"As Long as You are in Prison, You Forfeit Your Rights as a Parent"

At Wyndermere

Alexis: I am so, so happy to see you.

Nikolas: Oh, the feeling is mutual.

Alexis: Hmm. I'm glad you're home and this nightmare is over for both you and Emily.

Nikolas: Emily's staying at her parents' for the time being.

Alexis: What?

Nikolas: Yeah.

Alexis: You've been away for a long time. I expected the two of you to be inseparable.

Nikolas: I know. It's just she -- she went through a lot while I was away and just needs some time to adjust.

Alexis: I know how much the two of you love each other, and if there's something going on now, I'm sure it will pass quickly.

Nikolas: Thank you, thank you. I hope so, too.

Alexis: I'm sorry I dragged my feet with the appeal. It --

Nikolas: Alexis, come on. Kristina was kidnapped. I think that takes precedence and, besides, as it turned out, I didn't need the appeal after all, right?

Alexis: That is very generous of you. Thank you.

Nikolas: You're a mother first before you're an aunt and certainly before you're a lawyer. I understand that.

Alexis: I hope you understand this, too. This is for you.

Nikolas: $500,000?

Alexis: I borrowed that from the Cassadine estate. All right, I stole that from the Cassadine estate. I'm paying you back in full. I hope you forgive me.

Nikolas: Yeah, you're -- you're forgiven. You're welcome to any money you need anytime, but why did you need it?

Alexis: I paid a federal prosecutor named John Durant to buy witnesses and manufacture charges against Sonny.

Ric: You know, if the truth doesn't come out, Sonny's going to prison. But that's nothing compared to the sentence that you, Carly, and Sonny are going to be imposing on Michael.

Sonny: Hey, buddy, listen to me, ok? I wish I could tell you exactly what I'm doing, but it's complicated and you may not --

Michael: I killed A.J.! Why should you go to prison for at I did?

Sonny: No, no -- where you going, buddy?

Michael: To tell the police.

Carly: Michael, no --

Sonny: Listen, listen, all right? You're not going to the police.

Michael: But I'm the one who killed A.J.

Sonny: Telling the police is not the answer to anything.

Michael: But shouldn't I be in prison instead of you?

Sonny: No, because it was not your fault. You were scared, you were confused, you didn't know what you were doing.

Michael: Jason told me something. You know how you sprain your wrist? Your hand doesn't work right. That can happen to your mind, and it happened to me.

Carly: Jason's right, sweetheart. You were sick from what A.J. did to you. Now that you're better, it's our job to take care of you.

Sonny: And you don't have to worry about me going to prison, because you know what? No one's going to take you away from me. I'm telling you that right now, but I got to figure out what to do here, ok? And I'm going to need your help here.

Michael: How?

Sonny: Come here. Ok, listen to me. You, Morgan, your mama -- you're going on a trip, all right? And I'm going to need you to take care of your mama, all right, while I settle things here once and for all.

Michael: What's going to happen when you're done?

Sonny: I'm never going to let you out of my sight, buddy.

Jason: Hey, we need to get going.

Sonny: Yeah, ok. Listen to me. You're going to be a good boy, right? And you take care of your mama?

Michael: I love you, dad.

Sonny: I love you, too. All right. Everything's going to work out fine. Go. Go. Go.

Ric: Got to hand it to you, Sonny. I thought this whole noble act was an attempt to protect your son, but I understand your true motive. You want Michael to turn out just like you.

Alexis: Turns out my plan with Durant was unnecessary because Michael saw Carly kill A.J. He was subpoenaed, and Sonny confessed to the murder so that Michael wouldn't have to testify.

Nikolas: Will he go to prison?

Alexis: Maybe for 20 years.

Nikolas: Shouldn't you be happy about that?

Alexis: Oh, there's nothing about this that makes me happy, least of all the fact that Ric is very disappointed in me; he's very angry.

Nikolas: You still love him, though?

Alexis: More than I ever thought possible. But I need to protect my daughter.

Nikolas: You know, I'm probably not the person to be giving marital advice right now, but I know this. I got so caught up in battling Helena that -- that I forgot what was important to me. And I made a mistake and I paid for it. I'd really hate to see that happen to you.

