"That's All Right. I've Got Another One"
It's
raining and thundering outside the cabin. Alexis is asleep in Cameron's
arms on the twin bed in the corner of the room. They are fully clothed
and covered in a blanket. Alexis wakes up and realizes where she
is. She
looks up at a sleeping Cameron. Just then Kristina starts to cry
and Alexis sits up, pulling Cameron's arm and waking him up. He
sits up.
Alexis:
(Uncomfortably) Uh, I want to thank you for being -- for
being here and staying with us because --
Cameron:
You're welcome.
Alexis:
Ahem. I've been a little -- I still think that I am overwhelmed,
(Cameron reaches over to his sore arm) and I'm sorry that
I cut off the circulation in your arm.
Cameron:
(Groans) That's all right. I've got another one.
Alexis
looks over at him hesitantly and smiles nervously.
Kristina
starts to cry again so Alexis gets up.
Alexis
hovers over Kristina who is crying in her crib. Cameron walks out
of the bathroom.
Alexis:
She's burning up. She's got a fever.
Cameron:
(Sits down next to her) No, she's got an ear infection.
Alexis:
How can you tell?
Cameron:
You mean besides 20 years in medicine? She was pulling at her ear.
Alexander used to do the same thing when he was a baby and had one.
Alexis:
Ok. All right, I'm going to need to get her to the hospital. (Picks
the baby up) Come on, sweetheart.
Cameron:
No, no, no. It's been all over the news that she's been abducted.
If you show up at the emergency room, you might as well confess
to kidnapping.
Alexis:
She needs medical attention. What happens to me doesn't seem to
matter at the moment.
Cameron:
It matters to me. I set this up so you could spend some time with
her before we take her back to the Quartermaines. I'm not going
to have you go to jail because of it.
Alexis:
We weren't planning on her getting sick.
Cameron:
Just relax. All she needs is an antibiotic. I'll write the prescription
myself. (He stands up) That's the cool thing about being
a doctor. (Grabs his coat) You stay calm. I'll be right back.
Alexis:
Hurry, please.
Cameron
walks out the door.
Alexis
rocks the baby close to her.
Alexis:
Ok. All righty, we're ok. We're ok.
Cameron
is waiting at the nurses' station when Scott walks up to him.
Scott:
Just the guy I wanted to see.
Cameron:
Why aren't you out looking for Alexis' baby?
Scott:
That's exactly what I've been doing -- you know, conducting interviews,
looking for clues, checking in with the Quartermaines, where we
just sit around staring at the phone, waiting for this -- this kidnapper
to call. Of course, the only person I haven't heard from is the
baby's mother - (pokes Cameron's chest) your patient.
Cameron:
I told you, my patient is undergoing intensive therapy.
Scott:
Where is that, exactly?
Cameron:
The location is a matter of doctor/patient privilege.
Scott:
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you mentioned that before. But see, the thing
is, I'm going to have to just take a little peek in the window,
make sure that she's in there and she hasn't left the country.
Cameron:
You have my word, Scott. She hasn't left the country --
Scott:
Your word is no good. You're lying. You lie about everything. You
lied about her alternate personality in the courtroom. You're lying
about her locked up getting help. You helped her kidnap her kid
from the Quartermaines. So not only are you going to be arrested
for kidnapping, but I'm going to make sure that your license is
revoked!
Cameron:
Do you find it empowering to make empty threats? It speaks to an
underlying sense of inadequacy. Maybe you're overcompensating for
your (shrugs) ineffectiveness at your job.
Scott:
Yeah, well, I don't think --
A
nurse walks up and hands Cameron a white bag.
Nurse:
Your meds, Dr. Lewis.
Scott:
Well. Now, I wonder who those are for.
Cameron
turns around annoyed.
Scott:
Let me guess - doctor/patient privilege.
Scott:
Well, if you got nothing to hide, who's the medication for?
Cameron:
I have an obligation to protect my patient's privacy.
Scott:
Oh, come on. Cut that song and dance. You're a lot more involved
with Alexis than just making house calls. In fact, you're spending
a lot more time on the couch than in therapy, and you ought to do
a better job at hiding that.
