"We
Lasted Longer Than I Thought We Would"
Alexis:
I don't want our marriage to end, either.
Ric:
Then don't let it.
Alexis:
You compromised my daughter's well-being. You compromised her safety.
You chose Sonny over her.
Ric:
I chose Michael.
Alexis:
Having Michael subpoenaed was a terrible thing, but he was able
to manage.
Ric:
Sonny did not kill A.J. Quartermaine. Neither did Carly. It was
Michael.
Alexis:
Michael killed his own father?
Ric:
Yeah, he did it because he thought he was protecting Kristina and
Morgan.
Alexis:
Then he's aware of what he's done?
Ric:
He wasn't at first but, yes.
Alexis:
Oh --
Ric:
I figured it out a while ago. I tried to put together a deal, but
Sonny wouldn't go for it, didn't want Michael labeled a killer.
Alexis:
Oh, my God. So he came to court to confess?
Ric:
I don't know. Maybe he just showed up to tell the jury that his
father was innocent. But if Durant had continued to question him,
he would've admitted the truth.
Alexis:
So you needed to get him off the stand.
Ric:
Yeah. I think that little boy's suffered enough, don't you?
Alexis:
And while I was busy issuing ultimatums --
Ric:
I was trying to save Michael.
Alexis:
Why didn't you just tell me? Why didn't you just tell me what was
really going on
Ric:
I wanted to tell you about Michael. I just wasn't sure whether I
could risk it.
Alexis:
You thought I would use something like that against Sonny? You thought
I would tell John Durant?
Ric:
You tell me.
Alexis:
I would never do anything like that. I would never hurt a little
boy, and I would expect you to understand that about me.
Ric:
Alexis, people get angry; they do things that they would never imagine
themselves doing. Michael had no intention to walk into A.J.'s hospital
room. All he wanted to do was put the pillow over A.J.'s face to
shut him up.
Alexis:
Oh, God.
Ric:
Michael's not a danger to Kristina or anybody else. He's a little
boy who's been traumatized over and over again. A.J.'s death was
not premeditated. It was -- it was an accident. And Sonny was willing
to go to prison to keep that secret; to protect Michael. I couldn't
let that happen, not because I'm -- not because I'm Sonny's brother,
but because he's Michaels father. And that little boy has
lost so much already. I couldn't let him lose Sonny, too.
Alexis:
Why didn't you just tell me? Why didn't you just trust me just a
little bit? I would've helped you.
Ric:
Trusting you now.
Alexis:
Good. Good. So we have a fighting chance?
Alexis:
We have obviously been through some difficult things and we have
both said things and done things that the other one doesn't understand,
and we can either keep pushing against each other or we can try
to push past it. I want us to try to put our lives together somehow
and to understand what we have, and we have a lot. I think that
we should try to create the families that you and I have both always
wanted and needed. And I miss you. I do, I do, and I want you to
come home.
Ric:
I cant.
Alexis:
Please, wait, Ric, please.
Ric:
I thought I could do this; I really did. But now that you've agreed
to it, I realize that it's just not going to work.
Alexis:
Why -- why not?
Ric:
Well, nothing's changed, Alexis. Sonny's still in the picture. You
know, he's going to come after Kristina now more than ever, with
a vengeance.
Alexis:
So we'll handle it. The two of us will handle it.
Ric:
Alexis, I've wasted so many years of my life fighting Sonny. When
I finally had the opportunity to win, I let him go. You're going
to tell me years from now you're not going to blame me for that?
Alexis:
If you had just told me the truth about Michael --
Ric:
Alexis, it wouldn't have mattered.
Alexis:
Yes, it would have.
Ric:
It would have mattered, really?
Alexis:
It would've mattered.
Ric:
When Sonny was right there, we had the opportunity to put him away
safely, lock him away from Kristina, right in front of you.
Alexis:
Where's all this self-righteousness coming from? You act as if you've
never done anything to compromise yourself.
Ric:
No, no, that is not my intention, really. I have been a bastard.
I have used people, I've used you. I almost lost my mind where my
brother is concerned. But I am tired of it all. We just -- we need
to end this now, ok, before Kristina gets caught in the middle of
the whole crossfire; just end it while we still care. Just walk
away. Walk away before we hate each other.
Alexis:
Walk away? You're going to walk away? I'm pregnant. I mean, we're
-- we're married. Doesn't that mean anything?
