"He Needs You. Go After Him"
kye
and Jax are on the Quartermaine terrace.
Skye:
Jax, I can't take it anymore. I have to tell Ned that Alexis has
Kristina.
Jax:
Skye, you can't
Skye:
He's her father. You saw how frantic he is. I'm sure there are a
thousand possibilities going through his brain right now, each one
worse than the last.
Jax:
Alexis will bring Kristina back. She just needs a little more time.
Skye:
Listen to me. A.J. and I are the one that took that baby from this
house. If anything happens to that child, it's going to be all my
fault.
Jax:
Nothing is going to happen to that child. Alexis loves her daughter.
Skye:
Oh, is that why she's probably on a plane at this very moment ready
to leave the country?
Jax:
Look, I know Alexis. Ok? She'll do the right thing.
Skye:
Unlike me?
Jax:
You got to trust me on this. Just sit tight, don't say a word.
Cameron
stands in front of the fireplace at the cabin and looks up at the
mounted deer head.
His
thoughts flash back to Pete's death.
Zander:
Dad, I don't know what happened.
Cameron:
Well, you killed him. You killed your own brother!
His
daydream is interrupted by Alexis.
Alexis:
Cameron?
(The
scenes fades into Zander standing alone outside of Kelly's.)
He's fighting back tears when Emily walks up to him.
Emily:
Zander, what's the matter?
Zander:
It's nothing.
Emily:
Well, maybe you'll feel better if you talk about it.
Zander:
Yeah, not this.
Emily:
What is it?
Zander:
I tried to tell you before you left, but I couldn't.
Emily:
Nothing that you can say will change the way I feel about you.
Zander:
Five years ago today, I killed my brother.
Zander:
I heard my father yelling. And I ran up and knelt beside him. He
was looking at Pete. It didn't register for a minute. You know what?
I expected Pete to stand up, to look to me, to talk to me, to --
to laugh like he'd been doing because he was the happiest he'd ever
been in his life. But he just laid there. And my father had his
hand on his chest. He was trying to keep the blood from coming out.
And I could smell the gunpowder, and I could smell the smoke. And
my father looked up at me. He said, "You killed him. You killed
your own brother."
Emily:
It was an accident, Zander. It was a terrible, terrible accident
--
Zander:
Yeah.
Emily:
And it wasn't your fault.
Zander:
Try and tell that to my dad. He blamed me for being careless, being
irresponsible. Emily, he couldn't even look at me. All he could
see was a reminder that he lost his firstborn son. So you ask me
why I never mentioned my father. Because from that day, I was dead
to him.
Emily:
Is that why you left home?
Zander:
Yeah, I couldn't make any sense out of anything. I couldn't make
anything out of my life -- until you. Yeah, I didn't know my father
was in Port Charles, and I'd gotten in some trouble with the cops.
And then, by some bizarre twist, he ended up my court-ordered psychiatrist.
Emily:
Have the two of you talked about the accident?
Zander:
What's the point? He's never going to stop blaming me.
Emily:
All right. There's a wall between you. It'll take both of you to
break it down.
Zander:
Neither of us want to.
Emily:
Uh-uh. I don't believe that.
Zander:
I know. That's because you think everything can be fixed. Sometimes
there's things in life that just -- they can't be made right.
Emily:
All right, Zander, you and your father -- you share a huge misunderstanding.
Don't waste time. You never know how much time you have left. Don't
let pride stand in your way.
He
reaches for the take-out bag sitting on the bench.
Zander:
Well, I got to get this -- I got to get this food over to Alexis.
Emily:
All right.
Zander:
Hey, I know how hard it is for you to keep this secret about Kristina
from your family, but I appreciate it, Em. I really do.
Zander
leaves.
Scott
arrives at the Quartermaines' with an officer.
Edward:
Oh.
Monica:
Oh, Scott, do you have any news?
Alan:
Have you found Kristina?
Scott:
No, and we have no leads.
Monica:
Well, something will have to turn up.
Alan:
It has to.
Scott:
I've instructed PCPD to take the wiretap off. I just wanted to come
by and tell you I'm sorry --
Ned:
No, no. Leave the wiretap.
