"I Didn't Have a Choice"

Patrick: You have a real problem following orders, Mr. Lansing. I hope running around the hospital's worth risking your life.

Ric: You really should work on that bedside manner, doc.

Patrick: Yeah. If I say please, you'll listen? Look, I don't know if you've heard, but this thing has killed a couple people. Even the staff aren't immune.

Ric: I heard Tony Jones has it now, huh?

Patrick: Tony Jones was stricken so fast, there was nothing we could do. If we don't get your fever down, I don't much like your chances, either.

Ric: Hey. I don't know how to do this.

Sam: What?

Ric: Praying. I don't know the rules. I mean, are you supposed to light a candle, or is begging out of the question?

Sam: I guess it's really your call.

Ric: Religion wasn't a big thing in my family. My father and my stepmother never really went to church. They sure as hell never -- oh, boy. There it goes. Probably not the bt thing to say in a place like this, huh? They never -- never took me to church or -- or sunday school. Not like Sonny, you know? I mean, his mother -- our mother -- she took him every week, you know? She was a very religious woman. The mother I never knew. You know, uh, Dr. Drake -- the young one -- said that Sonny got the serum. That's good. I bet it's a reward for all of those -- those Sundays in church, huh?

Ric: Well, my mother would be happy. She loved Sonny. She chose him.

Sam: Hey. You're awake.

Alexis: I'm awake and I'm embarrassed, Sam. I'm so sorry.

Sam: Don't, please. I think we have all had fevery dreams. Did Danny hurt you?

Alexis: He was just protecting you -- I understand that -- and I'm glad Ric came in when he did. That way, no one got hurt.

Sam: I just -- I hope it didn't put a strain on him. I just saw him in the chapel and --

Alexis: Is he ok?

Sam: I'm not sure. I mean, he wasn't delirious or anything. He was --

Alexis: Did you call a doctor?

Sam: Everyone's running around. I pushed the call button, though, Alexis. I pushed the call button. A nurse will be there --

Alexis: Ok --

Sam: Hey. Are you ok?

Alexis: I'm a little dizzy. But that's ok, I can do it.

Alexis: Ric?

Ric: How did you get here?

Alexis: Sam, would you wait for me in case I need help getting him back to his room?

Sam: I'll wait.

Alexis: Sweetie, you need to go back to your room.

Ric: Why do you care? You never did before.

Adela: Of course I care. I love you.

Ric: No, you don't love me, you love Sonny. It's always been Sonny.

Alexis: That's not true.

Ric: You chose Sonny. You left me with my father and you never looked back! How could you do that? Why didn't you le me enough to keep me?

Ric: Did you ever think about me?

Adela: I think about you all the time.

Ric: You're a liar. How could you not wonder where I was, what I was doing? Did you ever wonder what it was like?

Alexis: Honey, you don't know what you're saying.

Ric: You know, I'm a father now, and I can't even imagine not thinking about when my little girl will take her first step or speak her first word, or watch her go to her first day of school!

Adela: There is no point in talking about this.

Ric: How could you give birth to me and then cut me out of your life? Do you just shut off your heart? Do you -- do you just cut out that -- that part of your heart that's the memory of me? How could you get up every morning and not think that you have a child out there?

Adela: You don't know what you're saying.

Ric: I want an answer. I need to know. Do you regret it? Huh? Are you sorry? What kind of a woman would give up her child?

Alexis: I didn't have a choice.
