"I'm Not Running Scared Anymore"

Jason: Sonny and I had no idea Alcazar was pulling strings to get Carly's bail set.

Ric: Oh, you expect me to believe that?

Jason: Of course I do. It's true.

Ric: Oh, you expect me to believe that?

Jason: Of course I do. It's true.

Ric: Oh, I forgot, yes, you who never lies. What's going to happen now, Jason, huh? Suddenly Carly's going to disappear out of nowhere while the three of you manage to get her out of the country?

Jason: There is no three of us. Alcazar did what he did on his own. There's no affiliation there. You know that, Ric.

Ric: Well, then maybe you should have done a little bit better job of controlling him, because all that's come out of this right now is that I'm convinced more than ever that Carly is guilty.

Jason: See, that's overreacting, even for you, probably because you have your own suspect to protect -- your wife, Alexis?

John: Well, well, well. I should have known. You're the one who's paying me to destroy Sonny, hmm? Well, it makes perfect sense. You want Sonny out of the picture as much as I do for the very same reasons. We both have a daughter we want as far away from him as possible.

Alexis: (calm as hell) Obviously, there's no point in denying it. You've caught me dead to rights. So what happens now? You going to tell Sonny? Somehow I doubt that. You could, however, turn me in. Maybe you should. As you can see, I'm completely out of control.

John: I got a better idea. How about I help you finish what you started?

Ric: Alexis wasn't even in the country when A.J. was killed. Besides, she had no motive.

Jason: No motive? What are you talking about? A.J. paid Faith to kidnap Kristina. Everybody knows how Alexis is when it comes to her daughter. Luis Alcazar --

Ric: Oh --

Jason: He wasn't even a direct threat, but Alexis' scary mind perceived him to be, so she stuck him with a steak knife and threw him over a 14th-floor balcony, Ric.

Ric: Ok, why don't you just save yourself a lot of grief and admit it? Carly is guilty. Her D.N.A. was found all over the pillow that killed A.J. She threatened A.J. in front of a witness, who later saw her leave A.J.'s room right after he was found there dead.

Jason: What, everybody in town probably threatene A.J. that night, including you.

Ric: Ok, you know what? Fine. This is pointless. You wanted to get Carly out of jail? Fine, you did that. But freedom is relative. I'm going to make sure that our men tail her every day and every night. She's not going to be able to make a move without us knowing about it. You take her to the airport, you take her to any boat in any harbor, any bus terminal, we're going to be there. Meanwhile, I am going to create the airtight case of my life, because I believe that Carly committed this crime.

Sam: Or you want reveng against Sonny for taking Kristina, right?

Ric: No, because a man was murdered. I don't care if he's pond scum, all right? Even A.J. Quartermaine deserves to have his killer brought to justice. That is my job, and I am going to make sure that Carly pays.

Alexis: Why should I trust you?

John: Oh, the oldest reason in the book. You're where my bread is buttered. Not that I've spent any of that money. But I have to say it's an impressive sum of money. What have you been doing, siphoning off the family funds?

Alexis: I'm not proud of that.

John: Hey, no judgment here. We do what we got to do.

[Footsteps]

John: We both have the common goal of putting sonny behind bars. And maybe we can achieve that if we work together. I'm all over this.

Alexis: If anyone had ever told me that I would form an unholy alliance with you --

John: Hey, once you get to know me, I'm not so bad. Besides, you could do worse. I'm not afraid of Sonny.

Alexis: That is an asset. However, in a perfect world, he would have killed A.J. See, that'd be nice and clean.

John: That doesn't mean that he won't confess.

Alexis: Why would he?

John: Well, the idea of Carly spending her life behind bars or the death penalty?

Alexis: Yeah, but they're not married anymore, she's moved on, and if Agent Reese fawning all over Sonny is any indication, so has he.

John: Yeah, well, if only that were true, to finally have my daughter free and clear from that piece of -- that's wishful thinking, because even if Carly and Sonny are with somebody else, they're going to be looking out for each other's backs.

Alexis: You're quite a gambler.

