"I Fooled You, Didn't I?"

Alexis and Cameron wait nervously in the courtroom for the proceedings to begin.

Alexis: Just tell me I can do this.

Cameron: It's a little tricky.

Alexis: Why are you saying that? No, you don't think you're going to be able to fool them?

Cameron: As an expert, yeah, I can do that, but you're going to have to be convincing as well.

Alexis: I fooled you, didn't I?

Cameron: (Smiling) Don't remind me.

Alexis: Ok. You just wanted me to say it.

Cameron: I told you I'm an expert. Just keep fooling them a little bit longer. Then you'll spend some time in the hospital --

Alexis: And then I'll get my daughter back. I can't let her down.

Cameron: You'll be brilliant in court and as a parent.

Alexis: No one is ever going to be able to love her as much as I do.

Ned holds Kristina while waiting for the nanny.

Ned: Sweet little girl. I'm going to see your mommy today. Yes, I am. (Lays her down in the bassinet) She loves you very much. So do I. (Looks at his watch) And your nanny is late again. Got to do something about that. Got to go. Got to go. You're going to be ok.

There's a knock at the door.

Ned: There she is. I'll have to get her a key, not to mention a watch.

He answers the door.

Woman: I'm Vera Cooper. The other nanny has the flu.

Ned: Why wasn't I notified?

Vera: She just called in. I'm sorry, Mr. Ashton. I have a referral from the agency, and you're welcome to call the office.

Ned: Come on in. (She walks in) I'm late for court. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to call the main house and have one of the maids come down here and be with you, help you out. I want you to call me if there's any emergency. (Looks in at Kristina) Ok, sweetie pie, you're going to be ok. I'll be back as soon as I can.

Ned leaves and Vera gets out her cell phones and makes a call.

Vera: Everything's all set.

(Camera switches to Edward)

Edward: All right, I'll -- I'll take it from here.

Edward hangs up. The camera pans back to reveal that Edward is in Scott's office and Scott has been listening to the call.

Edward: Well, I've done my job. Now you do yours.

Scott: Just doing your civic duty, huh, Ed? We don't want a killer on the street.

Edward: Well, you'd never know it by your conviction record.

Scott: Why you helping me?

Edward: That's none of your concern.

Scott: What do you want?

Edward: I want you to earn your salary for once, Baldwin, and I want you to see to it that Alexis is put away where she can't be a danger to my great-granddaughter.

Dara is going over the case with Alexis in the courtroom.

Dara: We're going for not guilty by reason of insanity, and Cameron will recommend hospitalization, ok?

Alexis: Ok, that sounds right.

Dara: Alexis, I know we haven't always been on the same side, but I just want you to know that I'm going to do everything I possibly can to get you through this.

Alexis: I appreciate that, Dara. Thank you.

(Camera moves outside the courtroom. Ned and Jax have just arrived.)

Jax: Are you ready for this?

Ned: I hope so.

Jax: How's Alexis holding up?

Ned: I wish I knew. She did get to spend some time with Kristina. I think that helped.

Jax: Well, good. All my experts came through. Dara's been consulting with the top people in the field.

Ned: That's great. I appreciate that, Jax. (Skye walks up to them) You're on your own.

Ned goes into the courtroom and Skye walks up to Jax.

Jax: Morning.

Skye: Don't yell at me for showing up, ok?

Jax: Glad that you didn't get hurt in Carly's club.

Skye: Oh, yeah, that was pretty scary.

Jax: But would it be terribly rude to ask why you're here?

Skye: Oh, with my track record in the courtroom? Not at all. I just -- I just wanted to come and give you some support, that's all.

Jax: You've already protected Alexis, even when Baldwin was coming after you.

Skye: I -- I just thought it might be nice for her to have somebody rooting for her, you know? From one boarding school brat to another?

Jax: Better get in there before all the good seats are taken.

Skye: Oh. Yeah, don't worry. I will.

Jax walks into the courtroom and stands next to Ned.

Jax: Never thought I'd see Alexis in this situation.

Ned: Me, neither.

Alexis turns and sees Ned and she springs from her chair.

Alexis: Ned --

Dara: Alexis, wait. (Holds Alexis back)

Ned walks up to Alexis.

Alexis: What are you doing here? Is Kristina all right? Who's watching her?

Ned: She's with the nanny, and she's fine. Don't worry. Everything's fine.

