"You
Think I Kidnapped My Own Daughter?"
Alexis:
You think I kidnapped
my own daughter?
Ric:
You've done it before.
Alexis:
And that's why you're not calling the police?
Ric:
Look, I know how you feel about sharing Kristina with Sonny. Now,
if she were kidnapped under his supervision, you would have the
perfect opportunity to file for sole custody.
Alexis:
Do you realize that every moment you waste the worse the chances
of getting her back? I want the police here. Why do I want them
here if I kidnapped her?
Ric:
I know you, Alexis. I know how determined you are. I know -- I know
what you're willing to do in order to protect Kristina. Maybe you
are willing to take that risk.
Sonny:
Why didn't you tell me Sam lied about going to Miami? Are you trying
to protect her?
Jason:
I didn't tell you because I didn't think it mattered.
Sonny:
What are you trying to hide? Did Sam kidnap Kristina?
Woman:
I'm impressed. It's hard to access this much money.
Sam:
Yeah, well, the man I got it from owed me, and he can afford to
pay.
Michael:
Do you think Kristina was scared?
Carly:
Oh, I hope not, sweetie. I think that Kristina may be just a little
too young to know what's going on.
Michael:
I never should have left her in that room while she was sleeping.
Carly:
Oh, Michael. You are the best big brother that anyone could hope
for, ok? But it is not your job to keep Kristina safe.
Michael:
Do you think we'll ever get her back?
Carly:
Come here. Yes, I do, ok? And your dad is going to -- we're going
to bring her home soon.
Ric:
Alexis, it's just the two of us, all right? Please, just tell me
the truth so I can find a way to protect you.
Alexis:
I don't need you to protect me. I need you to --
Ric:
Why would you bring Kristina to Sonny's in the middle of the week?
Alexis:
Why did you kidnap Carly when she was pregnant? Just because you
think like a criminal, you think we all think like criminals?
Ric:
Ok, all right, there's my point right there. I wasn't thinking rationally,
all right? I was out of my mind, but I was still capable of planning
a kidnapping and finding a way to cover my tracks. See, that's how
I know it can be done.
Alexis:
So you're out of your mind, so we're all out of our minds?
Ric:
I am trying to protect you! Now, nothing is irrevocable at this
point.
Alexis:
What's irrevocable is my daughter's been kidnapped. Why are we having
this conversation?
Ric:
We're having this conversation because it's too perfect to be a
coincidence, all right? Kristina is kidnapped from Sonny while under
his supervision. You are mysteriously absent. You are not -- repeat
-- are not at the apartment with me. You're not at the law library
like you said you were going to be. You are supposedly shopping
for lingerie. Ok, did anybody see you?
Alexis:
Salesgirl.
Ric:
Do you remember her name?
Alexis:
My daughter has been kidnapped.
Ric:
I know that and, Alexis, we are wasting valuable time here. Please,
just tell me the truth. Do you know where Kristina is? Did you put
her someplace safe, knowing that Sonny would be blamed and then
you would get sole custody after she was returned?
Alexis:
I hate doing this. You know very well I would never do like that
to my daughter.
Ric:
Alexis, it's happened twice before. Please, the stakes are much
higher at this point.
Alexis:
I'm not wasting another minute defending myself to someone who should
already believe me. Do you have any evidence that I did what you're
suggesting?
Ric:
You had motive, you had means, and you had the opportunity, all
right? We weren't living together. You had all the time in the world
to set this thing up.
Alexis:
That's hardly evidence.
Ric:
Alexis, please, I know you. Trust me enough to tell me the truth.
Alexis:
You want to help me? Find my daughter!
Jason:
Sam didn't take Kristina.
Sonny:
How do you know?
Jason:
Because she wouldnt.
Sonny:
She lied about going to Miami.
Jason:
Yeah, she lied to get away from me.
Sonny:
Right.
Jason:
I hurt her, she's mad, she feels betrayed, I kept showing up trying
to fix things, she asked me to back off, I didn't, she lied to make
me stop.
Sonny:
Do you hear what you just said? She feels angry and betrayed. What
does that say to you?
Jason:
She's angry at me, Sonny, not you. Come on, she's got no motive
to take Kristina. This is ridiculous.
Sonny:
How about Kristinas life because of Sams baby? She ever
talk to you about that?
Jason:
Yes, she does.
Sonny:
Mm-hmm, show interest in Kristina? She used to visit her at the
hospital.
Jason:
Yeah, absolutely. She cares about Kristina. Why the hell would she
kidnap her if she cares about Kristina?