Scott
grabs for the prescription bag but Cameron pulls his arm back.
Cameron:
What are you doing?
Scott:
I'm trying to find a kidnapper. And when I do, you're going to be
arrested as an accessory.
Monica
walks up to them.
Monica:
Excuse me. I don't believe you have the authority to be here.
Scott:
He's hindering my investigation.
Monica:
Dr. Lewis is doing his job, which is much more than I can say for
you. Instead of harassing the
hospital staff, shouldn't you be out looking for Kristina? Hmm?
Scott:
(To Cameron) I'm not done with you.
Scott
turns around walks onto the elevator.
Cameron:
Thank you. And thanks for everything you've done for Alexis.
Monica:
You're welcome. Where is she?
Cameron:
I told you, radical intensive therapy.
Monica:
Right.
Cameron:
Thanks again for your help.
Cameron
walks away and Monica takes notice of the prescription bag in his
hand.
Cameron
walks into Kelly's carrying the prescription bad. He heads straight
for the counter.
Elizabeth:
Hi, Dr. Lewis. Takeout again?
Cameron:
Hi. Yeah, a couple of cheeseburgers, no fries this time. And throw
in some muffins for in the morning.
Elizabeth:
Are you ok?
Cameron:
Yeah, I'm just -- I'm just a little tired, that's all.
Elizabeth:
Ok.
Cameron
turns his head and notices Zander and Emily sitting at a table.
Zander
looks over and sees him. He takes a quick glance at Emily and then
motions for his father to come over. Cameron nods and walks over.
Cameron:
Alexander, good to see you.
Zander:
Emily, this is my father, Dr. Cameron Lewis.
Emily:
It's great to finally meet you, Dr. Lewis.
Cameron:
Cameron, please. And you're the famous Emily Quartermaine. Your
family told me you'd come home.
Emily:
Oh. Do you want to sit with this?
Cameron:
No, (looks at Zander) that's all right. I just ordered takeout.
Emily:
Oh, please, until your order's ready.
Zander
and Cameron look at each other.
Cameron:
Sure. (He grabs a chair from the table behind them and sits down)
So, I -- I understand you're a freshman at Stanford. (He places
his cell phone and the prescription bag on the table)
Emily:
I took a leave of absence. There was -- there was too much I missed
back home.
Zander:
How's Alexis doing? Any word on her baby?
Cameron:
Well, no. As far as I know, there's been no progress in locating
Kristina. But she seems to be handling it ok. I think the therapy
is helping.
Elizabeth
walks over with a take out bag.
Elizabeth:
Here you go, Dr. Lewis. It's $12.65.
Cameron:
Thank you.
Elizabeth:
Mm-hmm.
Cameron
stands up and hands Elizabeth some cash. Just then Scott walks in
with an officer.
Scott:
(He taps Cameron's arm) Not so fast.
Scott
pulls a warrant out of his coat.
Scott:
I got a warrant for your arrest -- conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
(To the officer behind him) Cuff him!
Zander:
Wait a second. What are you doing --
The
officer puts handcuffs on Cameron.
Scott:
(Yelling at Zander) Shut up and sit down! (To Cameron)
You're surprised, huh? It's amazing what the D.A. can accomplish
when he's properly motivated. Do you want to help yourself? Tell
me where I can find Alexis and the kid.
Cameron:
My patient is undergoing treatment at a private psychiatric facility.
Scott:
Oh, can that, will you? That whole patient/doctor thing went out
the window the minute those cuffs went on! Now I'm going to put
you on ice until you tell me where I can find Alexis and baby Kristina!
(Camera
switches back to the cabin)
Alexis
sits on a rocking chair in front of a warm fire holding the baby
close to her.
Alexis:
That's my girl. It's going to be all better. Everything's going
to be all right. Cameron went to get the medicine, ok? It's going
to make you feel all better. (Kisses the baby) Mommy's going
to see to that.
Alexis
starts to hum to the baby as she rocks her.