Alexis: I wish I could hold her right now.

Ned: I understand. You will.

(Cameron moves outside the courtroom)

Zander and Gia are waiting outside with Nikolas.

Nikolas: I realize you're both here to support Alexis, and it's appreciated, but I think it's best if Zander stays away.

Zander: Alexis saved me from being tried for murder. You remember that? I stayed with her for a couple of weeks. She's a friend.

Nikolas: I realize that, Zander, and Alexis is the one on trial for murder now. It's best if you were not here.

Gia: Will you just stop? Not that it even matters, but do you have any idea who Zander's father is? Cameron Lewis.

Nikolas: Well, then maybe Alexis should find a new doctor.

Cameron rounds the corner

Zander: At least my father isn't a sociopath.

Cameron: That's the nicest thing you've ever said about me.

Nikolas: Dr. Lewis, I don't mean to be rude. I do appreciate everything you've done for Alexis.

Cameron: Well, we'll see how good I am.

Nikolas: I hope you are for everyone's sake.

Nikolas goes into the courtroom.

Gia: Will you try not to kill each other?

Gia leaves them too.

Cameron: Defending me to your friends -- that's progress.

Zander: You think Nikolas Cassadine is a friend? Why aren't you in with Alexis?

Cameron: Well, she's with her attorney. I just stepped out to -

Zander: Find a door so you can disappear? Alexis trusts you. She's betting her life on this. Don't bail on her like you did on me.

Court is in session and Cameron is on the witness stand.

Scott: I'm no expert on Disassociative Identity Disorder. I still think of it as multiple personality, but you (taps the report) made it pretty clear in this report.

Cameron: Thank you.

Scott: So let me understand this -- when Alexis gets upset, her dead sister Kristina takes over, right?

Cameron: Simply put, yes.

Scott: And Alexis can't control these takeovers, so she's not responsible for what Kristina does. Is that what you're saying?

Cameron: Yes.

Scott: Let me ask you something, doc -- is it possible that Alexis is faking?

Cameron: In my professional opinion, Alexis Davis is suffering from a mental illness which involves psychotic breaks, confusion, loss of memory --

Scott: Excuse me, doctor. I'm sorry. I don't mean to interrupt, but let me just clarify this. Alexis Davis is a brilliant attorney. She's famous for her research.

Dara: (Standing up) Objection. Hearsay.

Scott: No, I can speak from personal experience here, judge, because I've gone up against her. She's the most prepared lawyer I've ever seen.

Judge: Overruled.

Scott: My point is that she's got the skill, she's got the resources, that maybe she's pulling the wool over our eyes here. Maybe she's just faking this whole thing so that she can get away with murder.

Cameron: In an overwhelming majority of cases, the patient is genuinely ill.

Scott: Well, we're not here to discuss the overwhelming majority. We're here to discuss her. Could she be faking? Yes? No?

Cameron: Yes. But in my professional experience --

Scott: What about your personal experience?

Cameron: I don't understand the question.

Scott: Well, you spend a great deal of time with Alexis, don't you?

Cameron: In recent days, yes.

Scott: She's an attractive woman. A nice figure --

Dara: Objection.

Judge: You know better, Mr. Baldwin.

Scott: Sorry. What I meant -- as a friend --

Dara: Objection. Relevance.

Scott: I'm speaking to his objectivity, your honor.

Judge: I'll allow it.

Scott: Have you ever -- ever taken her to lunch?

Cameron: Yes.

Scott: Dinner?

Cameron: Yes.

Scott: Have you ever been to her house?

Cameron: Yes.

Scott: Once? Twice?

Cameron: Several. I've been extremely concerned about her.

Scott: Concerned enough to spend the night with her?

Dara: (Standing up) Your honor, please. This is ridiculous.

Scott: Prosecution rests.

Scott struts back to his desk satisfied. Cameron and Alexis exchange worried glances.

Dara: (Muttering to Alexis) I don't believe this guy.

In the back of the courtroom Ned whispers to Jax.

Ned: What does he mean, "rests"?

Sitting on Scott's side of the courtroom Edward mumbles to himself.

Edward: God, Baldwin, I hope you know what you're doing.

Ned is on the witness stand.

Dara: Tell us about the woman you saw on the docks.

Ned: She had red hair, boots. Kristina had her own original style, and I thought it was her.

