"Take Good Care of My Baby"

Ned tells Faith he's bringing Kristina home today so she has to get out of the gatehouse. He tells her he doesn't want her anywhere near Kristina.

Cameron walks in as Alexis paces in her room.

Alexis: How did it go last night?

Cameron doesn't answer.

Alexis: Scott must have been ecstatic when you showed him the files and told him everything.

Cameron moves toward her.

Cameron: Feeling a little paranoid, are we?

Alexis: Are the police on their way? Did you come here to keep me calm?

Cameron: Delusional, too.

Alexis: Did you turn me in or not?

Cameron: I covered for you.

Alexis bows her head in relief and shame and walks over to the desk.

Alexis: I've been a wreck.

Cameron: Well, what else is new? I needed time to think.

Alexis: I guess I shouldn't have written anything down.

Cameron: No question.

Alexis: And any decent attorney would know that the search was illegal.

Cameron: Maybe. But if Scott had seen your notes on disassociate identity defenses -

He tilts his head as if to say, "You know what would have happened."

Alexis: I'm glad you were there. You do know that you are now an accessory after the fact in about 15 different ways?

Cameron: Oh, yeah.

Alexis: And that you could lose your license, your job, and even end up in jail?

Cameron: Sounds about right.

Alexis: Why are you doing this for me?

Cameron: You risked everything for the sake of your child. I admire that.

Alexis: But I killed a man.

Cameron: In self-defense.

Alexis: Scott's not going to buy that. (She walks away from him)

Cameron: You already lost your sister because of Alcazar. You shouldn't have to lose your daughter, too. I have some idea what that's like.

Alexis: So this is because of Zander?

Cameron: Yeah. I know it sounds completely irrational, but I have this feeling that if I can help you keep your baby --

Alexis: That you'll get him back?

Cameron: Maybe Luke's right. Maybe I am as crazy as my patients.

Alexis: (She smiles) I think that's entirely possible. So what do we do now?

Cameron: Don't know. Baldwin's not going to give up.

Alexis: Even with the videotape?

Cameron: He's determined to have a trial.

Alexis: Why? Why? All he has to do is tell a judge that I'm crazy, I'll be committed, and he gets to keep his job. He's already botched this case in a public way. Why does he think he's going to win now?

Cameron: Well, gee, maybe he thinks you're faking.

Scott is on the phone flipping playing cards across his desk into a wastebasket.

Scott: We need strong expert testimony for the prosecution. We got to cut through this split personality thing. Ok, call it whatever you want. We just got to prove that Alexis is faking. (Taggert walks in) $4,000? What, are you a crook? All right, all right, calm down, calm down. You just tell the jury what I want them to hear. Yeah. I'll be in touch. Good-bye.

Scott hangs up and Taggert closes the door loud so Scott hears him.

Taggert: $4,000? Are you out of your mind?

Scott: Well, if it isn't Mr. Big ears.

Taggert: Look, you got voters out there in the unemployment line, and you're already thinking of ways to spend the taxpayers' money by having a second trial.

Scott: They want a trial just like I do.

Taggert: By paying a guy to say whatever you want? The jury will see through it, and so will the public.

Scott: Not if I pull it off.

Zander walks into Kelly's as Gia is finishing breakfast. He notices her distress when the bill comes for the meal. He walks over to her and kids her about losing her wallet. He explains that she' s using all her modeling money for law school tuition so she's broke. He offers to pay for her breakfast.

Zander: (To Courtney) I'm paying for Gia's breakfast. No matter what she says, don't take her money.

Courtney: Ok, got it.

Courtney smiles and walks away.

Gia: That was cute.

Zander: What'd you think I was going to say to her?

Gia: Look, I'll pay you back, all right?

Zander: No hurry. I kind of like you owing me.

They both smile. Zander's eye catches the door and he stops smiling.

Gia: What's wrong?

Zander: I don't need this.

Cameron walks in the door.

Gia: Look, just don't start throwing chairs, ok?

Zander: Coming here to check up on me?

Cameron: No, I need a moment with Gia.

Zander: (Gets up from the table) Don't let me get in your way.

Cameron: I won't.

Zander walks over to the counter and Cameron sits down in his chair.

Gia: You could be a little nicer to him.

Cameron: I'm here about Alexis.

Gia: He's your son. Don't you even care?

Cameron: Baldwin wants to drag her through a trial, put her away for life.

Gia: Did you hear anything I just said?

Cameron: (He sighs) Maybe this wasn't a good idea.

Gia: What do you want?

Cameron: Baldwin works closely with your brother.

Gia: I'm not breaking into anyone's office.

Cameron: Well, that idea hadn't occurred to me, but maybe you could talk to him about finding out Scott's strategy.

Gia: You want me to use Marcus to help Alexis?

Cameron: Well, there's been a little friction between the two of them lately.