Ric:
Alexis, don't you see, you can't have it both ways, all right? You
can't tell me that you're going to take our child and you're going
to leave, and then all of a sudden I choose to do it and you're
upset.
Alexis:
I get it, I get it!
Ric:
You can't go to London --
Alexis:
I won't! I agree with you!
Ric:
Look, please, we -- we can't do this. We're going to wind up destroying
each other. Now, look, I put some feelers out to my old firm in
Manhattan. I think that's where I'm going to go.
Alexis:
You're leaving town?
Ric:
John Durants going to make sure that I'm no longer the D.A.
here.
Alexis:
So this is about your job?
Ric:
No, it's not about my job, Alexis. I want to make sure that this
child grows up with a father; I want to make sure that they are
taken care of, but I can't, I can't get in the middle of another
fight of you versus Sonny. I understand. Believe me, I understand
why you can't compromise, I understand why he can't compromise,
but the thing that I cannot understand, Alexis, is why you both
don't see what you are doing to your child.
Alexis:
And you have to understand that that's my battle, it's my fight.
Ric:
Shh, shh, shh. I can't fight anymore.
Alexis:
Ple-- please don't go?
Ric:
We lasted longer than I thought we would.
Reese:
Double bourbon straight up, please?
Ric:
Oh, a woman after my own heart.
Reese:
What are you doing here?
Ric:
You can well imagine. So can I.
Reese:
To getting out, then. Better late than never.
Ric:
In case, losing everything else.
Reese:
Bartender?
Ric:
Oh, why bother, Reese? I don't think there's enough booze in the
whole world to help either one of us.
Reese:
Fuel on the runway. Can you believe it?
Ric:
I heard about it. Whole airport's closed.
Reese:
So much for my great escape to D.C.
Ric:
Yeah, and the puddle-jumper to New York City.
Reese:
Ah, fate.
Ric:
No, fate is for people with a will of their own. We make choices
and we got to learn to live with them.
Reese:
No matter how much it hurts?
Ric:
Alexis and I had a chance today.
Reese:
Same with me and Sonny.
Ric:
I walked away. I walked away from everything that I ever wanted
in my whole life. I walked away from a wife, two children. But on
the upside, you know, I think the vendetta that I have against my
brother is gone because I set him free.
Reese:
So did I in a way.
Ric:
What?
Reese:
You know, I could be with Sonny right this second.
Ric:
Yet here we are, alone.
Reese:
So is this the part where we tell each other how great we are and
how we could do better?
Ric:
No, God, no, don't -- well, you can tell me. I mean, that would
make me feel a lot better. My brother is definitely out of his mind.
Reese:
Is that a compliment? No compliments, please.
Ric:
Sorry.
Reese:
Just don't even go there, because right now all I want is to feel
nothing. Hey fellas you gotta act right now.
Ric:
Yes?
Reese:
I'm thinking about the hangover.
Ric:
I think that means you need another one.
Reese:
Or it means I need to quit while I'm behind.
Ric:
You tell me.
Reese:
One more.
Ric:
All right. Not bad. So D.C., huh?
Reese:
I should've gone back months ago.
Ric:
Hmm.
Reese:
Oh, but good luck in the big, bad city.
Ric:
Oh, I was born and raised in Manhattan. It'll be like going home.
Reese:
Don't you think you'll miss this place?
Ric:
You really are drunk.
Reese:
You know, I got some respect for you, Ric.
Ric:
Thanks. Same here. I mean, respect for you. For me, as well, I mean,
but --
Reese:
I understand.
Ric:
See ya. You ok?
Reese:
No, spinning a little bit.
Ric:
Yeah, well, you know, here, why don't you let me -- I'll walk you.
Reese:
That's ok. I'm fine.
Ric:
It's ok, really. Whoa.
Reese:
You sure you're ok?
Ric:
I'm just absolutely perfect.
Reese:
Let's walk each other up, ok?
Ric:
Wait. Ok. That's good. Slowly.
Reese:
Thank you.
Ric:
Sure you're all right?
Reese:
Yeah, soon as I get off these perilous heels.
Ric:
Oh, ok, I got you, I got you.
Ric
proceeds to CHEAT ON HIS PREGNANT WIFE!
Alexis:
I'm sorry, baby. All I did was try to make sure that we were all safe,
and all I did was make sure that we were alone.
[Knock
on door]
Alexis:
Oh, God, please let it be him, let it be him. Please let it be him,
let it be him, let it be him.
