"I
Didn't Trust the Wrong Person, Did I?"
Alexis
is sitting in her hospital bed when Edward knocks on her door and
walks in.
Edward:
I trust I'm not intruding.
Alexis:
I'm not in the mood for visitors, Edward.
Edward:
I'm not here as a visitor. I'm here as a very concerned great-grandparent.
I understand you were taken to visit little Kristina today.
Alexis:
The visit was supervised by a licensed therapist.
Edward:
Mm-hmm. I see. One who did not tell us that you were coming and
who did not check with us for permission to even see the child.
You have to know that my family is very concerned. And clearly,
in your present state, you are a danger to Kristina.
Alexis:
Get out, Edward. (She starts screaming) Get out! You're a
mean old man. Get out!
Cameron
walks in.
Cameron:
Edward, leave.
Edward:
Very well, very well. I've seen enough to know that this poor woman's
once brilliant mind is now completely shattered. Oh, she is behaving
like a real Cassadine now, ranting and raving and hurling death
threats. You know, I really think it would be better if Kristina
never saw her mother again.
Alexis:
You stay away from my daughter, Edward. You stay away from my daughter!
Edward
walks out and Cameron shuts the door.
Cameron:
Calm down. (Walks up to the bed)
Alexis:
The only danger to my daughter is that controlling old vulture and
his dysfunctional family --
Cameron:
If you're doing your Kristina act, don't bother.
Alexis:
I'm not doing anything, Cameron. I don't want him anywhere near
my daughter.
Cameron:
Then you need to find a way to keep it under control because the
trial's approaching. And if you don't get it together, you're going
to find yourself convicted of murder. Then you'll be the one taken
away from your child.
Zander
arrives at Scott's office.
Scott:
Thanks for coming by.
Zander:
The cops you sent over didn't give me much choice.
Scott:
(Sits down at his desk) See, Dr. Lewis is your father, Alexis
Davis' shrink. I wonder who they're going to get to testify in her
behalf. I'm sure they've got something -- you know, scheme cooked
up, and I bet you know what it is.
Zander:
Alexis has helped me when I needed it more than once. There's no
way I'm going to help you railroad her.
Scott:
Think again. You were arrested for public disturbance, and then
you were admitted to general hospital on a drug overdose. If I put
my mind to it, I'm sure I could concoct some kind of a charge and
send you to jail.
Zander:
In other words, you're threatening to blackmail me?
Scott:
I'm trying to make you a deal, dummy.
Zander:
You must be pretty desperate to try and force me to turn against
Alexis. If you can't win this case, then I suggest you back off.
Scott:
Alexis Davis is on her way to prison, and so will you be. Drop that
attitude.
Zander:
I don't know anything, and I'm not going to be spying for you. I'd
rather go to jail again than testify against Alexis.
Scott:
Uh-huh.
Zander
knocks on Alexis' door and steps in.
Zander:
You up for visitors?
Alexis:
As long as it's not Scott Baldwin and Edward Quartermaine.
Zander:
I would've come sooner, but I didn't know if you wanted to see people.
Alexis:
It's a little awkward when you've been committed as a mental patient
and been charged with murder. I mean, people aren't quite sure what
to bring or what to say.
Zander:
How you doing? (He touches her knee)
Alexis:
I've been better.
Zander:
Is there anything I can bring you?
Alexis:
A compassionate jury.
Zander:
Alexis, you helped me when everyone else in the world was willing
to let me rot in prison. Now I want to return the favor by helping
you.
Alexis:
Thank you, Zander.
Zander:
Scott Baldwin dragged me into his office to work me for information
on your defense.
Alexis:
I'm sorry. He's just fighting dirty. I'm sorry.
Zander:
No, I wouldn't have told him anything even if I knew it, which I
don't. But I heard enough to realize how much you're counting on
my father and his testimony.
Alexis:
I know that you and your father --
Zander:
Alexis, if it gets bad, he'll bail. My father can't handle failure
-- not in himself and not in anyone else. It's why my brother Pete
drove himself so hard. It's why I took off. You can't put your life
in my father's hands. You do have a backup plan, right? Find another
shrink to prove you're innocent.
Cameron
walks in.
Cameron:
What are you doing here?
Zander:
I'm telling Alexis not to trust you.
Cameron:
Now is not the time to inflict our family's dysfunction on Alexis.
Zander:
Our family dysfunction is about to hit her in the face. Alexis is
on trial for murder. She's betting her life on your testimony. Dr.
Cameron Lewis, who talks a great game but walks away when the pressure's
on.
Alexis:
Zander, I appreciate your concern. I truly do. But I believe that
your father is an excellent psychiatrist, and he understands my
particular disorder, and I'm hoping that he will make a jury understand
that, as well.
Zander:
Baldwin's going to play dirty. He's out for blood.
Alexis:
Thank you for the warning.
Zander:
You need anything, (rubs her knee) call me.
Alexis:
I will.
Zander:
Ok.
Zander
walks out the door and runs into Gia who has arrived with some legal
documents for Alexis' case.
Gia:
Hey.
Zander:
How's it going?
Gia:
Research for Alexis' case. How's she doing?
Zander:
She's in deep trouble.
(Camera
switches back to Alexis' room)
Cameron:
Sorry about that.
Alexis:
Zander sometimes acts without thinking, but he is genuinely concerned.
I am, too. My life's in your hands. I didn't
trust the wrong person, did I?
Zander
and Gia walk into Kelly's.
Gia:
I can't believe Scott threatened to have you arrested.
They
sit down.
Zander:
He was bluffing. He knew five minutes into our conversation that
I didn't know anything about Alexis' defense.
Gia:
Scott already has a strong case. He's obviously pulling out all
the stops to make sure he gets a guilty verdict.
Zander:
You know, until Baldwin questioned me, I didn't realize how important
my father was to Alexis' case.
Gia:
Zander, do you not trust your father because he treated you badly
or do you truly believe that he'll tank Alexis' defense?
Zander:
The father I knew wanted to look good at all costs. And when that
didn't happen, he cut his losses. That's what happened with me.
I made him look like a bad parent, so he shut me down. Maybe he's
changed. You know, for Alexis' sake, I hope so.
Cameron:
I'll willingly concede that my failings as a parent are legion,
but I wouldn't be the first person with a flawed personal life and
a brilliant professional one.
Alexis:
I know someone like that, too.
Cameron:
Then you know I won't fail you. Modesty aside, I'm good at what
I do. If anybody can convince a jury you're innocent, it's me.
The
door opens and Scott walks in.
Scott:
Sorry to interrupt your therapy session. Or are you two working
on your (twirls his fingers by his ears) Tweety Bird act?
Cameron:
Baldwin, if you have something to say, say it and leave.
Scott:
You're faking. I'm going to prove it to the judge tomorrow.
Alexis:
My lawyer petitioned for a postponement.
Scott:
(Chuckles) Denied. I just got confirmation. So tomorrow,
the judge. See you two in court.
Scott
strolls off satisfied. Alexis looks scared. Cameron walks over to
her and takes her hand.
