"The Only Person that I'm Holding a Torch for is You"

Emily: I've seen Sonny with his children, Alexis. He's devoted to them, including his only daughter. Their safety is all he cares about.

Sonny: Emily, you don't have to do this.

Emily: No, I'm sick of people commenting on subjects they know nothing about. He's a good man, Alexis! He's trying to protect his family. So stop making this personal and try listening to him for a change.

Alexis: You're certainly defending him with passion. When did you seduce Emily?

Sonny: I'm not going to respond to that. What Emily and I are doing is none of your business.

Sonny: You and I have a beautiful daughter together, Alexis, but do me a favor. Stay out of my personal life.

Alexis: You're right. I shouldn't interfere. Apparently, we're all doing things that we shouldn't do. What are you doing? I have been with you all along. I -- I was with you through the Zander debacle. I held your hand when your marriage to Nikolas ended.

Emily: Alexis, we used to be related by marriage, but we're not anymore, and I don't appreciate you throwing around accusations.

Alexis: No, I care about you. I even care about him. I know that he's worth caring about. He has moments of unbelievable kindness. But, you see, he's driven by -- by a dark part of himself that he can't control, and I'm worried that he's going to destroy you.

Ric: Sweetheart --

Alexis: I don't want her to make a mistake.

Emily: That's not what I'm doing.

Alexis: You don't deserve this. Come on, she doesn't deserve this. You know that.

Ric: Come on.

Alexis: Emily, he can't deny it.

Emily: He doesn't want to fight, Alexis.

Alexis: Do you realize that you're speaking for him already? I'm really worried about you. My God, Emily, he could ruin your life.

Emily: Alexis, I'm never going to understand how you can be so wrong about the father of your child.

Alexis: Selfish things he can do -- I mean, picking on poor Emily of all people?

Ric: You know, if I didn't know any better, counselor, I'd say you're jealous. Didn't you defy all of the warnings to stay away from Sonny?

Alexis: Yes.

Ric: And didn't you defend him for years?

Alexis: They were billable. I made a fortune.

Ric: Alexis, you're acting like you're holding a torch for the guy.

Alexis: Oh, my. The only person that I'm holding a torch for is you. You and I have what I would call -- and I dare say this -- a real relationship. You get to be you, I get to be me, and we don't try to change each other, and it's working.

Ric: Mm-hmm.

Alexis: I didn't do that with Sonny. I tried to save him, I tried to rehabilitate him, make him a better man. I know that -- that I couldn't do that, so I know better now.

Ric: I understand that that was a very expensive lesson for you to learn.

Alexis: And look who I ended up with. I know that Sonny's not going to change. I just know that Emily doesn't understand that.

Ric: Ok, I agree with you. But don't you think that Emily needs to learn that on her own?

Alexis: I think it's going to come at too high of a price, and I'm worried that he is going to ruin her life.

Sonny: You shouldn't be here, Emily.

Emily: Alexis was being unfair.

Sonny: She was being honest, you know. I am selfish, I destroy people's lives, especially women. Alexis is proof of that.

Emily: She's just bitter.

Sonny: Well, she didn't used to be. I -- you know, Alexis and I were friends at one point. She was smart, she was funny, but you see how we are with each other. She gets, you know, defensive. I shut down, I want her to go away, but you know what? The truth is we'll always be connected because of Kristina. I'm sure for the rest of our lives we're going to be biting our tongues, choosing our words very carefully for the sake of our daughter. Alexis and I obliterated our friendship because we slept together. I would hate to see that ever happen to you. I'm starting to need you in my life. And if we got together, and you turned against me like Alexis, I don't know if I could live with it.

Emily: Yeah. I'm not sure I could, either.

Sonny: I'd rather have you in my life as a friend than risk losing you altogether.

Alexis: So what did I walk in on before?

Ric: Well, Sonny thinks that Manny's still a threat.

Alexis: It doesn't really matter what Sonny thinks, does it, because Manny gets a defense. That's the way the system works.

Ric: Well, I understand that, but that same system got sam mccall sitting in jail tonight.

Alexis: I'm sorry for that. It's unfortunate that she got arrested in her own bathroom. She's got to control herself. She's spouting off in open court. She's framing him. She very well may have shot him.

Ric: I know, and she also is attacking you on a very personal level every chance she can in this trial.

Alexis: You're not saying that I have a personal grudge against her?

Ric: No, no, no, no, no, you are a fierce competitor. But I just don't want you to be so focused on winning that you lose sight of what's really important here. You can win the case without exploiting sam's anger.

Alexis: You think that I drove sam to shoot Manny?

Ric: No, no. Not at all. Listen to me. This is a very controversial case and emotions are running very high. I --

[Phone rings]

Alexis: Alexis Davis.

Robin: Manny Ruiz just woke up and he wants to speak with you.

Robin: Manny came through the surgery with no complications. He's awake and alert.

Alexis: Does he remember anything?

Robin: He says he does, but you're the only person he'll tell.

Ric: Why wouldn't he want to tell the police?

Alexis: Why would he? They've been less than benevolent toward him. Thank you.

Manny: Ms. Davis, thank you for getting here.

Alexis: I understand that you wanted to speak to me.

Manny: Maybe I shouldn't.

Alexis: Why don't you just tell me what you remember about being shot.

Manny: The guards put me in a room. They left. The door opened, I got shot.

Alexis: Did you recognize the shooter?

Manny: He's from miami -- Juan Escobar.

Ric: A rival crime family?

Manny: Si. The Escobars hate my family, they always have.

Alexis: You're sure? There isn't anyone else that could've shot you?

Manny: I'm positive. The man who shot me is Juan Escobar.

Manny: Thank you.

Alexis: You get some rest. You've had a long day.

Ric: Sam's being released right now.

Alexis: Good, I'm glad. I'm glad she's not the shooter. I know this whole thing's been a nightmare for her.

Ric: Yeah, for all of us.

Alexis: You've got to be feeling a little bit better about this.

Ric: Really? Why is that?

Alexis: He could've named Sam and Jason and he didn't do it, so that could be an indication that he's changed.

Ric: Well, I hope you're right.

Alexis: I'm going to choose to feel a little bit better about the possibility of setting him free.