Gia: And you want me to capitalize on that?

Cameron: If Alexis loses this case, Gia, she loses the baby. You don't want that to happen.

Gia: Maybe you should worry about your own kid instead of Alexis' kid all the time.

Gia gets up and leaves.

Alexis is in bed. Ned sits down next to her holding a legal document.

Ned: I want what's best for you and your daughter, you know that.

Alexis: We've had this discussion.

Ned: I really want to take Kristina home with me today.

Alexis: (She gets up out of the bed) Ned, no. Please, please, no.

Ned: She really needs to be out of the hospital.

Alexis: It's too soon.

Ned: She's been ready to leave for weeks now. (He walks up to her)

Alexis: She'll be confused. She'll wonder where I am.

Ned: Well, then, we'll come by and visit, you know that.

Alexis: What about Faith?

Ned: Faith will have nothing to do with her.

Alexis: You got to promise me, Ned. You can't just say that to me --

Ned: I promise, I promise. I'm not going to say it. I promise she will have nothing to do with her.

Alexis: What happens if she gets sick?

Ned: Well, I'm at the gatehouse. Alan and Monica are right up the driveway.

Alexis: Who's going to take care of her?

Ned: I will, at first.

Alexis: And some nanny that I've never met?

Ned: I've already done the interviews.

Alexis: I can't -- I can't do it.

Ned: So, you want to keep her in the hospital nursery for the whole trial?

Alexis: There may not be a trial.

Ned: Baldwin's out to get you. He's going to make this last as long as he possibly can, but you -- you need to take care of yourself, Alexis.

Alexis: Because I'm crazy. It's ok. You can say it, Ned.

Ned: Kristina needs full-time care, and you can't give her that right now.

Alexis: I'm afraid that you'll take her and you won't bring her back.

Ned: Come on. You know me better than that. Please, just do this for your daughter. (He holds out the papers and a pen) Sign the papers so I can take her home.

Alexis: I can't. I can't.

Cameron sits at his table at Kelly's and thinks.

He gets up and walks over to Zander at the counter.

Cameron: About before -- I was wrong to shut you out.

Zander: Gia laid the guilt on, right?

Cameron: I want us to get past what happened.

Zander: But you can't, right? You just -- you keep seeing me, and it keeps coming back.

Cameron: We've already lost too many years together.

Zander: And whose fault is that?

Cameron: Mine. No question.

Zander: So what's the catch?

Cameron: Most people don't get a second chance. We have one. I don't want to waste it.

Zander: When I met Emily and we went away to Canada --

Cameron: (Sarcastically) The young woman you dragged out of the rave at gunpoint?

Zander: I kept stealing cars, and they kept breaking down, and we end up stuck on the side of the road with all sorts of people after us.

Cameron: Yeah, I heard the F.B.I. was involved.

Zander: I kept thinking that you'd drive by, you know? That you'd been hunting up in Canada, and that you'd drive by and there I'd be, by myself on the side of the road.

Cameron: In a stolen car with a hostage.

Zander: (He looks away and snickers) And you didn't even stop then. Even in my imagination, you just kept driving.

Cameron: I don't want us to live in the past.

Zander: I'm trying to get over my past, and you're a part of that.

He puts his money on the counter and walks off.

Ned: Kristina needs to get out of this hospital. You know that.

Alexis: I have to be able to trust you, Ned. This can't be a trick.

He holds up the papers in front of him.

Ned: You've read the forms. All it does is give me the right to take Kristina out of the hospital. It says that I will take care of her until you're better. That's it.

Alexis nods and walks over to the bed.

Ned: I'm on your side. You know that. I have been from the start.

Alexis: My daughter is all that I have.

Ned: I know. And I know you want to give her a good life.

Alexis: I do. That's what I'm trying to do. (Tears fall down her cheeks)

Ned: By leaving her in the hospital? I mean, what kind of life is that? (Sits down beside her) And who's going to -- who's going to hear her when she starts trying to say words? A nurse? Hospital volunteer? The janitor? Who's going to sing to her every single night? Pick her up when she cries?

Alexis: I want to.

Ned: I know you do, and you will, but you can't right now. (Takes her hand) You can't right now. Kristina's getting very good care here at the hospital, but she needs to be with people who want her. You never had that. Neither did I. Now's your chance to give your daughter more. Give Kristina what you never had -- a real life in a real home.

She sobs into her hand and then wipes her face.

She walks over to the table and signs the papers.

Alexis: (Hands him the papers) Take good care of my baby.

Ned: Come here.

Alexis: Please.

Ned hugs her.

Ned: Yeah. I will. I'll take good care of her.

Alexis cries on his shoulder.

Edward goes over to the gatehouse to speak with Faith. She complains that Ned is taking the baby home. This puts a damper and her plan with Edward to undercut Ned. Edward says he'll handle it. It makes a phone call to someone and tells him to mobilize.

