"This
is too Risky"
Alexis:
You can do this, Sam. You can survive. That way, we can spend all
the time we want getting to know each other. You look like you're
waiting for something.
Jason:
There is an operation that can save Sam, but it has to happen soon.
Patrick:
I need the latest test results on Sam McCall.
Elizabeth:
Thanks for making it back so quickly.
Patrick:
Is the O.R. Booked?
Noah:
Patrick -- if you operate on Sam McCall, you're going to kill her
Alexis:
I thought an operation isn't an option.
Jason:
There's a procedure called cranial --
Alexis:
I know what it is. Dr. Drake said that it's too dangerous.
Jason:
At least we'd be trying to help her.
Alexis:
Jason, I -- I know that you want to be able to do something right
now, but the best thing to do is to just give her a chance and wait
it out.
Jason:
The best chance that we have is the operation, and we need to do
it now before it's too late.
Alexis:
Who gave you this information?
Jason:
Elizabeth.
Alexis:
But, Jason, with all due respect, she's a nurse. She's not a neurosurgeon.
Jason:
She said Patrick Drake may be able to save Sam.
Alexis:
I know how you feel, and I don't want to destroy any hope that you
have, but that's why Elizabeth is not being objective right now.
She feels the same way. She knows you'll be destroyed if anything
happens to her and she wants to give you some kind of hope, but
that's not the right kind.
Alexis:
What are the options if she doesn't have surgery?
Noah:
We can treat her with medication.
Alexis:
What are the odds?
Noah:
Slim, but surgery would be fatal.
Alexis:
Why?
Noah:
Look, it's technical. If Sam were to have surgery, she would hemorrhage
into the surrounding neurovascular regions, which would inease the
edema, which would kill her.
Patrick:
My father's opinion is just that -- an opinion. If I don't decompress
the proximal spinal cord, Sam will die.
Noah:
Are you going to attempt a decompression osteotomy with a broken
wrist?
Patrick:
It's sprained, it's not a problem.
Noah:
My son is willing to risk your daughter's life to redeem himself.
In my medical opinion, surgery on Sam would be reckless.
Jason:
How do you know that, when you haven't let Patrick examine Sam yet?
Jason:
I want Sam to have the surgery.
Alexis:
Jason, please.
Jason:
This is what Sam would want, ok?
Alexis:
You're rationalizing.
Jason:
I'm not going to sit here and watch her die.
Alexis:
So you're going to kill her on the operating table?
[Alexis
sighs]
Alexis:
I'm sorry. Everybody's scared right now, but I honestly believe
that that operation is a mistake.
Jason:
I have already decided.
Alexis:
You're the one who chose to tell me that I'm her mother. Now, I've
accepted that. I would like a say --
Jason:
I told you Sam is your daughter because the doctors thought she
might die, and I knew that would make Sam happy. But right now I
am Sam's family, and I am the one who's going to make this decision.
You said there's no time to waste. Let's go. Let's do this.
Patrick:
Start prepping her for surgery. I called Dr. Quartermaine for a
cardiac consult.
Alexis:
You are throwing reason right out the window. Look at her. She's
holding her own right now. Why don't you just wait a minute and
let the medication work?
Jason:
Patrick says the operation has to happen right now, Alexis.
Alexis:
Patrick lost a patient last week. When I lose a case, I redouble
my efforts. I am more prudent the next time. I am more careful the
next time. He is not being careful. This
is too risky.
Patrick:
I need a signature to ok the surgery.
Jason:
Can you do the surgery?
Patrick:
Yes.
Jason:
This is Sam's best chance.
Jason:
Do you mind if -- do you mind if I do that?
Epiphany:
Go ahead.
Jason:
This isn't exactly how I wanted to celebrate your birthday. The
only present I can give you right now is to fight for your life.
I love you. I'll see you soon.
Singer:
2:00 A.M. And she calls me 'cause I'm still awake "can you
help me unravel my latest mistake? I don't love him winter just
wasn't my season" yeah, we walk through the doors so accusing,
their eyes like they have any right at all to criticize hypocrites,
you're all here for the very Same reason 'cause you can't jump the
track we're like cars on a cable and life's like an hourglass glued
to the table no one can find the rewind button, girl so cradle your
head in your hands and breathe just breathe oh, breathe just breathe
but you can't jump the track we're like cars on a cable and life's
like an hourglass glued to the table
Alexis:
You need to stop now.
Elizabeth:
You can't be in here.
Alexis:
This is a court injunction forbidding you to operate on my daughter.
Singer:
Sing it if you understand ...
