"I
Want You to Choose Your Family Because
We Love You and We Need You"
[Knock
on door]

Ric:
Hmm. Ok.
Alexis:
Good morning.
Ric:
That almost felt real.
Alexis:
That was real.
Ric:
Here's what's real -- you obviously need something from me. I'm
just not sure that I can give it.
Alexis:
Sonny has always been a factor in our marriage, and I want to find
a way to work around that.
Ric:
Alexis, what if Sonny -- what if the jury should find Sonny innocent?
What if he walks out of that courtroom a free man? Are you going
to want me as much then?
Alexis:
Yes.
Ric:
Even though he's going to have every right to see Kristina?
Alexis:
I love you no matter what he does. I want you to come home, I want
us to be a family, and if you let him go free, you're going to throw
all of that away.
Ric:
How can you promise that you love me in one breath and then threaten
to break our family apart in the next?
Alexis:
And how can you risk everything -- your career, your family, everything
that you have -- for a known criminal?
Ric:
You're asking me to choose between you and Sonny. That's ridiculous,
and it's emotional blackmail.
Alexis:
Which is exactly what he's doing to you.
Ric:
He didn't kill A.J.
Alexis:
No, but he killed other people and he's gotten away with it. What
difference does it make?
Ric:
What --
Alexis:
He's as dangerous as Faith Rosco, and while you are quick to point
out every hormonal mood swing that I have, your brother is pathological
and he is playing on your need to be part of a family.
Ric:
Ok, I can't disagree there.
Alexis:
Stefan played on mine, my need to be part of the Cassadines, and
it was always on his terms, and I hated it, and that's exactly what
Sonny's doing to you. So you're going to throw the case for him
now, and then what's he going to ask of you later, and all you're
going to get is his approval. Is it really that valuable to you?
Ric:
Alexis, I cannot in good conscience put an innocent man in prison.
Alexis:
You're making this way too complicated.
Ric:
Oh, imagine that.
Alexis:
You have a chance to send a career criminal to prison, and I'm asking
you to take it.
Ric:
And if I don't you are going to leave me.
Alexis:
I want you to choose your family because
we love you and we need you. And I don't want you to
throw everything away for a mobster who will use you and then throw
you away.
Ric:
Carly, we need to go over your testimony.
Jason:
No, Carly has nothing to say to you.
Ric:
We're all on the same side here, Jason.
Carly:
Oh, really? Whose side is that?
John:
You know, that is a very good question. That's why I joined the
prosecution team -- to make sure our illustrious D.A. doesn't have
a sudden change of heart. I'm going to help Ric put Sonny in prison,
where he belongs.
Carly:
You can't just hijack another attorney's murder case.
John:
Sure, I can. I'm a federal prosecutor. The D.A. has a glaring conflict
of interest. He won't recuse himself. It only took one phone call.
Ric:
Come on, what are you doing, Durant?
Carly:
Ok, you pulled strings for the chance to have my husband convicted.
John:
Whoa, whoa, stop right there. Your ex-husband, the man who has destroyed
your life, the man who is hurting your children -- whether you want
to admit it or not -- not to mention he has confessed to A.J.'s
murder.
Carly:
The judge threw that out.
John:
Carly -- Carly, this is your chance to get free of the man. I am
begging you. I am not going to let you waste this opportunity.
Carly:
Oh -- are you planning to say that to the jury? Talk about conflict
of interest.
Jason:
Ok, that's it, Carly. Don't say another word. You guys get out.
John:
All right. See you in court. Man, I just love saying that. Mr. Lansing,
don't you like saying that? "See you in court."
Ric:
Nice work.
Alexis:
What's that supposed to mean?
Ric:
John Durant got himself appointed co-prosecutor on Sonny's case.
Alexis:
Hmm. I have no idea how that happened.
Ric:
Maybe you do. You and Durant have been pretty cozy lately.
Alexis:
I've severed all ties with John Durant.
Ric:
Why should I believe you?
Alexis:
Because I believe you when you tell me that you love me, because
I'm pregnant with your child, because you started dating me to get
access to Sonny's child, and I love you anyway, because somewhere
along the line -- and I don't remember exactly when this happened
-- but I took a leap of faith.
Ric:
A leap of faith?
Alexis:
I did. Can you?
Ric:
Are you implying that you can take a leap of faith, but I can't?
That I'm incapable of believing in something that makes no sense
whatsoever?
Alexis:
You tell me.
Ric:
Ok, you say that you don't have any ties with John Durant? Then
I believe you.
Alexis:
Showoff. I miss you so much.
Ric:
I just want this to be over.
Alexis:
So do I.

Ric:
I'm sorry, I got to -- I got to go talk to Reese. How did John Durant
get appointed to this case?
Reese:
He still has a lot of influential friends.
Ric:
I cannot throw the case with him looking over my shoulder.
Reese:
I know, Ric. I know.
Ric:
Look, Durant is a very good prosecutor. Some say he's brilliant.
Look, as much as I don't like the man, he has the capability of
winning this case and getting Sonny convicted on Murder One.
