"I'm Not Granting Your Divorce"

Reese: Wait a minute. Do my eyes deceive me, or is Ric Lansing not wearing a business suit?

Ric: It's one of the perks of no longer being the D.A.

Reese: Hmm. Yeah, I should probably dust off my own plainclothes.

Ric: I don't think you need to worry about it. Maybe no news is good news.

Reese: Oh, no. Not when Durant is involved.

Ric: Hmm.

Reese: No, I think he's torturing me. You know, lulling me into a false sense of security right before he either has me fired or forces me to resign. Oh, well.

Ric: Yeah.

Reese: We move on, don't we?

Ric: That's the idea.

Reese: So what are you going to do? You going to go back to Manhattan, work for your old law firm?

Ric: No, I'm -- I'm going to stay in Port Charles.

Reese: Really?

Ric: Yeah, I figured, you know, even though Alexis and I aren't together, I should be around when the baby's born.

Reese: That's great, Ric. Really. I'm -- I'm thinking about opening up my own law practice.

Ric: Really?

Reese: I could use a partner, if you're interested?

Ric: Do you think that's really wise, considering everything that happened between us?

Alexis: Ooh -- awkward moment. But don't let me stop you, go ahead. What exactly happened between the two of you?

Ric: Reese and I put everything on the line when we stood up and defended Sonny in court.

Reese: That's right.

Ric: You know, it has a way of bonding you, oddly.

Reese: Misery loves company.

Ric: Right. I wouldn't get too used to it, though. It's not going to become a trend. We just need time to regroup.

Reese: And to that end, I've got some work to do, so Alexis.

Alexis: Reese.

Ric: Reese.

Ric: It's odd not knowing what to say to you.

Alexis: Well, maybe we'll get used to that -- you know, the awkwardness, the strain. Maybe we'll just even get over it.

Ric: Sit?

Alexis: Ok.

Ric: So how are you?

Alexis: I just -- I just saw Dr. Meadows, the baby's fine.

Ric: Well, I'm glad, but I asked how you were.

Alexis: Great. Have you seen Judge Weiss?

Ric: Not yet.

Alexis: Ok. You know, I thought it would be better if we get the divorce petition signed by a friend. That way, we'd just keep the whole thing out of court. Ah, there he is right now.

Judge Weiss: Hi.

Alexis: How are you?

Judge Weiss: Nice to see you.

Alexis: Nice to see you again.

Judge Weiss: You look great.

Alexis: Thank you.

Judge Weiss: Hi, Ric. How are you?

Ric: All right, all right.

Judge Weiss: Well, I can't say I was happy to hear from you. I would have put money on the two of you making it.

Alexis: Well, yeah, Ric and I --

Ric: Just -- yeah.

Alexis: How about we -- yeah -- grab a chair? We'll have some lunch before we do business.

Judge Weiss: Well, I'd love to have lunch with you, but it'll be purely social. I -- I didn't bring any paperwork with me.

Ric: Well, I thought that was the reason you were meeting.

Judge Weiss: I'm not granting your divorce.

Judge Weiss: You have to understand this is my personal call. You can find another judge, or you can go to the Dominican Republic where they don't ask questions --

Ric: Hmm.

Judge Weiss: But I won't help you dissolve your marriage.

Ric: Why not?

Judge Weiss: Because I'm your friend. I know you, individually and as a couple. I know how much you love each other. And now that you're about to bring a new life into the world, this isn't the time to pull apart.

Alexis: No offense, but is that really your decision to make?

Judge Weiss: Maybe not, but I get to decide whether I participate or not, and I don't want to. Give it some time. Stay with each other through the birth of your baby. Maybe you'll find that the problems that you're experiencing now will lose their significance once you become parents together. I'm going to hold a good thought for you.

Alexis: Well, that was presumptuous, don't you think?

Ric: Oh, he's just being a friend.

Alexis: Well, he's now brought us back to square one.

Ric: Let's just don't stress about the whole thing, ok? We're lawyers. We'll just take the steps.

Alexis: Well, maybe Ted is right. Maybe we're rushing to solve a problem that might resolve itself.

Ric: I think that's called denial, Alexis. I don't know about you, but I've lived in that just about as long as I need to for the rest of my life.

Alexis: Probably a good notion.
