"Being Dependent on Someone is not the Same as Loving Them"

Alexis: Mr. District Attorney.

John: Ah, my favorite new A.D.A. How do you like your new setup?

Alexis: Very nice -- a corner office with a window, fresh-cut flowers. I don't recall my husband getting those when he was A.D.A. Very nice assistant brought me coffee just the way that I like it, and a research staff at my disposal. My only worry is, why.

John: Hey, don't look a gift horse. You get what you deserve.

Alexis: That's not necessarily a positive. You have an angle. I'm just trying to figure out what it is.

John: Well, you wound me to the quick. I give you everything you ask for; I even promise you never have to prosecute Sonny or Jason. What do I get for all my trouble? Gratuitous suspicion.

Alexis: Exactly. That's what I'm worried about.

John: Hey, well, maybe I just like seeing your pretty, smiling face first thing in the morning, huh?

Det. Rodriguez: Excuse me. There's been a shooting -- Miguel Escobar.

John: Was Escobar the shooter or the shootee?

Det. Rodriguez: We found his body in an alley off Durham, bullet to the chest. They did him somewhere else and dumped him, coroner's thinking within the last two or three hours. It's all very clean.

John: Well, that sounds like a professional hit. Tell Mac he might as well pick up Corinthos and Morgan.

Alexis: Why is Miss McCall here?

John: Well, we couldn't find Jason, so we brought in his fiancée or, as I like to call her, shark bait, Jason being the shark.

Alexis: Nice to see that your tactics haven't gotten more ethical.

John: Oh, did we forget to bring in your soapbox this morning?

Alexis: I just happen to believe in the rule of law, no matter how inconvenient it is.

John: Mm-hmm, right. This coming from the woman who got Manny Ruiz turned loose with a slap on the wrist.

Alexis: Rule of law. I'd like to question Sam McCall myself.

John: Whatever happened to "I don't want to have anything to do with Sonny or Jason"? I thought I was doing you a favor.

Alexis: New rule -- I decide what counts as a favor.

Sam: So now that you're working for Durant, you have the excuse you've been looking for. Go for it; take your best shot.

Alexis: I want you to look over my right shoulder and tell me who's looking back at you.

Sam: Durant.

Alexis: Then I suggest to you that you say nothing.

Alexis: I know you don't want to trust me, so stop thinking of me as the A.D.A. and think of me as someone who has been in the middle of Sonny and Jason and Ric for a very long time, just like you.

Sam: Please, don't compare us, Alexis.

Alexis: Don't be naive, Sam. I know what's going on, and it is not pleasant. Now, if I were you, I would go home, I would pack my bags, and I would leave before it was too late.

Alexis: A man was shot tonight. His body was dumped in an alley. Look, I know when you're around violence all the time, you can become desensitized to it. Don’t. That body was a human being. If you go now, I will make sure that you are not involved in any prosecution.

Sam: And I'm supposed to believe you?

Alexis: What is going on between Sonny and Jason right now has turned deadly. You need to know that. And I can't imagine that you would want to be a part of that. I'm also pretty certain that Escobar’s murder was Jason’s first move as a mob boss, and it won't be his last. He makes his living as a killer. You need to protect yourself.

Sam: Jason is my family. I don't need protection from him, and certainly not because you say so. And I don't walk out on the people I love.

Alexis: Being dependent on someone is not the same as loving them.

Sam: Look, I get where you're coming from. You think you can help me. I appreciate it. But really, save your breath. I love Jason. I'm not going to abandon him. So, now what can you do for me?

Ric: Oh, there you are.

Alexis: Hi.

Ric: Listen, in case you're waiting for them to bring Sonny in, you can forget it. And F.Y.I., I filed a court order barring any more nuisance arrests.

Alexis: Yes, I know. I -- I received your order, Mr. Lansing.

Ric: Hmm.

Alexis: It was premature, groundless, and doesn't apply to this case.

Ric: Remarkable.

Alexis: Thank you.

Ric: It was an observation, not a compliment. So, did you even punch the clock, or did Durant bring you in here to get you all warmed up?

Alexis: I figured it was never too soon to serve the citizens of this great city.

Ric: Oh, I'll remember to be grateful. For you.

Alexis: What's that?

Ric: That is all that's left of our partnership.

Alexis: If you didn't like our desk, you could have just traded it in. You didn't have to dismantle it.

Ric: Well, the desk wasn't the problem. It was just the notion that we could actually have a law firm inside of our living room.

Alexis: What'd you do with the rest of it?

Ric: Chopped it up for firewood.

Alexis: Nice work! Very environmental. You didn't waste any of it.

Ric: Well, thank you.

Alexis: So here we are, back right where we started.

Ric: Mm-hmm. Opposite sides of the fence. Oh, and by the way, this harassment by your department of Mr. Corinthos concerning the Escobar murder case -- it's got to cease.

Alexis: When did Sonny become your client?

Ric: I'm merely handling this matter for Mr. Corinthos.

Det. Rodriguez: Durant's looking for you, Ms. Davis.

Alexis: I'll be right there.

Ric: Well, I guess we can continue this later, but right now, I'm starving.

Alexis: I am, too.

Ric: Hmm.

Alexis: Can you bring home sushi for dinner?

Ric: Of course. You know how I love what you do with chopsticks.

[Alexis laughs]

Alexis: See you later.

Ric: Ok.

Alexis: Bye.