Dara: You were in love with Kristina, weren't you?

Ned: Yes, I was.

Dara: So in your heart, you wanted to see her alive?

Ned: Obviously. The woman I saw on the docks looked so much like her.

Dara: As opposed to Alexis?

Ned: Yes.

Dara: Now, you and Alexis were involved at one point, correct?

Ned: Mm-hmm. We were.

Dara: Was it serious?

Ned: We were engaged to be married.

Dara: And how would you characterize your relationship now?

Ned: Close friends. Lifetime friends. Almost family.

Dara: So you knew both women very well, but still you believed that the woman that you saw on the docks was Kristina Cassadine?

Ned: Yes. It was a complete transformation.

Dara: Thank you, Mr. Ashton.

Dara sits down and Scott approaches Ned.

Scott: You would do almost anything for Alexis, wouldn't you?

Dara: (Standing up) Objection.

Judge: Keep it specific, Mr. Baldwin.

Scott: You would help Alexis if she needed help?

Ned: Yes, I would.

Scott: Does she need help now?

Ned: She's under a doctor's care.

Scott: So there's nothing you can do?

Ned: I don't think I understand your question.

Scott: Well, is it possible that Alexis deliberately dressed up as Kristina --

Dara: (Stands up) Objection. Calls for speculation.

Scott: Well, knowing how much that you loved her sister, do you think maybe she was trying to mislead you?

Dara: Objection, your honor.

Judge: Sustained.

Scott: No more questions.

Judge: You may step down, Mr. Ashton.

Ned steps down.

Dara: I call Scott Baldwin as my next witness.

Gallery murmurs.

Scott: Objection, your honor. I haven't been notified.

Dara: Didn't you even look at the list? You're a witness.

Scott: No, I'm not.

Judge: Order in this court!

(Camera moves to Zander and Gia in the back of the courtroom)

Zander: Can she do that?

Gia: Sure looks that way.

(Camera moves to Jax and Ned)

Jax: She will eat him alive.

Ned: I hope so.

Scott is now on the stand. Dara holds Alexis' letter opener up in front of her.

Dara: Do you recognize this, Mr. Baldwin?

Scott: Yes. It's a letter opener.

Dara: Have you seen it before?

Scott: I've seen a lot of letter openers.

Dara: Did you see one at Alexis Davis' apartment on or about February 21?

Scott: Yes.

Dara: Did you open any letters with it?

Scott: No.

Dara: Did you put your hands on it?

Scott: No.

Dara: Can you describe to us what, if anything, happened at Alexis Davis' apartment on or about February 21?

Scott: She attacked me. She tried to gut me like a fish.

Dara: So Alexis Davis came at you with a letter opener?

Scott: Yes.

Dara: Haven't you known her for a long time?

Scott: Yes.

Dara: I mean, you've faced her in court. You've had public debates. You even went up against her for the job you currently hold. Isn't that correct?

Scott: That's right. I know how smart she is. That's why I know she's faking.

Dara: Which speaks directly to my point. Until on or about February 21, had you ever known Alexis Davis to be violent?

Scott: No.

Dara: Did the woman who came after you in Alexis Davis' apartment, did she act like the Alexis Davis that you've known for years?

Scott: No.

Dara: Did she refer to herself as Alexis Davis? (Scott shifts uncomfortably) Mr. Baldwin?

Scott: (Reluctantly) No.

Dara: What did she call herself?

Scott: (Sighs) Kristina.

Dara: Kristina. Did Kristina fit the profile that Dr. Lewis described?

Scott: I don't understand the question.

Dara: Did she present herself when Alexis became upset?

Scott: Well, why shouldn't she? The whole thing's an act.

Dara: And that's your expert opinion? Didn't you just tell the courtroom that you were no expert?

Scott: Well, I don't have to be an expert.

Dara: Do you understand the difference between fact and opinion?

Scott: Yeah, and can you see that this whole thing's a setup?

Judge: Just answer the question, Mr. Baldwin. Don't try your case from the witness stand.

Dara: I have no more questions for this witness.

Scott: I move to cross.

Judge: You want to cross-examine yourself?

Scott: Absolutely.

Judge: Not in my courtroom. Next witness.

Scott steps down and goes to his desk.

Dara: (Stands up) I call Alexis Davis.

Judge: Any objections, Mr. Baldwin?