Ric: You know, I couldn't understand why you wouldn't want Michael to go through therapy. Now that the truth is out, why you still insisted on going to prison.

Sonny: What does it matter, Ric? Sending me to Pentonville is only going to do wonders for your career.

Ric: You better think real long and hard about what you are teaching Michael, ok? Like, kill your enemies, lie to the police about it, cover it up, go to prison if necessary, and then -- but never, under any circumstances, trust the authorities. Is that right?

Sonny: Don't tell me how to take care of my son, Ric.

Ric: Look, just because you're a parent doesn't automatically make you right, Sonny. At the very least, you are hurting Michael. You are paving the way for him to follow you into a business, into a way of life that has done nothing but cause you grief and misery! Now, I don't know about you, but I would want my son to have better than that. I wouldn't want him to be continually hurt. Sonny, he's starting to look at himself as a danger to those around him, even the people that he loves. Who does that sound like? He's sounding just like you.

Sonny: Do your job!

Ric: Look --

Sonny: Stop bothering me about Michael!

Ric: Michael -- just admit that Michael killed A.J., all right? I swear to you I will get nothing more than a hearing put on him, a court-appointed therapist. We can -- we can show that he was traumatized, that he --

Sonny: My son will not be branded a killer!

Ric: Michael knows what he did; you have to help him deal with it.

Sonny: He's 9 years old! I got to protect him!

Ric: Then do it! Do it, and stop playing around this time!

Sonny: No! We're doing it my way!

Ric: Forget it, he's not going to budge.

Reese: I have an idea.

Alexis: I don't imagine that you've had much time to think about Kristina, but you should know that she's back in my custody.

Sonny: Didn't waste any time, did you, Alexis?

Alexis: I have a court order to back it up. As long as you are in prison, you forfeit your rights as a parent.

Sonny: What do you want from me? Understanding? Approval? You want me to say you did the right thing by tearing down to the family court and getting yet another piece of paper that forbids me to see my child? How long do you think this one's going to last?

Alexis: Hopefully until she's 18.

Sonny: Must be hell being you, Alexis. You know, you're so possessive of your child you can't function when she's not around. What happens when she's at my place? Are you outside the gate?

[Sonny snaps his fingers]

Sonny: You know what? Actually, you probably were outside the gate the night Michael got hysterical, right? He had the nightmare; he didn't know what was real, what was a dream. Jason found him at the gate. You were probably outside there, right, lurking around, right? Is that right?

Alexis: Don't be absurd.

Sonny: You heard Michael say that Carly killed A.J., so you went straight to Ric and got Michael subpoenaed.

Alexis: I did what I was obligated to do as an officer of the court.

Sonny: Hurting one of my kids is wrong. How do you live with yourself?

Sonny: You had Michael subpoenaed; you were willing to force a 9-year-old little boy to testify against his own mother.

Alexis: I heard Michael say he witnessed a crime.

Sonny: You got Ric to issue the subpoena because you knew that I would confess to the crime to keep Michael off the stand.

Alexis: You know what? If you made a false confession --

Sonny: Michael saved Kristina’s life, and you turn around and you threaten him. Michael was kidnapped, terrorized. At one point he didn't know what was a dream, what was real, and instead of having compassion for a child, your daughter's brother, you turn around and you use his pain. Well, I'll tell you what -- somehow or another, Kristina’s going to live with me.

Alexis: You, my friend, are in no position to make threats to me.

[Door opens]

Alexis: You just confessed to murder.

Ric: There's been a new development. Sonny's not going to prison.

Alexis: You're giving Sonny a way out?

Ric: The judge thought the confession was suspicious. She wants him tried.

Alexis: And you agreed?

Ric: I have my doubts about the confession, as well.

Alexis: So you've waited this long to put your brother behind bars, and you're waiting for this opportunity to throw the case?

Ric: Alexis, maybe you should go home.

Alexis: You know what I think? I think that once this baby is born and you are actually a parent yourself, you will finally understand what a parent will go through to protect their child.

Ric: I know that you love Kristina and you want to protect her, but you don't know everything.

Alexis: You're right, I do love my daughter, and I intend to protect her. But you need to make a choice. You either choose to be a hero to your brother or you choose to take care of your family, because you can't do both. If you throw this case, Ric, I'm filing for divorce.