Scott:
It's been a week, Ned.
Ned:
Leave it.
Scott:
Been no ransom demand.
Edward:
Because Kristina is with her mother, holed up in some Cassadine
hideaway, having a big laugh on all of us.
Scott:
Being treated at a private institution.
Edward:
Oh, yes, set up by Dr. Lewis as a smokescreen. Tell you, that man
would do anything, even kidnapping, if it would benefit Alexis.
Scott:
Well, there's just no proof.
Edward:
It shouldn't be that difficult, Baldwin. Just investigate. Put more
officers on the case. Do what you need to do.
Officer:
Mr. Quartermaine, we don't have any evidence against Ms. Davis.
Edward:
That is absurd!
Alan:
What is? The fact that you have no one to blame?
Monica:
Thanks to you, Edward, Kristina could be anywhere.
Edward:
Something goes wrong in this house, and suddenly it's my fault.
Monica:
It all began with your scheming. You bet.
Edward:
Now, be honest with us, Monica. You wanted that little baby in this
house just as much as the rest of us.
Monica:
I was appalled at what you did.
Alan:
You could have called the police, and you didn't.
Monica:
Because I was afraid that Kristina would be sent to a foster home.
Edward:
Monica, we saw you in this very room cooing to that little baby,
and then the judge came in and -- your lips were sealed.
Monica:
Yes, to your great relief.
Monica:
It's as much your fault as ours, Monica.
Emily
walks in.
Monica:
You know something? I should just call the police back and have
you both arrested on general principle!
Ned:
What is wrong with you people? A beautiful child has been kidnapped,
and you're standing here bickering as if someone lost a shoe.
Edward:
Oh, Ned, don't be so bitter.
Ned:
Kristina would be safe and sound in my home right now, but I don't
have a home. It was burned to the ground, along with all my personal
possessions, so you could abscond with your newest heir. And you
ask me not to be bitter?
Alan:
Ned, we love Kristina dearly.
Ned:
Then start acting like it. The police have given up. They think
Kristina will never be found. And as far as we know, they may be
right.
Ned
storms out of the French doors past a very guilty-looking Skye.
Emily can't take any more and walks out onto the terrace.
Emily:
Your baby's all right.
Cameron:
(Standing up from the bed) Sorry. I don't mean to go on and
on about it.
Alexis:
Cameron, losing a child is the worst thing that any parent can ever
go though.
Cameron:
Well, there's no point in dwelling on it. Peter's gone.
Alexis:
(She gets up from the table) But Zander isn't. He's here,
and he's suffering the same as you, but you're both doing it on
your own instead of being able to comfort each other.
Cameron:
There's been too much pain and anger, too much we both did wrong.
Alexis:
Do you think you could just reach out to him and maybe talk to him?
Just talk to him the way you're talking to me?
Cameron:
Alexis, I know you mean well, but you don't understand.
Alexis:
No, I don't understand why any parent would be separated from their
child willingly. I think I know what kind of man you are, Cameron,
and I can't imagine that you would -- would let this happen.
Cameron:
Well, I did.
Alexis:
Then I think there's more to the story than what you've told me.
The
door opens and Zander walks in.
Ned:
I appreciate you trying to be supportive. But if we haven't heard
from the kidnappers by now, we never will.
Emily:
All right, you don't understand. I know Kristina's all right. I've
seen her.
Ned:
Well, where is she?
Emily:
I'm sorry. I just -- I can't say.
Ned:
Emily, do you have any idea what I've been going through? This is
a helpless child, and I've been worried sick about her. And now
you're telling me that -- that you knew where she was but you chose
not to say anything?
Emily:
I only just found out.
Ned:
How? Who told you?
Emily:
Look, she's safe and she's healthy and everything's all right.
Ned:
Ok, Emily, I'm relieved to find out that she's happy and healthy
and safe, but you need to tell me now where she is, ok? She needs
to come home.
Emily:
She will very soon. Look, I'm sorry.