Sonny:
Postpartum depression. You ever hear about -- you know what that
is?
Jason:
Yeah, I know what that is, Sonny.
Sonny:
Right. Right. Carly had it after Michael was born.
Jason:
Right.
Sonny:
How did she act?
Jason:
Not like Sam. She couldn't even hold Michael. She couldn't even
touch Michael. Sam is missing her baby. She's grieving. She's not
crazy.
Sonny:
You're not offering much in the way of, you know, proof.
Jason:
Proof? What, you have proof that Sam did it besides her saying that
she was going to Miami and she's not going to Miami? Whoever really
kidnapped Kristina did it probably to get back at you, Sonny.
Sonny:
Oh, so now you're saying that, you know, I endangered my own child?
Jason:
No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that Kristina was taken the
exact same time that you had to shut the power down because the
state-of-the-art security system doesn't work, and she was taken
from your bedroom. What are the odds that Kristina would even be
in your bedroom, and how would Sam even know that? She has been
here two times. One time before the place was furnished, I brought
here, then she came here to see you that one time. Did you take
her around the house? Was she outside of this room at all?
Sonny:
No.
Jason:
Well, then she doesn't know the layout of the house very well. Besides,
if she was going to take Kristina, why would she put the ladder
at your window and not Kristinas window?
Sonny:
You would say anything to defend her. That's what's going on here.
Jason:
Sonny -- I mean, we can waste all day arguing whether Sam did it
or didn't do it. We need to look at the people who've been giving
us trouble lately. The people in the Caribbean, at the casinos,
somebody here in Port Charles. You know what this is? This is one
of three things. This is revenge, it's a power grab, or it's ransom.
Sonny:
So you won't even consider the possibility that Sam, a known thief
who's grieving for two children, lied about where she was, could
have done it? You know what that says to me? You're thinking with
your heart. But my child is missing, and I need to be able to trust
your judgment. And right now I cant.
[Siren]
Sonny:
When Lily died, she was carrying my child. I was out of my mind
with grief. That's what's going on with Sam maybe. You know, she
lost so much, she doesn't know what she's doing.
Jason:
Grief does not change who you are. Sam would never kidnap a child.
Sonny:
I've done things in my life I never thought I would do. Situations
come up. You convince yourself, right, that it's your only choice.
Jason:
I know that you've been through a lot, but could anything drive
you to kidnapping somebody's daughter?
Sonny:
No. No. But I've never carried a child for nine months only to have
that child die before I get a chance to see her. In Sams head,
her baby, our baby, died to keep Kristina alive.
Jason:
Sonny, she's past that. She understands what really happened.
Sonny:
That's what she says, Jason! But maybe she feels some kind of connection
with Kristina. That's probably why she kidnapped her. All I'm saying
is you have to find her.
Jason:
And all I'm saying is I'm going to be wasting valuable time looking
for her.
Sonny:
So you're saying that there's not a chance I could be right?
[Knock
on door]
Stan:
Guys?
Jason:
What? What's going on?
Stan:
The entire security system has been shadow-wired.
Jason:
Are there mikes out here?
Stan:
No, no, no, no, no.
Sonny:
Ok, what does that mean, "shadow-wired"?
Jason:
That means there's another cable running parallel to the ones with
the system. It's probably sending sound and pictures from a receiver
somewhere.
Sonny:
Are you telling me there's hidden cameras in this house?
Stan:
Whoever laid that wire knows everything you do and say.
Jason:
See? Sonny, this system's too elaborate. Sam could never have done
this. She is not the kidnapper.
Sonny:
All right, whoever it is, they're watching me. We could use this
to our advantage.
Ric:
Alexis --
Alexis:
Leave me alone.
Ric:
No, please, just let me help you.
Alexis:
By accusing me of kidnapping my own daughter?
Ric:
Where are you going?
Alexis:
I'd hate to see what you were going to do if you were working against
me. I'm going to go kidnap my next victim, right?
Ric:
Stop it, stop it, stop it. Listen to me. I want to discuss this
in a rational matter.
Alexis:
You know what I need from you? I need you to tell me that everything's
going to be ok, but you can't because you're too busy making me
a prime suspect.
Ric:
Alexis, I'm not the only one who's going to put this together, huh?
The longer it goes on, the more suspicious you're going to look.
Alexis:
Scaring me into a confession isn't going to work because I didn't
do anything wrong!
Ric:
If I'm wrong -- listen to me -- if I'm wrong, I'm sorry. But if
I'm right, you better stop fighting me and let me find a way to
protect you. Otherwise, you're going to lose Kristina for good.
