"If
He Walks Away, I am Letting you Know
Right Now that I am Walking Away with Both Children"
Ric:
Michael, do you know why you're here?
John:
I'll handle this.
Ric:
That won't be necessary, Durant.
John:
Michael, let's do this real fast, because I know there are a lot
of places a bright young man like you would rather be than sitting
in a boring old courtroom, right? All right. Now, I just have one
question for you. Did you see someone murder your biological father?
Justus:
Objection, your honor!
[Judge
pounds gavel]
Sonny:
Michael, you don't have to answer, buddy. You listen to me.
Ric:
Your honor, the prosecution has no further questions for this witness.
Judge:
The witness is free to go. We'll take a 10-minute recess.
Ric:
I think it's going exceedingly well so far, don't you?
Alexis:
No, I dont. I don't think that went well at all. And I wish
that he didn't recant his confession.
Ric:
Try to imagine Kristina up there, and then you tell me how much
this is worth it.
Alexis:
What do you think I'm doing this for? I'm doing it so that she never
gets up on that stand and has to testify against her mobster father
for getting her into trouble. So you save your self-righteous anger,
Ric, because that man belongs behind bars and it is your job as
a prosecutor -- not to mention a stepfather -- to put him there.
Ric:
Durant is waging his own personal vendetta out there. He doesn't
need any help from me.
Alexis:
If he walks away, I am letting you know
right now that I am walking away with both children,
because that is the only way that I will ever be able to keep them
safe.
Bailiff:
All rise for presiding judge Sherry Hunter.
Judge:
You may be seated. Mr. Lansing, Mr. Durant, are you ready to call
your next witness?
Ric:
We are, your honor.
Judge:
Mr. Ward, your closing?
Ric:
Mr. Ward, your honor, I beg the court's indulgence. As co-prosecutor,
I feel compelled to add my own summation.
Judge:
It's fine with me.
Justus:
I have no objections, your honor.
Ric:
You haven't heard much from me during this trial. Mr. Corinthos
and I are half brothers. We're not close. As a matter of fact, up
until three years ago, he didn't even know that I existed. But to
avoid the appearance of conflict, I allowed Mr. Durant to take the
lead on this case. It pains me to say this, but much of what you
have heard about Sonny from Mr. Durant is indeed true. Sonny Corinthos
is perfectly capable of killing almost anyone to protect his children.
No doubt about it. But he didn't kill A.J. Quartermaine.
Sonny:
Ric, Ric, Ric, Ric --
[Judge
pounds gavel]
Judge:
Quiet!
Sonny:
Don't -- don't -- you don't want to do this.
Ric:
The truth has got to come out, Sonny.
Judge:
Order in this court!
[Judge
pounds gavel]