Ned:
You're sorry? Sorry -- sorry doesn't cut it, Emily. Who are you
trying to protect? Zander, right? Zander, Cameron Lewis' son. Cameron's
been close to Alexis.
Emily:
No -- no, Zander had nothing to do with it.
Ned:
Then who?
Alexis:
Thanks for bringing the supplies.
Zander:
Yeah, no problem.
Zander
puts the bag down on the table and isn't able to look up at either
Alexis or Cameron.
Alexis:
I know this is a difficult day for you.
Zander:
You told her?
Cameron:
Alexis is my friend. I trust her completely.
Zander:
Yeah, she's a friend of mine, too. Probably not anymore now that
you told her that I killed my own brother.
Alexis:
Zander, it was an accident.
Zander:
Oh -- see that, dad? I guess she didn't buy your version.
Alexis:
I'm not taking sides. I'm not. You both have been through a horrible
situation.
Zander:
Yeah, yeah. My dad lost his firstborn son, the one that he wanted,
the one that wasn't a screw-up.
Alexis:
Do you think maybe you could just give him a chance?
Zander:
Like he gave me?
Alexis:
It's the anniversary of your brother's death, so obviously there
are going to be very difficult feelings that are coming out.
Cameron:
Alexis, there's no point in trying.
Zander:
You see, Alexis? The shrink doesn't want to talk about his feelings.
Alexis:
I think that he needs you as much as you need him.
Zander:
(Angrily) Where do you get that?
Alexis:
It's obvious to anyone who knows both of you.
Zander:
No, Alexis, obviously, that is in your head. He pushed me away.
He drove me out. He couldn't even look at me. Or didn't he tell
you what a cold, hardhearted bastard he was until he drove me out
of my own house?
Alexis:
I think you're wrong, Zander.
Alexis:
Your father is not the cold-hearted person that you think he is.
Zander:
Yeah, could have fooled me.
Alexis:
He risked his professional life, he -- he risked his entire life
trying to make sure that I get to spend mine with my daughter, and
I fought him every step of the way. I -- I gave him every excuse
to walk away, but he didn't. He stayed there in spite of me.
Zander:
Look, Alexis, I'm glad my dad's helped you. The man you're talking
about -- I don't know him.
Zander
storms out of the cabin. Alexis turns around and looks at Cameron.
Alexis:
Do you realize that you stood there virtually silent the whole time
that I was speaking to Zander?
Cameron:
I knew you weren't getting through to him.
Alexis:
I don't understand how you can help me, help everybody else, but
you won't help your own son.
Cameron:
It's complicated.
Alexis:
No, it's not. It's very simple. He needs you. Go after him.
Alexis
sits in front of the fireplace with Kristina on her lap humming
to her.
The
door opens and Emily come in frantic.
Emily:
Alexis, I'm so sorry.
Alexis:
Emily, what happened?
Emily:
I -- I told Ned. He was terrified for his baby. He was afraid he
was never going to see her again.
Alexis:
So you said --
Emily:
That Kristina was all right and that she would be returned soon.
Alexis:
Did you tell him that I had her?
Emily:
No, I didn't. No, I didn't.
We
hear footsteps and Ned appears at the door.
Ned:
How in the hell could you do this?
Kristina
starts to fuss and Alexis tries to calm her.
Alexis:
Ok. Shh, shh, shh, shh.
(Camera
switches outside the cabin)
Zander
is sitting on a boulder and Cameron comes up behind him.
Cameron:
Alexander, we need to talk.
Zander:
Yeah, I'll pass, thanks.
Cameron:
Last time we were in woods like this was five years ago on the hunting
trip -- you, me, and Pete.
Zander:
Ok, look, if Alexis put you up to this --
Cameron:
This is about us -- you and me.
Zander:
No, this is not about us. Pete's in the middle of this. He always
will be.
Zander
starts to walk away.
Cameron:
Don't leave.
Zander:
Why, huh? So you can throw more blame in my face? Yeah. No, thanks.
I don't want to hear it. I'm done.
Cameron:
You didn't do it, Alexander.
Zander
stops.
Cameron:
You didn't kill your brother.