Man:
Kristina just went down for a nap.
Sonny:
You're good. You wired my house. I never suspected it. Oh, you haven't
contacted me, so I'm going to make the first move. I'm going to
give you $5 million, any denominations, any place you want it delivered.
All you got to do is return Kristina, my daughter, unharmed. I won't
call the police. I won't come after you when it's done. You know
where to reach me. I'll be waiting for your call. Don't take too
long.
Sonny:
I know you heard me. You've heard everything I've said since I moved
in. I'm giving you a chance to walk away rich and alive. Call me.
End this. $5 million in exchange for the safe return of my daughter.
I'm through playing games.
Jason:
Sonny, Sonny, don't, don't, don't -- Sonny, don't, don't --
Sonny:
Tell Stan to find the rest of the cameras, rip them all out. If
the phone rings, answer it.
Jason:
Ok.
Sonny:
I'm too angry to think. If I hear that bastard's voice, I'm going
to have to tell the truth. I will find out who they are, cut their
hearts out while they watch.
Ned:
I'm here to pick up my daughter.
Ric:
Max, it's ok. I'll explain everything to Mr. Ashton. Thanks.
Ned:
What's going on? Brook Lynn called and said she was here, for me
to come and pick her up.
Ric:
Kristina's been kidnapped.
Ned:
Oh my God. Oh. Well, do the police have any leads?
Ric:
The police haven't been brought in yet.
Ned:
Well, why not?
Ric:
Sonny wants to resolve this on his own.
Ned:
Sonny is a paranoid control freak. You know that. Now, you're the
D.A., take charge. You have to call the police.
Ric:
Look, I understand. Just under the circumstances --
Ned:
Is Brook Lynn upstairs?
Ric:
Yes, she is.
Ned:
All right, I'm taking her out of here, we're going down to the police
station, and she's going to tell them everything that went on here.
Ric:
Ned, you can't do that. Ned --
Ned:
Look, I happen to love Kristina, all right? I think of that little
girl as if she were my own, all right? I'm not going to wait for
Sonny and his thugs to come up with a lead.
Ric:
But listen to me. I gave Sonny a chance to resolve this whole matter.
If can't do that, then I'll call Mac Scorpio myself.
Ned:
No, no, no --
Ric:
Ned, wait!
Jason:
Sonny, did they call? Ok, Stan found all the cameras, disconnected
them.
Sonny:
How many?
Jason:
Half a dozen.
Sonny:
Maybe it wasn't the kidnapper on the other side of that camera.
Jason:
Well, Sonny, who else would bug the house? They were watching and
waiting for the best time to take Kristina.
Sonny:
Not necessarily. It could be one of my enemies who wired the house
to get information, which means the kidnapper did not hear the ransom
--
Jason:
Look, I know where you're going with this, ok, and you're wrong.
You're wrong. Sam did not take Kristina.
Alexis:
Yes. I think she did.
Man:
Look who I got. Do you want to play with the sheep?
Ric:
Ned, please wait, wait --
Ned:
Get your hands off of me!
Ric:
You need to try to calm down.
Ned:
The police need to know what's going on. So if the district attorney
is too busy protecting his older brother, then I guess it's up to
me.
Ric:
It's not my brother that I'm protecting.
Ned:
Well, it's not Brook Lynn, because she had nothing -- oh. You and
Alexis are in on this together, aren't you?
Ned:
Alexis kidnapped Kristina when she was an infant. So why wouldn't
she do it again to protect her from Sonny?
Ric:
Look, Ned, I don't know for sure that Alexis is responsible for
taking Kristina, but if you go to the police and they prove that
she did, she's going to lose her forever.
Ned:
Allow me to share with you the benefit of my experience with Alexis.
Trying to save her from herself is not the basis for a successful
relationship.
Ric:
Ned, you loved her once. I'm begging you; do not go to the police
until I am sure that Alexis is innocent.
Alexis:
Sam asked me if she could spend more time with Kristina. She said
it would make her feel closer to her own daughter. I expressed that
I was uncomfortable with that, and she backed off and got defensive.
Jason:
Well, that doesn't prove anything, Alexis.
Alexis:
I think that she may have taken her. Now, if she did, you need to
go find her and bring her back.
[Phone
rings]
Sonny:
Pick it up.
Jason:
Hello.
Sam:
Jason, it's Sam.
Jason:
What's going on?
Sam:
Yeah, look, I am in serious trouble.
