. This is a complex and highly emotional case, and I want to examine the facts carefully before rendering my decision. In the meantime, Laura Spencer will remain a ward of the court.

[Judge pounds gavel]

Judge: This proceeding is dismissed.

Bailiff: All rise.

Lucky: Hey, dad, I'm going to see if Bobbie caught up with lulu.

Tracy: I'll go check the ladies' room.

Lesley: Well, Scotty, it took you most of your life to do it, but you finally "got" Luke, and with such style -- the way you devastated lulu in the process. Oh, my. You must be so proud.

Scott: I did what I did for Laura.

Lesley: I'm not sure that Laura could forgive you for that. I know I can't!

Lainey: I wish my testimony had been more helpful.

Nikolas: All you did was relate the facts of my mother's condition -- you can't ask for more than that.

Lainey: Listen, when the time comes, and if lulu's of the mind, have her come and talk to me.

Emily: Thank you, Lainey.

Nikolas: Yeah. Excuse me.

Lainey: You might want to encourage Nikolas to talk to me, too. I'm very good with anger management issues.

Alexis: I wish that I could read the judge, but I can't. We're just going to have to wait.

Nikolas: Thank you, especially for the -- for the damage control.

Alexis: I've got to check my messages. I'll let you know when the decision is in.

Nikolas: Ok.

Nikolas: I'm really sorry.

Luke: Don't be, Nikolas. You just told the truth.

Alexis: Hey.

Jax: Hey.

Alexis: I just came from court.

Jax: How did it go?

Alexis: Don't worry about the Spencer family problems. You got plenty of your own. And I heard that the pcpd lab is running a D.N.A. test on the sample that they found from the Metro Court restaurant. They're going to match that with the swab they took from Jerry.

Jax: Oh, well, we know it'll match.

Alexis: All it means is that Jerry was in the restaurant sometime before the sample was taken. It doesn't mean that he's James Craig. They can't prove that it came from Craig.

Jax: Yeah, but they -- they have -- they have the photo. Ok? And his psychopathic behavior -- it adds up to more than a coincidence.

Alexis: I can prove reasonable doubt in court, maybe. That is, if Emily and Nikolas and Carly testify that he isn't James Craig.

Jax: Why? Why, Alexis? Why are you doing this?

[Alexis sighs]

Jax: You're still recovering from the cancer and the chemo.

Alexis: I'm fine. I'm all right, honestly.

Jax: Look, you've got your plate full defending Nikolas in this guardianship mess, ok? The last thing you want to do is defend my brother, for something he did anyway.

Alexis: What's your excuse?

Jax: Force of habit. I can't help myself. He's my brother, I love him.

Alexis: I'm doing this so Emily doesn't go to prison. I'm doing this because if he goes down, you go down. And as you say you love your brother, I love you.

Jax: You know, I always hoped that Jerry would change, that he would see the error of his ways and be rehabilitated. It turns out a little tough love would have been a lot better for him. And now, it might be too late for redemption.

Alexis: I swear to you, I saw in him a little flicker of something good. Granted, my judgment stinks. I don't seem to have radar for psychopaths, murderers, or even your average simple jerk. Ric, Sonny -- they both came from the same dysfunctional family. Now, you were both raised by the same wonderful parents. How did you become so profoundly different? I'm telling you, I saw just a flicker of something good in him.

Jax: You saw what he wanted you to.

Alexis: He wasn't always like this, right? So something had to have happened to him -- something horrible -- to make him so twisted.

[Alexis sighs]

Alexis: What do you want from me? I'm a defense attorney. You know, I just am a sucker for the belief that even the worst human beings in the world have something redeemable about them. So maybe, just maybe, even Jerry can be saved.
