"Is This a Setup?"

Judge: I asked you a question, Mr. Morgan -- where's your wife?

Jason: (Sighs) Your honor, I don't -- I don't know where my wife --

Judge: Do you have any idea where your wife is?

Jason: No, sir.

Scott: Your honor, I would like a warrant issued for Brenda Barrett's arrest.

Alexis: I hardly think that's necessary, your honor.

Judge: Do you know where your client is, Ms. Davis?

Alexis: Your honor, may I approach?

Alexis leaves her desk and walks up to the judge.

(Camera switches to Sonny and Courtney. She's sitting behind Sonny and whispers to him.)

Courtney: Sonny?

Sonny: Hmm?

Courtney: I overheard A.J. talking to Coleman. They're working together to frame Jason, and I think Coleman's the one who found that bogus eyewitness.

Sonny: So that's where Ida came from.

Courtney: Coleman denied it, but I think he might've killed her. I mean, maybe she got scared and wanted to break the deal and tell the truth.

Sonny: All right, you were right in bringing this to me. I'll go ahead and take care of it from here.

Sonny sneaks a look over at Coleman sitting on the other side of the courtroom.

(Camera switches back to Alexis and Scotty in front of the judge)

Alexis: My client is committed to clearing her name in this trial. It doesn't make any sense that she's not here. There must be extraordinary circumstances.

Scott: It's a stall tactic. It's as clear as the nose on her face that Brenda Barrett ran, as she's done before.

Judge: Ms. Davis, I'm inclined to agree with the D.A.

Alexis: Your honor, all I'm asking for is that you grant me a short recess so that I can find out what happened to her.

Judge: If Mr. Baldwin is right, and you or your client are using this to deliberately delay the proceedings, I'll hold you both in contempt.

Scott: Well, I would like it officially placed on record.

Taggert walks in and everyone turns around.

Taggert: Sorry for the interruption.

Judge: I'm in conference and you're out of order.

Taggert: What I have to say may affect your conference. I've located Mrs. Brenda Barrett Morgan.

Alexis: Where is she?

Taggert: En route to General Hospital after being pulled out of the lake. She might not make it.

The camera pans across the room from Sonny to Jax to a concerned-looking Jason.

The gallery starts to mutter and the Judge pounds the gavel for order.

Judge: Order. Lieutenant, tell us what you know.

Taggert: I just got a call from dispatch. Somebody pulled Brenda Barrett out of the lake. Apparently she'd been there a long time.

Alexis: Is she alive?

Camera moves from Jason to Jax.

Taggert: Barely, but only because she was wearing a wetsuit. Paramedics are on the scene right now. That's all the information I have, your honor.

Jax gets up and rushes out of the courtroom. Sonny leans over to Carly.

Sonny: This could be retaliation for Alcazar. Somebody could've tried to kill Brenda, so I'm going to --

Carly: No, it's ok. Don't -- you don't have to explain, just go. Take care of it. I'll stay with Courtney.

He starts to get up and leans up to Jason.

Sonny: I'm headed for the hospital.

Jason: Ok. I'll be there as soon as I can.

Sonny leaves and the camera focuses back on Alexis standing in front of the judge.

Alexis: Once again, your honor, I'm going to request a recess to ascertain the condition of my client. I'm assuming by now the court will see, as well as the District Attorney, that my client's nonappearance was not an effort to stonewall or delay this court in any way.

Scott: (Walking up to Alexis smugly) That remains to be seen.

Alexis: For God's sake, surely you will agree that it's a little excessive to throw yourself into a freezing lake to avoid court.

Judge: I've heard enough. I'm granting the recess.

Alexis: Thank you, your honor. (She walks back to the defendant's desk)

Judge: Due to Mrs. Morgan's unavailability, the court will adjourn and reconvene at the earliest possible date. The attorneys will be notified as well as the jury. The same rules apply -- you are not to discuss this case with each other or anyone else. This court is adjourned.

The judge pounds the gavel.

Bailiff: All rise.

Everyone stands up. Jason covers his face with this hands, obviously worried. Scotty walks up to Alexis and Jason.

Scott: I hope this isn't a trick.

Alexis: That's your style, not mine, counselor.

Scott: We'll see.

Scotty walks away and Alexis turns to Jason.

Alexis: As her legal husband, it would be good to make an appearance at the hospital right now.

Jason: I'm on my way.

Alexis: I'll be right behind you.

Alexis leaves.

