"Don't Cry"

Wind chimes sound as Alexis points the letter opener at Scott's face.

Alexis: (As Kristina) You just can't leave anything alone. I -- I told you to leave it alone, Scott.

Scott: (Grabs her hand) Ok, listen, just put the knife down. (She backs away from him and he raises his hands in the air) Ok, we'll talk, we'll talk.

Alexis: (Shaking the blade at him) I can't, and I won't.

She thrusts the letter opener back up at his chest and he backs off.

Scott: You're -- you're not going to have to go to jail.

Alexis: You're a liar. You are a liar! You have been chasing Alcazar's killer for months. You're an incompetent, Scott, and I am standing in front of you confessing the crime, and you're a liar!

Scott: Well, come on. Now, listen, a jury is going to be sympathetic. Alcazar killed your sister. He left you out in the snow with your unborn child, for crying out loud. (Grabs her arm holding the knife) But if you do anything to me, (she backs up) it's going to be a different story, Alexis!

Alexis: Alexis isn't here, which is why I'm going to deal with this. She can't handle this, and I can, which is why I'm here!

She lunches at him with the letter opener again as the door opens.

She whirls around as she hears it and thrusts the blade at Cameron.

Alexis: You did it. You did this! You sent him here, you liar!

Jax and Skye arrive down at the docks.

Jax: So, are you feeling any better about the situation?

Skye: Dara was very reassuring.

Jax: She's a good lawyer. She defended Brenda and Jason against the Alcazar murder. I'm sure that she can back Baldwin off arresting you for a while.

Skye: What -- what is a little while, Jax? I know you want to support Alexis, and I want to help if I can, but I did not sign on to be tried for a murder that I didn't commit.

Jax: This is just a stall. You got to understand that, ok? The psychiatrist needs a little time to get Alexis into treatment.

Skye: And then what? All right, let's say Alexis is successfully integrated or whatever the cure is for multiple personality disorder -- I don't know. Then will she confess, or are we supposed to keep quiet until it all goes away? Because, I'm telling you, from what I can see, Scott Baldwin shows no signs of getting discouraged. (She steps out toward the end of the dock) Every little setback makes him more determined to pin Alcazar's murder on someone, and right now that someone is me. I know myself. I can't handle being a permanent murder suspect any more than I can handle going through a murder trial. At some point, Alexis is going to have to confess.

Jax: Or you'll accuse her?

Cameron: I didn't send Scott here. He came on his own.

Scott: That's right. I came here to have a conversation with -

Alexis: (Points the knife at Scott) You're lying. Be quiet! You lie! He - he lies! He lies all the time!

Scott: Hey, listen, put the knife down before somebody gets hurt.

Cameron: Kristina, give me the knife. You're safe with us.

Alexis turns away from Scott and places the knife in Cameron's hand. She grabs hold of the lapels of his coat and pleads to him.

Alexis: He's trying to arrest me.

Cameron gives Alexis worried look. Scott seems to get a little creeped out.

Scott: Hey, what's going on here?

Alexis continues to hold onto Cameron's lapels as if holding onto a life ring.

Cameron: This is Kristina, Alexis' sister.

Scott: The one who died in the warehouse?

Alexis: (Turns to look at Scott) The one who was killed in the warehouse.

She turns back to Cameron and rests her elbow against his chest and holds her head in her hand.

Cameron: She's trying to protect Alexis. What she doesn't realize is that (looks down at Alexis) we're trying to protect Alexis, too.

Scott: That's right. Kristina, we're on the same page here.

Alexis: (Looks at Scott) Shut up! You're a liar.

Scott: No - I do not want to hurt Alexis. (Alexis looks up at Cameron) Ok? I'm not here for that.

Alexis lets Cameron loose and walks toward Scott.

Alexis: You don't care about my sister. You've never cared about my sister.

Scott: (Raises his hands) Yes, I do.

Alexis: No, you don't!

Scott: I respect her.

