"This is Spiraling Out of Control"

Alexis: It's your job. You have to prosecute Carly.

Ric: Oh, yeah. It's my job to get a conviction on my former sister-in-law who I held hostage while she was pregnant. I'm too close to all this, Alexis. I got to get out now.

John's voice: Your husband must be the one to prosecute Carly. Are we clear?

Alexis: Ric, you have to do it. You have to prosecute her. You can't just walk away.

Ric: Alexis, whoever prosecutes this case is going to have to force Michael to testify he saw his mother commit murder. I can't do that. The kid is my nephew.

Alexis: Ric, if you back out now, you could make it worse for him. He'll be at the mercy of some ambitious A.D.A. who wants to make a name for himself. He could terrorize Michael up there and he'll never get over it.

Ric: Then I should've never issued the subpoena.

Alexis: There are different ways to get testimony. Whereas someone may go on the attack, you would be supportive.

Ric: Oh, no.

Alexis: You can make sure that he understands that he has nothing to feel guilty about, and more than that, you can make sure that he feels safe up there.

Ric: I hate everything about this.

Alexis: I hate everything about it, too, but what happened, happened. Michael saw Carly kill A.J. and, child or not, it is your job to find some way to get that testimony from him in a safe way.

Ric: That's why it's called conflict of interest, Alexis, ok? It's a little hard for me to do my duty when I'm worried about devastating my brother's son.

Alexis: I understand that. I wish to God I never even heard Michael’s admission. More than that, I wish he didn't have to live through the horror of seeing his mother kill a man, but he did. This happened and it is your job to protect him; to enable him to give his testimony in a safe way.

Ric: You're right. You're right, I'm the only who can put Michael on the stand.

Justus: Have the paperwork delivered to my office. I'll be there when I can.

Ric: These are the terms of the plea bargain we're offering Carly. If she were my client, I'd advise her to accept them.

Justus: Not interested.

Ric: You want to see Carly go to jail, then, huh?

Justus: You have to convict her first. By the way, who told you Michael Corinthos was a witness?

Ric: A reliable source.

Justus: I can get a court order forcing you to disclose the name.

Ric: It was Alexis.

Justus: You might want to warn Alexis to expect a subpoena. I'm going to put her on the stand and I'm going to destroy what's left of her reputation.

Ric: You might want to look over your own reputation there, counselor, all right?

Justus: Alexis has strong reason to lie. She wants Michael to suffer because she lost custody of Kristina.

Ric: That's absurd.

Justus: Oh, is it? I think the judge and the jury will see it my way. I can make a compelling argument that Alexis perjured herself when she named Michael Corinthos as a witness. This is going to get ugly, counselor. You withdraw Michael’s subpoena. It's the only way you can save your wife.

John: Look, I want you to pressure Ric to order a psychiatric exam on Michael.

Alexis: No. No. I'm not doing it. He's already been through too much.

John: Sonny will find out about it, he'll try to stop it, find out that he can’t. That is when he will confess to killing A.J. to protect Michael.

Alexis: You're using an already traumatized 9-year-old little boy.

John: Look, Michael is my grandson. I'm not going to do anything to hurt him. But once Sonny confesses, he goes to prison; both of our daughters will be free and clear of him forever. Now, I assume this is something that you still want.

Alexis: More than anything.

Alexis: I'm not going to pressure Ric anymore to put any more pressure on Michael. This whole thing makes me sick. You --

John: You're up to your hips in alligators, counselor. You stole money from your family to grease the wheels of Sonny's demise. Stabs of conscience are a waste of both of our time.

Alexis: He's an innocent little boy. He's your grandson, for God's sake.

John: Hey, it's not my first choice, but it's what we have to work with. And yes, I will use my grandson, and I will use my daughter if it frees them of that sadistic monster.

Alexis: Find another way.

John: The train's already left the station, Alexis. We both agreed to put enough heat on Carly to pressure Sonny to step forward and save her.

Alexis: Not at Michael’s expense. I'm done. I'm not doing it.

Ric: I promise you, Justus, attacking Alexis is not going to help Carly in the eyes of a jury.

Justus: A woman filled with such hostility and anger, it undermines her credibility.

Ric: All right, threaten us all you want. The fact is that Alexis heard Michael say that he saw his own mother murder A.J. He is an eyewitness. I have to call him to testify.

Justus: I'll get a psychiatrist up there who will prove that the boy is too traumatized from his kidnapping to know what he saw. And we'll pray in the process that you don't destroy him.

Ric: You want to help your client, huh? Then you bring me a suspect with as much evidence as I have against Carly. Because right now, that's the only thing that's going to help her.

John: I misread you, Alexis. I thought you wanted Corinthos put away.

Alexis: This whole thing is over the top.

John: Oh, I don't know. Robbing your nephew while he sits in prison? Now, that's pretty low.

Alexis: This is spiraling out of control. Everyone here cares about Michael, and I'm not doing this to him.

John: Yeah, well, it's out of your hands now. Because of Michael, Carly is under intense pressure. Sonny will have to step in. I didn't have to pay off a single witness. And you just saved a bundle.

Alexis: Fine, then you don't need me anymore.

John: You're right. You did your part when you got Ric to subpoena Michael. No one had to bend the law. You and I can walk away from this thing as squeaky clean as we stepped into it. Money's still in the bank, and I can get back to you with no one being the wiser.

Ric: I gave your client a way out. If she doesn't want to plead down, that's not my problem.

Justus: Ric, explain to me again how you've managed to stay out of prison for the things you've done.

Ric: Huh. You think I'm bad? Consider the guy I replaced. Look, Justus, I took this job for one reason.

Justus: Don't -- don't say absolution. I'd have to laugh --

Ric: Ok, you know what? Why don't we just cut through all of this? Like it or not, I am the D.A. A man has been murdered. The primary suspect happens to be my brother's ex-wife, ok? I didn't go looking for that, I didn't manufacture that. The case fell into my lap, and I am required to prosecute.

Justus: Yeah, but try not to enjoy it so much.

Ric: No, I don't enjoy it. You and I both know, unless something drastic changes, Carly’s going to go to prison for the rest of her life.