John: Now, why do you say that?

Alexis: What if you're wrong and Sonny decides to let the chips fall where they may regarding Carly? You push for a conviction of your daughter, you might just actually succeed.

Alexis gets off the elevator and approaches Sam and Jason.

Alexis: Have either of you seen Ric?

Jason: He left.

Alexis: Thanks.

She begins to leave, but Jason follows her.

Jason: You know, it's funny. We were just talking about you.

Alexis: Is that so?

Jason: Yeah -- about the possibility that you killed A.J.

Alexis: That was direct. Absurd, but direct. I believe I was out of town, and I don't think I had a motive.

Jason: Well, that's funny, because that's exactly what your husband said -- except you do, because if Sonny is convicted for A.J.'s murder, you won't have to worry about him taking Kristina away again.

Alexis: A.J. Quartermaine was a despicable human being who used children, including mine, to wage war against pretty much everybody in sight. I think he got exactly what he deserved, but it didn't happen at my hand.

Jason: Well, I didn't expect you to admit it.

Alexis: Your desperation to protect Carly is clouding your otherwise logical mind, Jason.

Alexis: If I wanted to frame Sonny for killing A.J., one would think that I would find some evidence to connect him to the crime first. (She taps her temple with her finger) If Carly is convicted, God only knows how many more people you all will massacre. I am confident that he will do something reckless and stupid and I will get my daughter back. It's nice to see you, Sam.

She leaves.

Ric: John, you might want to keep yourself available for questioning. I'm putting together a case against your daughter.

John: I've already told you everything I know. And, you know, Ric, your time might be better spent going after the real killer before they so thoroughly cover their tracks you never get a conviction. Carly is ient.

Ric: Oh, right, because you, her devoted, "always trying to score points" father saw her on the fourth floor at the time A.J. Was murdered. John, how long do you think that that alibi is going to hold up under scrutiny?

John: Ok, forget the alibi. You don't have evidence.

Ric: Why? Because I don't have an eyewitness yet? I'm confident in what I have, and I'm going forward with it.

John: Ric, wait.

Ric: Something you want to tell me?

John: Yeah. Just a word of precaution, Ric. You are in a very precarious position. Up until a couple of days ago, you were the prime suspect in A.J.'s murder.

Ric: Your point?

John: Without a solid case against Carly -- which you don't have and you will not get -- you're going to look like a fool in court. Now, maybe you don't care about things like that. I would.

Alexis is in the background.

Ric: Hmm. No. Appearances matter to you. I understand that. So here's a word of caution back, John -- it wouldn't be too wise for you to use that bribe money that you've been taking in order to buy a witness to put A.J.'s murder at Sonny's doorstep instead of your daughter's. And by the way, have you had any luck finding out exactly who's been paying you? Hmm?

John: Nope.

Ric: No? Well, that stall is not going to work for long, so why don't you find out?

John's phone rings.

John: Excuse me. Yeah.

Alexis: What was all that about?

Ric: Oh, nothing. Reese was wearing a wire, and she got Durant to admit that he'd been taking money to falsify evidence against Sonny. Any crime will do. But now we're onto him. His career is on the line if he doesn't tell us who's been paying him.

Alexis: Is that really a priority right now?

Ric: No. I need to put together a murder case. You're right.

Alexis: I know we've already touched on this, but I want to say it just one more time. I don't want you making any deals with Sonny to go easy on Carly in exchange for him being gracious with Kristina. It won't happen. No more compromise with him. No more negotiating with him. I'm not running scared anymore. The worst has already happened, and I'm still standing, so if you can prove that Carly killed A.J., you do what you need to do and you go after her with everything you've got.

Ric: Well, well, look at this. I have men watching Sonny's house, and surprise, surprise. I get a call that my own wife is stalking the gate.

Alexis goes into Ric's jacket with her hands. Um.....

Ric: What are you doing?

Alexis: I'm trying to show you that I've been calling you.

She holds up his cell phone in front of his face.

Ric: What is this, Alexis --

Alexis: Stop talking. There's a witness that saw Carly kill A.J.