Alexis: You tell lies about her private life. You humiliate her every chance that you get!

Cameron: (Steps in between them) Kristina, stop.

Alexis: He - he's a liar!

Cameron: You got to listen to reason.

Alexis: You just want me to listen to you.

Cameron: What do you think you're going to accomplish? Do you want to go to jail, be separated from the baby?

Alexis: I just - I - I just want to help my sister.

Cameron: By threatening people? Think about your behavior, Kristina.

Alexis: (Puts her hand to her face as if to hide) No.

Cameron: All this can do is make things worse for Alexis. Is that what you secretly want?

Alexis: (She walks toward the wall) No, no, no! No!

(She braces her arms tightly around her neck) That's not what I want! I -

She stops. Cameron and Scotty wait for something to happen. Alexis slowly looks up from her cowered position.

Cameron: Alexis?

Alexis: You've got to help me.

Alexis comes away from the wall and walks to the desk looking exhausted.

Cameron: It's called dissociative identity disorder. (Alexis leans against the desk) An alternate personality -- in this case, Kristina -- emerges to protect Alexis when she feels backed into a corner.

Scott: And that's just what happened now, huh?

Cameron: Yeah. You questioned Alexis about Alcazar's murder, she felt threatened, and Kristina emerged to deal with you.

Scott: Well, who killed Alcazar, Alexis -

Alexis grabs the wind chimes off the desk and throws them across the room.

Alexis: I can't stand this! I -- I can't stop it. I can't control myself, and I -- I want to. I just don't have any power to do it.

Cameron: That's because Kristina has power.

Alexis: I'm not Kristina.

Cameron: (Stepping up to her) That's why you win, Alexis -- because you're ultimately better equipped to respond to treatment and achieve integration than Kristina is.

Alexis: I wanted Alcazar dead. I thought he deserved to die, but I would never have been able to act on it.

Cameron: You didn't.

Scott: (Pointing at her) But you wanted Alcazar dead.

Cameron: Alexis is clearly manifesting an alternate personality, one who takes actions that she's not aware of. I'll testify to that in a court of law.

Scott: She admitted she killed Alcazar.

Cameron: Kristina confessed because Kristina is the one who did it.

Scott: (Angrily) You know what? Enough! Enough of your nonsense. (He steps toward Alexis and stares her down)

The person who shoved Alcazar off the balcony is standing right in front of me, and that person has to pay!

Skye: Look, Jax, I -- I wish I could promise to do the right thing, but I have my limits, you know? Now, Alexis killed that man, and for whatever reason -- I don't know -- but there's no way that I should have to pay for a crime that she committed. Oh, God. Listen to me. I'm resenting her already.

Jax: Maybe you should try empathizing instead. You know, you're not so different from Alexis.

Skye: Except for the fact that we are both your ex-wives, I can't think of one thing that we have in common.

Jax: You both went to boarding school. You had distant fathers. It's true that she didn't have an alcoholic mother, but she had Helena to endure, which was bad enough. And you cope by drinking. Alexis, I thought, did it by pushing herself to be brilliant. But I was wrong. She broke.

Skye: It's funny. In a strange way, I envy her. Oh, I don't mean her current situation or the murder charge or anything else Alexis is facing. I -- I just mean there are so many times that I wish I could have been a different person, so many times I wish that I could take everything that I hate about myself -- you know, the spitefulness, the insecurity, my constant aching need for a drink -- and just push them on to somebody else. Alexis became her sister. I wish I could become mine. Antoinette could be hateful. She could have been the one who lied, kept the secret about Brenda, and slept with Alcazar. Antoinette could be the reason we're divorced. And Skye -- Skye could be someone wonderful. Skye could be strong and sober, someone with enough courage to love and enough generosity to forgive, someone who might actually take the rap for Alexis. Skye could be all those things that I wanted to be if Antoinette hadn't been there tripping me up. Thank you, by the way.

Jax: You're welcome. I'm not sure what for.