Gia goes to Taggert's office to find out what Scott has on Alexis.

Taggert: Does anyone else know you're asking about Baldwin's game plan?

Gia: Dr. Lewis suggested it. I thought it was a bad idea at first.

Taggert: It may be.

Gia: It isn't fair to you, so if there's any problem -- but I know you don't like the way Baldwin's dealing with this case.

Taggert: I've never made any secret about that.

Gia: And Alexis has been so supportive of me.

Taggert: You helped her out, too.

Gia: But I just keep thinking about her baby. I mean, what happens if Alexis goes to prison?

Taggert: So you think it's ok that she committed murder?

Gia: Well, do you think her confession will stand up in court?

Taggert: I'm a cop, not an attorney.

Gia: Alexis is mentally ill. She isn't responsible.

Taggert: What if Alexis isn't mentally ill?

Gia: She's been diagnosed by at least one psychiatrist.

Taggert: (Tries to hint) What if Baldwin isn't buying this whole multiple personality diagnosis?

Gia: It's a real condition, whether he likes it or not.

Taggert: (Tries to hint even harder) What if Baldwin thinks she's faking?

Jax appears at Alexis' door.

Alexis: Did you see Kristina on the way out? Is she all right?

Jax: Alexis?

Alexis: (Confused) Yeah? (She realizes he's wondering which Alexis' he's talking to) Yes. Ned took Kristina home. I just wanted to know if she was all right.

Jax: Oh, she's well enough to go home? That's great.

Alexis: I hope Ned knows what to do with her, that's all.

Jax: Oh, I'm sure he'll just feed her lots of ice cream. (He smiles)

Alexis: That's not making me feel any better.

Jax: It was a joke. I was kidding.

Alexis: I know.

Jax: I'm sure Ned will be fine. He'll give her everything she needs and more.

Alexis: I know. You're right.

Jax: Yeah. He knows what he's doing.

Alexis: Ok. Yeah, I know. I just can't help worrying, I'm sorry.

Jax: Don't be.

Alexis: I just never expected to be in this situation.

Jax: Well, you won't be for much longer. I stopped by to tell you that I've arranged for your attorney.

Alexis: Thank you.

Jax: Now, is there anything else you need? Chocolate, perhaps?

Alexis: No, thanks.

Jax: I guess champagne's out of the question.

Alexis: You know, Brenda's a fool, in case you were wondering.

Jax: Well, you know, Brenda's history.

Alexis: You expect me to believe that?

Jax: Yes, I do.

Cameron walks in.

Cameron: Jax?

Alexis: Did you speak to Baldwin?

Cameron: Not yet.

Jax: Alexis will have the best defense money can buy.

Cameron: Good. She's going to need it.

Alexis: So you'll check with Ned and then you'll call me?

Jax: Yes, I will.

Alexis: Thanks.

Jax: All right, I'll be touch, ok?

Jax leaves.

Cameron: You have loyal friends.

Alexis: I do.

Cameron: Rich friends.

Alexis: All the money in the world isn't going to get me out of this.

Ned arrives at the gatehouse with Kristina to find filled with pink and blue balloons, a lot of baby furniture and Edward. Edward says he can't run ELQ and take care of a baby at the same time. Ned throws him out.

Cameron: Must've been hard to let Ned take your baby.

Alexis: It was. It was horrible. But I did what I thought was right. I'm worried that he might be suspicious.

Cameron: Because you let him take Kristina home?

Alexis: No, because I didn't flip into my sister.

Cameron: He'll think you're getting better.

Alexis: You think so?

Cameron: You have a great doctor. What else could he think?

Alexis: It's good you can make jokes right now.

Cameron: Ned doesn't suspect anything.

Alexis: Are you sure?

Cameron: Look at it this way -- at least you're not faking the paranoia.

Gia appears at the door.

Gia: Dr. Lewis, I'm glad I caught you.

Cameron: Did you find out anything?

Gia: Scott Baldwin thinks you're faking.

Alexis: Oh, my god.

Cameron: Are you sure?

Gia: Yeah, he's got all sorts of experts to tear you to shreds on the stand.

Cameron: We get the idea.

Gia: Is it true? Are you faking?

Alexis: Gia, how can you say something like that to me? What on earth would make me want to do something like that to my daughter? To everyone around me?

Gia: I'm sorry. It must be terrible for you.

Alexis: It's all right, Gia. I just didn't expect something like that from you. I expect it from Baldwin but not you.

Alexis: How do you think Baldwin figured it out?

Cameron: He suspects, that's all.

Alexis: What if I can't fool the experts? They'll take away my daughter forever.

Faith meets with the hit-man she hired - a woman named Sam. Faith tells her that hit will go down at The Cellar during her grandmother's wake.
