"Why Are You Threatening Me?"

Alexis is looking through the window of the NICU as Dr. Novarro comes out after examining Kristina.

Dr. Novarro: Kristina is making excellent progress.

Alexis: Oh, good. How's her weight?

Dr. Novarro: Up another three ounces.

Alexis: Oh, great. How about her heartbeat?

Dr. Novarro: Well, all her vital signs are strong and steady. Her color is good and her muscle tone and reflexes are improving rapidly.

Alexis: I am so happy to hear you say that. Thank you.

Dr. Novarro: Enjoy your visit.

Alexis: Thanks.

The doctor begins to walk away when Alexis quickly speaks to stop him.

Alexis: Dr. Novarro? (He steps back to her) I have another matter that concerns my daughter's well-being.

Dr. Novarro: What's that?

Alexis: I'd like to request that Ned Ashton no longer have access to my child.

[Next scene]

Zander watches Cameron from the window at Kelly's. He knows he's seeing his father. Cameron's phone rings and he answers it.

Cameron: Yeah? What happened? Yeah, I'll hold.

As Cameron waits on the phone he turns around and looks through Kelly's window. Zander is no longer there.

Cameron: Yeah. What'd you do now? I'll be right there.

Zander reappears in the window when Cameron walks away.

[Next scene]

Sonny has called Ric to meet at the docks and accused him of killing Alcazar.

Sonny: Alcazar had you put in prison in South America. That's why you planned to kill him, right?

Ric: It's complicated. (Ric walks past Sonny embarrassed)

Sonny: You wanted revenge. So you got out of prison and you tracked Alcazar to Port Charles.

Ric: Now you're making assumptions.

Sonny: (Raising his voice) You going to deny it, Ric?

Ric: All right, I admit I followed Alcazar here.

Sonny: Then you went to his room and you shoved him off the balcony.

Ric: No.

Sonny: Then you covered your tracks by positioning yourself to defend Jason when the prime suspect --

Ric: (Interrupting angrily) All right, yes --

Sonny: Don't lie to me.

Ric: Yes, I -- I hated Luis Alcazar, all right? I wanted him dead. But somebody got to him before I did. The closest I got to him was in the alleyway outside the Port Charles hotel to look up just in time to see him fall from that balcony onto a parked car. I did not kill him.

[Next scene]

Brenda realizes the man she saw outside Alcazar's room the night of the murder was Ric.

[Next scene]

Sonny: Brenda saw a man in the hallway of the hotel the night of the murder. Was that you?

Ric: (Nodding) Yes, it was.

Sonny: You were on your way to Alcazar's room to kill him?

Ric: No, Alcazar was already dead. I saw him fall.

Sonny: Then why didn't you leave? Why did you go into the hotel?

Ric: I thought it was a good idea to maybe go into his hotel room and remove any documents --

Sonny: Well, that's pretty risky there, isn't it, Ric?

Ric: It was a chance I thought I should take.

Sonny: Well -- thin story you got there.

Ric: Come on, Sonny, it's the truth. I went up to the 14th floor and I went to the hotel suite. That's when I saw Brenda running through the corridor, panicking and hysterical. She looked like she didn't know where she was going.

Sonny: So you turned away?

Ric: I didn't want her to see me.

Sonny: You ain't said nothing to the cops.

Ric: Why would I do that? What would that achieve for either of us?

Sonny: You're not looking out for Brenda. You're out to try to save your own skin. You know why? Because you're the killer. You're the one who found Ida hanged in her room. You paid her to lie, say she saw Brenda, and then you killed her off to lock her testimony.

Ric: Ok, so why would I stick around town, huh? Why wouldn't I just cut my losses and just leave? Why would I come to you and try to get a job?

Sonny: Because you wanted to get close enough to Jason to frame him.

Ric: Oh, come on, Sonny.

Sonny: You wanted to work me. It didn't work. Then you try to work my wife! Get her to trust you, impress her with your legal skills. I don't care about that stuff.

Ric: All right, fine, fine, you're so convinced, you turn me in. Do it. But I'll tell you something -- you do that and you're going to be the one who puts the final nail in Brenda's coffin.

[Next scene]

Zander stands outside Kelly's and remembers back to the day his brother died. He remembers seeing him on the ground covered in blood with his father hovering over him.

Zander: Dad, I don't know what happened.

Cameron stands up and walks toward Zander.

Cameron: You killed him. (Grabbing holding of his shoulders and yelling) You killed your own brother!

A friend rouses Zander from his daydream as he walks up to him.

Man: Hey, Zander. What's up? Oh, you still pretending you don't know your friends from your dealing days?

Zander: No, I remember. There's just a couple things I wish I could forget.

Showing Zander a packet of pills.

Man: You need a ticket to oblivion, I'm your man.

[Next scene]

Cameron walks up to Alexis outside the NICU.

Cameron: Could you explain your rationale for shutting off Ned's visitation rights to his child?

Alexis: I thought that I already had. Checking up on me, I see, huh?

Cameron: A colleague told me about it.

Alexis: Cameron, I should never have discussed this with you in the first place. It's between Ned and me.