Zander makes a stoned phone call to Emily from a pay phone at Jakes. He rattles on and on about how they were. He seems to hear a man's voice on the other end of the phone and suddenly become angry, asking her if she's with her boyfriend. Emily hangs up on him and Zander starts beating on the phone. The bartender and a bystander try to stop him and Zander punches the bystander.

Brenda is rushed into the E.R. where Gia and Nikolas are already waiting. Jax goes with Brenda into an examination room. Alexis arrives and just then her cell phone rings . She pulls the phone out of her purse and hands it to Gia.

Alexis: Gia, will you get this for me?

Gia: Mm-hmm.

Alexis: Thanks. (She walks to the hospital desk.)

Gia: Hello?

Zander: Alexis?

Gia: No, this is Gia. Alexis is busy right now. Who's this?

Zander: This is Zander.

Gia: Well, we're in kind of an emergency situation, so can she call you back?

Zander: Uh, not exactly, but she can get me at the PCPD when she gets a chance.

Gia: You've been arrested.

Zander: For fatally attacking a phone. Mac's being a total jerk about it.

Gia: Ok, sit tight. I'll let her know. She'll be there as soon as she can, ok?

Gia hangs up and Alexis comes back to her.

Alexis: Who was that?

Gia: Zander -- he's in trouble.

Alexis: Again? Has he been arrested?

Gia: Mm-hmm. He assaulted a phone or something.

Alexis: Great. Listen, I don't have time to deal with that right now, obviously. If you want to go down and take care of it, that's fine. I'll get down there when I can.

Gia: I'm on it.

Alexis: Thanks.

Gia leaves just as Jason and Sonny arrive.

Jason: What's going on?

Alexis: The details are still sketchy.

Sonny: Is she all right?

Alexis: My understanding is she's unconscious. She's with Jax.

Alexis leaves.

Sonny: Ok, you're her husband. Get Jax out of there, find out what she was doing in that lake.

Jason: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Scotty walks up to them.

Scott: What are you two clowns think you're doing? Brenda's involved in a murder investigation. She's under police supervision. Yeah, get lost. You, too -- out.

Jason just stares.

Brenda hands Jax a key. She dove down to Alcazar's sunken yacht in order to get it.

At the PCPD, Mac gives Zander a choice - see a counselor or go to jail.

Jason: My wife was just fished out of the lake. She's unconscious. For all I know, she might not make it. No one's going to stop me from seeing her, especially you.

Jason walks away from Scotty toward the examination room. Alexis steps away from the nurse's desk to stop Jason.

Alexis: Wait, I need to talk to you.

Jason: What?

Alexis: Is this a setup?

Jason: Are you kidding me?

Alexis: No, I'm not kidding. Because if you and Sonny are up to something and I'm defending you, I --

Jason: Sonny and I have nothing to do with this, ok, and I can't tell you anything until I talk to Brenda.

Jason walks away.

Jax recognizes the key as one for a safety deposit box . Brenda tells Jax to go to the bank and get everything out of the box.

Zander is alone in the interrogation room waiting for a counselor to arrive. He's talking to himself angrily.

Zander: I have no use for morons who play God with people's heads, but you're my get-out-of-jail-free card, so what the hell.

Zander turns around just at Cameron walks in and freezes a moment.

Cameron: (Calmly) Alexander.

Zander: Did you set this up?

Cameron: I had no idea. Look -- I'm sorry. I'll -- I'll have you reassigned.

Cameron turns slowly to leave.

Zander: Yeah, that's it, Dad, walk away just like you always do.

Cameron stops and looks back at him.

Scotty and Alexis are back in the courtroom in from of the judge.

Alexis: Your honor, I had no idea that my client would -- would dive into a lake in the middle of January.

Judge: I have a low threshold of histrionics, ms. Davis, and no reason to postpone this trial.

Alexis: Your honor, my client obviously is feeling desperate and she wasn't thinking clearly.

Scott: Mrs. Morgan has proven herself a flight risk. She left the country knowing there was a warrant for her arrest.

Alexis: And she came right back.

Scott: She had every intention of leaving, too.

Judge: Stop the bickering, ok? Can either of you give me a sound reason why this trial should not commence?

Alexis: Your honor, I can give you two reasons. First of all, I've just taken over the case for one of my clients, and the other reason is that my other client is having a medical emergency.

Judge: And let me add, of her own making.

Alexis: Ms. Morgan's doctors will not let her enter this courtroom.

Scott: Well, now, that may not be a problem.
