"I
Don't Want to Live Without You"
Ric:
Well, congratulations.
Alexis:
That certainly didn't sound sincere.
Ric:
Sonny just confessed to A.J.'s murder.
Alexis:
Really?
Ric:
Yeah, really. Come on, Alexis. You can do better than that, can't
you? I mean, a smile of satisfaction; a shot of victory? After all,
that's what you paid for, isn't it?
Alexis:
What's that?
Ric:
A check for $500,000 signed by John Durant. It's quite a tidy sum
for a civil servant, don't you think? Coincidentally, it's the same
amount of money that was embezzled from the Cassadine accounts.
I cannot believe that you used your family's money in order to bribe
John Durant to buy witnesses to bring down Sonny.
Alexis:
It's not the way it seems, Ric.
Ric:
Yeah, sure. It all makes sense, though. The therapy sessions that
never took place. The lies, the cover-ups -- it's all part of your
plan to neutralize Sonny once and for all, so why don't you just
admit it to me? You're the anonymous donor for Durants slush
fund, aren't you?
Alexis:
I had no choice.
.Alexis:
Did you honestly think that I was going to leave Kristina in Sonny's
care?
Ric:
So you were going to let Durant buy phony witnesses? I mean, you
can actually justify manufacturing evidence --
Alexis:
I didn't manufacture any evidence, and even if I had, so what? He
has lied and cheated his way into sole custody of my daughter.
Ric:
Did you even once think to share this with me, Alexis?
Alexis:
I didn't think there was a big benefit in letting you know this.
Ric:
Right, there never is because I am your husband, after all.
Alexis:
You thought that I should just take my lumps and accept my fate
--
Ric:
Oh --
Alexis:
And live happily ever after and have this be ok with me. It's not
ok. It will never be ok. Everybody knows that Sonny's lifestyle
puts Kristina in constant jeopardy. And despite the fact that she
was kidnapped from his house, despite the fact that he massacred
an entire family in cold blood, despite the fact that even the judge
believes that Sonny is unsafe, and yet somehow this man manages
to get sole custody of this little girl. The man belongs in prison,
and if nobody can make that happen, then I'm going to do whatever
I can to help.
Ric:
Wait a minute. You're the one -- you're the one who told me that
you heard Michael say that -- that Carly killed A.J.
Alexis:
That's right. That's what I heard.
Ric:
Yeah, and you pressured me into subpoenaing Michael for Carlys
trial. You also knew that Sonny would step forward to protect Michael
from having to testify against his own mother.
Alexis:
And it worked.
Ric:
Alexis, you're trying to protect your daughter by tormenting her
own brother.
Alexis:
Oh, Ric, those are your words. You know that I would never do anything
to hurt Michael. I knew it wouldn't go that far.
Ric:
Really? Well, what if it had? Huh? Would you have destroyed Michael
in order to protect Kristina?
Alexis:
Do you honestly think that I would do anything to hurt Michael?
Ric:
Come on, Alexis. You gambled on the outcome.
Alexis:
You're twisting everything around. Durant wanted me to push you
to get a psychological evaluation on Michael, but I refused.
Ric:
Oh. Am I supposed to be impressed by your moral integrity here?
You didn't need the psychological exam here. I had already subpoenaed
Michael because you claim that you heard Michael tell Jason that
he saw his own mother kill A.J.
Alexis:
He did.
Ric:
You pressured me into getting Michael to testify. Did you even have
the slightest flicker of guilt about the pain that was going to
cause that little boy?
Alexis:
Yes, I did. There. Do you feel better now? I tried to back out of
it. I tried to back out because I couldn't believe that Durant would
do something so horrible to his own grandson.
Ric:
What? What? Do what? Force Sonny to confess by manipulating me into
subpoenaing his own child? Whose idea was that, Durants or
yours? My money's on you at this point. Alexis, you'll do anything,
you will use anybody, even a traumatized 9-year-old. Don't you see
that the end for you does justify the means?
Alexis:
What's it that you want me to say to you, Ric? Do you want me to
tell you that I'm flawed? I can do that -- I'm flawed. I am; I'm
flawed. But so are you. And I'm willing to live with that. I'm not
giving up on you. I don't want you to leave me. I want you to stay
with me.
Ric:
Do you?
Alexis:
It's why I came back from London. I don't
want to live without you. I want us to be a family, and
that means more to me than anything else.
Ric:
I love you, Alexis. But you lie so skillfully that I don't know
when you're telling the truth or not. Look, I want to be able to
trust you, but what good is it? There's always another lie.
Alexis:
Is that what you think, because that's really unfair.
Ric:
Well, it goes both ways. Nothing is more important to you than winning,
Alexis. Not me, not Kristina, not -- not our baby. Everything pales
in comparison to this ridiculous fight that you have with Sonny.
Alexis:
This ridiculous fight is an effort to protect my daughter because
she's too little to protect herself, and you -- you know very well
that there wouldn't be an issue here if I thought she was safe.
Ric:
More about protecting Kristina, or is it -- is it more about putting
Sonny in his place?
Alexis:
You really need to start thinking about what you're saying because
you are sounding exactly like your brother.
Ric:
Sonny is Kristinas father.
Alexis:
And that would be just fine with me -- if he weren't a manic-depressive
criminal.
Ric:
Ok, who gets to -- who gets to decide whether he's safe or not,
huh? Who? We're all flawed, Alexis, you just said it. You are, I
am, Sonny is. How perfect does a father have to be? I mean, where?
Is it somewhere in between car bombs and taking trips to the zoo?
How long before you decide that I'm not safe enough to be around
our child?
Alexis:
Oh, man.
Alexis:
Hi. I've come for my daughter.
Carly:
It's a little late, don't you think?
Alexis:
I know what time it is and, no, I don't think it's too late. I don't
want her here any longer than she needs to be.
Carly:
Oh, here we go with the holier-than-thou.
Alexis:
I have a court order, if you'd like to see that.
Carly:
You're loving this, aren't you, Alexis, dragging your sleeping daughter
out of her father's house in the middle of the night just as one
last gotcha to Sonny.
Alexis:
Sonny's parental rights are no longer in effect. It's a little difficult
for him to care for Kristina within the confines of a cell.
Carly:
I talked to Justus. I know you're the one who had Michael subpoenaed.
You claim that Michael saw A.J.'s murder.
Alexis:
I overheard Michael telling Jason that you killed A.J., and it was
my duty to report that to the authorities.
Carly:
Ok, yeah. You unbelievable hypocrite. You had Ric subpoena Michael
as a way of pressuring Sonny into making a false confession.
Alexis:
Carly, if you're worried about Sonny's innocence, then by all means
set him free. You should march down right now to the PCPD and tell
them that you killed A.J.
Alexis:
Ok, sweetie.
Michael:
Why is Kristinas mom taking her away in the middle of the
night?
Carly:
It's ok, honey. Her mommy just missed her so much that she couldn't
wait till tomorrow morning.
Alexis:
Let's put your robe on, darling. There you go.
Michael:
How long will Kristina be gone?
Alexis:
Oh, that's hard to say, honey.
Michael:
Kristina likes the tree house. I told her that we would have a picnic
there tomorrow.
Alexis:
You're a very sweet big brother. You know that? And I'm glad you're
home safe and sound. How about we talk about it later? Is that ok?
Ok. Good night, honey.
Michael:
Night.
Alexis:
Come on, sweetheart.