Cameron: Alexis, there are fathers out there who want nothing to do with their children. If you shut Ned off from his daughter --

Alexis: (Whispering loudly) Ned is not Kristina's father, ok? (She walks to the NICU window)

Cameron: Alexis, this has nothing to do with biology, and you know it.

Alexis: (Walking back toward him) Why is this so hard for everyone to understand?

Cameron: You're ignoring what's best for her. You're so wrapped up in your own agenda that you've thrown reality out the window.

She quickly looks around before she speaks.

Alexis: Are you going to talk to me now about reality?

Cameron: Ned is the baby's father. If you come between him and Kristina now, you'll create a rift that will only grow worse with time.

Alexis: (Slowly and pointedly) Cameron, your feeling that you were a failure with your children is not the issue here. What happened with you and your sons is an entirely different matter.

Cameron: Don't be so sure.

He walks away and Alexis sighs.

[Next scene]

Faith goes to the penthouse and tells Carly that she heard the sound of water coming from her club. She taunts her with stories about the club being cursed. Then Carly gets a call that a pipe has burst in Kelly's basement. Carly blames Faith.

[Next scene]

Ned arrives at the nurses' station.

Ned: Hey. How's my beautiful little girl? How did her weekly checkup go?

Nurse: Very well, Mr. Ashton.

Ned: Good. Listen, if anyone needs me, I'm going to be with Kristina for the next hour or so, ok?

He starts to walk back to NICU when the nurse stops him.

Nurse: Um, you can't go back there.

Ned: What are you talking about? I thought that she's doing well.

Nurse: She is. Uh, but you're not allowed to visit her.

Ned: What?

Nurse: I'm sorry, the doctor gave specific orders.

Ned: Is Alexis in I.C.U. right now?

Nurse: Yeah.

Ned: Ok, good, you tell her that I need to speak to her right now. You tell her that it involves the youngest member of the Corinthos family.

[Next scene]

Ric: Ida was a suicide and I didn't kill Alcazar. There's no forensic evidence linking me to the crime.

Sonny: That's because you know how to cover your tracks.

Ric: No, I told you before, see, I was in the alleyway. I looked up, I saw him fall from the rail.

Sonny: You want evidence? I got witnesses who will testify you and Alcazar were enemies.

Ric: Ok. All right. But even if you can connect me to Alcazar, can you prove that I saw him in Port Charles? (Sonny doesn't say anything) Can you prove that I was at the hotel suite? I wasn't. But see now, Brenda, that's a different story. See, Brenda's already admitted that she tried to kill Alcazar with a knife. I mean, her fingerprints
are all over the weapon.

Sonny: No, she admitted stabbing him, not killing him.

Ric: No, no, there are two eyewitnesses on record saying that she killed Alcazar.

Sonny: They lied. (He walks away from Ric)

Ric: Well, Sonny, you know, it's their word against hers. You know, who do you think the jury's going to believe? Now, I doubt you want to be the one to make her case any worse.

Sonny: Brenda's innocent because I'm looking right at the killer.

Ric: Ok, you know what, let me put it in terms maybe that you'll understand. If you go to the police and you tell them that I was at Alcazar's hotel that night, I'm going to be forced to testify that I saw Brenda running through that corridor all panicky and hysterical and Jason leading her out of the hotel. See, I'm the eyewitness that can prove the D.A.'s theory of a murder conspiracy. My testimony could convict both Jason and Brenda.

Sonny: Ok, let me put this in a way that maybe you can understand. It would be very, very unwise for you to testify against Jason and Brenda.

Ric: I'll be fine as long as you and Brenda reciprocate. Now, look, I haven't gone to the cops yet and I don't plan to. I don't want to cause any trouble.

Sonny: I don't want you to come near me or my family again. As far as Carly, you cut off all ties you have with her. It's done, ok?

Sonny walks away.

Ric: You're making a mistake.

Sonny turns around.

Sonny: (Pointing at Ric) No, the mistake is you should've run when you had the chance.

Sonny leaves.

[Next scene]

Gia is massaging Nikolas' back.

Gia: Any better?

Nikolas: Yeah. Sorry that I jumped on you.

Gia: No, I should've seen that you were upset.

Nikolas: Yeah, well, that doesn't mean that I should take it out on you. Ok?

Gia: My stuff is all over the place.

Nikolas: Yeah, well, I agree, and that can be a little annoying at times.

Gia: Well, I could work at the library from now on.

Nikolas: No. Please, no. I would barely see you, like I do now, ok?

Gia: Well, then we're going to need another maid because obviously Mrs. Lansbury's falling down on the job.

Nikolas: Ok.

Gia: Look, about the hospital -- I don't know what's going on, but I'm sure Alexis didn't mean to keep you away from Kristina.

Nikolas: How would I know that? You know, I mean, I barely recognize Alexis anymore. She's so erratic with her pregnancy, this trial. I mean, I've never seen her like this.

Gia: I think Alexis is overcompensating.

Nikolas: For what?

Gia: Maybe it's because she had a baby with her sister's boyfriend or maybe because she never backed off work when she knew she was putting her baby at risk. Anyone would crack under that kind of pressure.

