"She's Blackmailing You, Isn't She?"

At Carly's house. Jax is there when Alexis arrives.

Alexis: Sorry I'm late. I had to settle Kristina in with the nanny. Thanks for coming.

Carly: Ok, this is a waste of time, Alexis. What could Jax possibly have to say about Sonny's fitness as a parent?

Jax: Look, I know firsthand that he's abusive to women.

Carly: Forget it, Jax. There is no way I am going to let you air your grudge against Sonny in my hearing.

Jax: No, no, no, this isn't about some vendetta.

Carly: Oh, like hell it isn't.

Jax: I'm merely offering to tell the truth, ok?

Carly: Ok, the truth is that you will use any excuse you can to string Sonny along and stick it to him.

Jax: Look, Sonny drove Brenda to a nervous breakdown. He verbally abused her. He repeatedly exposed her to danger. He isolated and belittled her. Just as he's done to you, obviously.

Carly: Sonny never abused Brenda any more than he abused me. Brenda is a spoiled, self-centered attention junkie who used to play the victim to keep you dangling on a string, and you hate Sonny for it, and that is what your offer to testify is really about.

Alexis: That's enough, Carly.

Carly: There is no way I am going to let Jax take the stand!

Jax: Oh, you know what, I'm not going to argue with you about this, ok? Good luck hanging on to your children. You're going to need it.

Carly: Thank you. Great. (Jax leaves) Sonny gets shot at on a regular basis. He has had three warehouses either explode or burned. What is so difficult about proving that his life is too dangerous to have the boys live with him?

Alexis: It's not that difficult.

Carly: Ok, then do it and stop with all this other garbage.

Alexis: Sonny's lifestyle, dangerous as it is, doesn't necessarily guarantee you custody of your children, which is what I thought the goal was in the first place. Unless maybe this is some elaborate game you're playing to get your husband back.

Alexis: What is it with you two this time, anyway? Is it that you're just angry at each other, or are you just doing this for the fun of it?

Carly: I'm paying you to get my boys back, not psychoanalyze me.

Alexis: Some people are capable of compromising. You two have a feeding frenzy of retaliation and one-upmanship. I don't know, maybe you're bored. Maybe you aren't capable of being happy. I just don't know. And I just don't care.

Carly: Well, you'd better start caring, because if you tank this case, I will --

Alexis: I know, you'll tell. You know what, the sad thing is, despite the fact that you're blackmailing me, I actually care about the well-being of your children, maybe more than you do. You know what -- I'm tired of this, I'm tired of you. I'm resigning as of this moment.

Carly: Ok, you do that, Alexis, and I am going to go straight to Sonny and I'm going to tell him that he is Kristina's father.

Alexis: No, you won't.

Carly: Yeah.

Alexis: You won't tell because you want him back. There. I just called your bluff.

Carly: Why shouldn't I tell Sonny about Kristina?

Alexis: Are you comfortable with him knowing that he has a child with another woman?

Carly: Oh, it's a perfect distraction. Sonny and his lawyers could get to work on taking your child and leave mine alone. You know what -- in fact, I think I will tell him right now.

Alexis: You would actually do it, wouldn't you?

Carly: In a heartbeat. Unless you get me sole custody of Michael and Morgan.

Alexis: Then stop working against me. You're tying my hands and making it impossible for me to win this case.

Carly: No, I am asking you to be creative, and since that is clearly beyond you, I will help you. Use Sam. She is a con artist. She has made a career out of petty crime and she's sleeping with Sonny.

Alexis: You want my legal advice, I'm giving it to you -- that's not enough.

Carly: Oh, well, you make it enough, Alexis. I was over at the house and she was there, Michael was upstairs. Sonny is exposing my children to that little tramp.

There's a knock at the door -- it's Jason.

Alexis: You want to do your friend a favor? Why don't you advise her that if she wants to get her husband back, dragging him through family court and her children is not the right way.

At the courthouse.

Alexis: I'm sorry that you wasted a trip this morning.

Jax: No, you seemed even more annoyed than I was.

Alexis: Because she's insane, because Carly's the most insane client that I've ever had. She's unstable, she's erratic, she's obnoxious --

Jax: Yeah, which brings me to the next question -- why did you take her case?

Alexis: Because she saved my life in the fire and I owe it to her and, as a mother, I support her right to raise her children.

Jax: Wow, that sounds plausible. I might actually believe that if I hadn't seen the way she treated you this morning.

Alexis: You were her business partner. You know how she is.

Jax: Carly knows she's in control. You know, she seems quite certain that you won't quit no matter what she says or does.

Alexis: You know, it's part of the hazards of my job. People take out their anger on me all the time.

Jax: She's blackmailing you, isn't she?

Jax: Carly cannot be trusted. If you give in to her blackmail, you will be in more trouble.

Alexis: I'll handle it.

Jax: Can you handle Sonny, too? Because if he thinks he's going to lose his children, he will come after you and he will uncover whatever it is you're trying to hide. The man is ruthless. He has no conscience.

Alexis: Which is why he shouldn't be left alone with any children. Look, there's no love lost between Carly and I, but I need to do what I need to do to win this case, and I will win.

Jax: Well, whatever Sonny and Carly throw at you, you know you have my full support.