Skye: Well, for not pointing out that envying a woman with dissociative identity disorder is a new low in self-pity, even for me.

Jax: I didn't hear envy. I heard compassion.

Skye: Maybe a little. So you say Alexis went to boarding school? You know, my school, we used to cover for each other -- sign in for curfew, stuff like that. I guess I could cover for Alexis for a while -- as a favor from one boarding school brat to another.

Alexis sits at the desk and looks at a photo of her sister.

Cameron: You can't prosecute Alexis for Alcazar's murder.

Scott: Watch me.

Cameron: You'd be sending her to jail for something she didn't do.

Scott: If you think I'm going to listen to you and watch my career go down the drain, (points at him) you're nuts.

Cameron: You saw the other personality emerge with your own eyes.

Scott: (Shakes his hand at Alexis) I saw someone acting like a nut case, that's all.

Cameron: Answering to the name Kristina.

Scott: I don't care whether that's Kristina, Alexis, whatever. She commit-- she confessed to murder! That's good enough for me.

Cameron: Baldwin, Kristina committed the murder. If you send Alexis to jail, the Kristina personality will emerge more and more often -- might even take over for good.

Scott: I'm sick of listening to you.

Cameron: If anything happens to Alexis, it's going to be on your head.

Alexis: He has no choice. He has to arrest me.

Alexis, in handcuffs, is lead down the hall at the hospital by Taggert and Scott. They arrive at the nurse's station where Bobbie is.

Bobbie: (To a nurse) Thank you. (She turns around shocked to see Alexis in cuffs) Hey. What's going on?

Alexis doesn't look at her.

Taggert: We need to admit Ms. Davis in a private room.

Bobbie: Alexis, are you all right?

Alexis only glances at her without speaking.

Scott: Bobbie, can we just get a room?

Bobbie looks at Taggert and Scott a little bit afraid.

Bobbie: Sure. I'll get the paperwork ready.

Scott: Thank you.

Bobbie walks away.

Alexis: Could I please see my daughter before I have to go?

Scott: You're lucky you're here. You should be at the station right now on ice or in the psych ward.

Alexis: I need to see her.

Scott: Look, the only reason why you're here is because of your shrink. He's pulling every trick in the book, and I'm well aware of that, ok?

Alexis: Scott, please.

Scott: No. We haven't got time.

Taggert: Let her see the kid. I'll be standing right there watching her.

Scott: All right.

Alexis: Thank you.

Alexis walks off with Taggert.

Still handcuffed, Alexis walks into the nursery where baby Kristina is wrapped in a pink blanket in her bed.

Taggert follows Alexis in.

Alexis peers into the bed where the baby is stretching out her arms and fussing. Alexis grabs her little hand.

Alexis: (Whispers) Hello, my love. Do you know there's nothing in this world that I wouldn't do for you? Nothing. You're my love. You're my life.

Cameron steps into the room.

Alexis: Mommy has to go away for a bit, but I'm going to be back.

Alexis: You're going to be ok.

Kristina fusses and whimpers.

Alexis: You're going to be ok, my darling.

Kristina starts to cry.

Alexis: Don't cry -

Kristina starts to sob and Alexis begins to sob along with her.

Kristina and Alexis are both sobbing. Taggert finally walks up behind Alexis and gently takes her by the arm.

Taggert: It's time to go, Ms. Davis. I'm sorry.

Taggert leads her back to the door as she sobs.

Cameron: You're not going to prison.

Alexis: (Wiping her eyes) The District Attorney doesn't see it that way.

Cameron: Alexis, you have my word. I'll do everything I can to keep you from being put behind bars.

Taggert: Let's go.

Taggert and Alexis walk out the door. Alexis leans up against the wall as Taggert signs some papers with Bobbie.

Scotty passes by them and confronts Cameron in the nursery.

Scott: Let me guess -- you're going to help her plead insanity.

Cameron: She has a serious disorder, Scott. Alexis was not herself the night she killed Alcazar.

Outside Alexis listens to their conversation.