Scott: None at all.

Alexis walks up to the witness stand and sits down.

Dara: Why did you go to Luis Alcazar's room that night?

Alexis: To protect my daughter.

Dara: Had he threatened your daughter in any way?

Alexis: He abandoned me in the snow when I went into labor. He left me there, and as a result my baby was born prematurely. After that, he -- I found him outside the neonatal ward at the hospital, and I was worried for my daughter. I thought that he would hurt my daughter.

Dara: To your knowledge, had he harmed children before?

Alexis: He had kidnapped Felicia Jones' two children and held them hostage. There was reason for my concern.

Dara: So did you threaten Mr. Alcazar that night?

Alexis: I don't remember.

Dara: That seems awfully convenient, Alexis.

Alexis: (Cautiously) I suppose that it would seem that way.

Dara goes to the evidence table and picks up the steak knife. She holds it up in front of her.

Dara: Did you pick up this steak knife on the night Luis Alcazar was murdered?

Alexis: I don't remember.

Dara: (Sarcastically) There's a surprise.

(Camera focuses on Ned and Jax)

Ned: What is she doing?

(Camera moves back to Dara and Alexis)

Dara: Have you lost significant blocks of time before?

Alexis: I'm sorry. What?

Dara: Have you lost significant blocks of time before?

Alexis: Uh -- I've been losing blocks of time since my sister was killed in the warehouse explosion.

Dara: Can you describe them?

Alexis: Um -- there were times, for example, where I would find myself in a restaurant and I -- I wouldn't be able to figure out how I had gotten there.

Dara: Just like that, out of nowhere?

Alexis: And I would have ordered food to the table that I don't even like, so I don't remember ordering them. Like tofu or something.

Dara: That must have been terribly inconvenient for you.

Alexis: They were foods that my sister Kristina liked.

Dara: Anything else?

Alexis: There would be clothes scattered in my apartment, and I had no recollection of having purchased them.

Dara: Do you remember attacking Mr. Baldwin in your apartment?

Alexis: I don't remember.

Dara: Anything else?

Alexis: There was a wind chime in my apartment, and I don't -- I have no recollection of purchasing that, either. My sister liked them.

Dara: Have your blackouts been occurring more and more frequently?

Alexis: They've been occurring more frequently since my baby was born.

Dara: And where was your daughter during these blackouts?

Alexis: She was in the hospital.

Dara: And where is she now?

Alexis: She's at Ned Ashton's house. She's with a nanny.

Dara: (Egging her on) Must be nice, Alexis.

Scott: Your honor, she's badgering her own client.

Judge: Tone it down, Ms. Jensen.

Dara: Has your baby been put at risk because of your illness?

Alexis: No. Never.

Dara: Are you sure about that, Ms. Davis?

Alexis gets very uncomfortable and Kristina emerges.

Alexis: [As Kristina] Why would you even ask a question like that, Ms. Jensen, when you already know the answer to it? You know very well that my sister would never hurt her daughter.

Dara: Kristina.

The gallery murmurs.

Dara: Your honor, may I introduce Kristina Cassadine?

Scott: (Jumps out of his chair) Objection, your honor. These are cheap courtroom theatrics!

Judge: I'll allow it.

Scott: Wait a minute! Can't you see she's faking?

Dara: Did you go after Mr. Baldwin with a letter opener?

Alexis: I did.

Dara: Did you attack Luis Alcazar with this knife --

Alexis: He was going to hurt Alexis.

Cameron stands up.

Cameron: Your honor, as the attending psychiatrist, she's taking this too far.

Judge: I have to see what we're dealing with, Dr. Lewis.

Alexis: (To the judge) You're dealing with me, your honor, and I am not going to let anyone do or say anything that will hurt my sister or hurt her daughter.

Dara: Would you hurt Alexis?

Cameron starts to head toward Alexis when he's held back by a police officer.

Cameron: Don't do this. Let me bring Alexis back.

Dara: I have no more questions, your honor.

Dara goes back to her desk.

Scott: I move to cross.

Cameron: That's far too dangerous for my client.

Dara: I agree, your honor.

Judge: You opened this door, Ms. Jensen. Mr. Baldwin has the right to go through it.

Scott walks smugly up to Alexis.

Scott: Hello, Alexis. How long we been working on this "Crazy Kristina" act?