Nikolas: I know, it's just that she doesn't have to do it alone, ok?

Gia: Well, for whatever reason, Alexis isn't all that receptive to getting help, including mine.

Nikolas: So it's been that bad, really?

Gia: Let's just put it this way -- I could do without the short temper and the demanding voicemail.

Nikolas: All right, so let me ask you something -- why are you sticking around?

Gia: She needs help. I'm available.

Nikolas: No, I think it's more than that. It's because she's my family and you're doing this because of me.

[Next scene]

Alexis walks up the hall toward Ned near the nurses' station.

Alexis: I got your message.

She start walking up the hall.

Ned: Good. So, you're cutting me off from seeing Kristina because you saw me with another woman?

They stop walking.

Alexis: That's hardly the problem.

Ned: Then what's the problem?

Alexis: Ned, you and I need to take a step back from this and assess what's going on here.

Ned: I know what's going on. Kristina is my daughter. I plan to be a part of her life.

Alexis: (Slowly as if to explain to a child) Ned, she is not your daughter.

Ned: (Sighs and shakes his head) Don't start in on this again, please, I beg you.

Alexis: When you stepped up and told Sonny that you were the father of the baby, I thought that was incredibly noble and incredibly rash, and I told you so at the time.

Ned: Until you realized it was your only chance of keeping the truth from Sonny.

Alexis: I didn't feel like I had any other choice at the time.

Ned: You went right along with it, Alexis, right down to my name on the birth certificate.

Alexis: I wish I had thought about the long-term repercussions.

She begins to walk away but he grabs her arm and she turns back.

Ned: Wait a minute. So what are you saying? You now see me as an unfit father?

Alexis: I didn't at the time, but now there are other factors.

Ned: Such as?

Alexis: Such as what appeared to be a legal threat in the form of trying to pay Kristina's medical records. (He sighs) And then, of course, it's your choice in women.

Ned: What do you care what women I see? We're hardly in a relationship.

Alexis: You're dating a mobster's widow.

Ned: Oh, hardly dating.

Alexis: Everything that you and I have done has been to keep Kristina from having any connection to organized crime --

Ned: Give me an ounce of credit here, ok?

Alexis: And you're sleeping with Faith Rosco?

Ned: I know how to separate my personal life from my (shaking his finger) duties as a father, all right?

Alexis: Another factor -- your motive in all this, your motive in persisting in this, Ned. You're a bachelor. You have places to go, people to see. Doesn't a child complicate your life?

Ned: Kristina is hardly a complication. I love that child and I plan to be a part of her life. And I know you may not believe this, but my feelings for this little girl have nothing to do with you.

Alexis: Ned, I'm the reason that you claimed to be her father in the first place.

Ned: Yes. That's true. You're right. And I did have a fleeting idea that you and I might be able to work things out, but you straightened me out on that a few months ago and I am past that.

Alexis: I'm concerned about your motives.

Ned: No, that child is my daughter and I love her. And if you're saying that I am not the father, then you must be saying that Sonny is. And I may just have to let him know.

[Next scene]

Alexis: I should've spoken with you before cutting off your visitation.

Ned: You can't keep me from seeing Kristina.

Alexis: Apparently not. (She pauses) Why are you doing this? Why are you trying to force your way into the life of a child that isn't even yours?

Ned: Kristina is mine in every way that matters. I was with you throughout your pregnancy. I was there for the miracle of her birth. I've sat with her every day since. She's named after your sister, a woman I loved and who died because of our secret.

Alexis: Which is why I've tried to protect her all the more.

Ned: And I feel exactly the same way.

Alexis: Then why are you threatening me?

Ned: Because you're threatening me. I only have Kristina's best interests at heart.

Alexis: It seems otherwise.

Ned: Because of Faith?

Alexis: (Becoming a little emotional) Because you're scaring me. I know in my heart, Ned, that you would never intentionally do anything to hurt me or the baby because you and I have a past and I thought we were friends.

Ned: So where does that leave us?

Alexis: I'm not sure.

Ned: You have to accept that I am going to be a part of Kristina's life.

Alexis: You've made that very clear. I just -- I just want to be logical about this.

Ned: Ok, well, let's be logical. If Sonny ever found out that he was the biological father, you know he would stop at nothing to gain sole custody. He would threaten you, bully you, sue you, bribe you. He would even kidnap her. You know that, don't you?

Alexis: (She nods timidly) Yes.

Ned: Well, all I'm asking for is reasonable visitation. I love this girl. I'll never hurt her or bring violence into her life. So what do you say? Who do you want to be Kristina's father, me or Sonny?

[Next scene]

Ned is in the NICU holding Kristina. Alexis stands behind him watching very closely.

Ned: Your daddy's here. Here I am. I love you. I love you so much. I'm going to watch over you and I'm going to protect you. And I will never, ever, ever let you down.

[Next scene]

Zander gets high and goes to Faith's hotel room.

Faith: Well, if it isn't Ned's little errand boy.

He leans against the door with a lascivious look on his face.

Zander: Not tonight.

Faith: Is there something you want?

Zander: What if I want you?
