"Pompous,
Condescending Misogynist"
Brenda:
He's still standing behind the planter. (She remembers walking
through the hallway and seeing the man by the planter) I'm --
I'm back in, but I have to go around the corner so he doesn't see
me.
Cameron:
What
happens next?
Ric
heaves a nervous sigh in the viewing room as he listens through
the intercom.
Brenda:
I'm going to try -- I'm going to try to look at him again.
Cameron:
Try to recall as much detail as you can.
Brenda:
Yeah, he's -- he's still there. He's -- I don't know what he's doing.
He's doing something. His coat's unbuttoned. He's --
Ric
is just about jumping out of his shoes in the viewing room.
Cameron:
Can you see his face yet?
Brenda:
Wait, he's -- he's --
Ric
barges in.
Ric:
All right, that's it. That's it. That's enough. (Alexis and Jax
stand up) This stops now.
Ric:
This is completely out of line. Why wasn't I informed that Brenda
was going to be hypnotized without her husband, who happens to be
the co-defendant, present in the room?
Jax:
Because Brenda was ready.
Ric:
Excuse me, Mr. Jacks. Unless you've passed the bar since the
last time we spoke, I would appreciate it if you'd stay out of this.
(To Alexis) And you should have never allowed this without
advising me first. Now I want this session stopped immediately.
Jax:
Say whatever you want. We're not stopping the session.
Alexis:
He's right. We are legally violating Jason's right by doing this.
Jax:
Yeah? What about Brenda's rights? Huh? She saw someone else
in the hall. That might have been the real killer. She might even
be able to identify him. What's wrong with letting her try? You
know, perhaps the man in the overcoat isn't your client. Perhaps
this session can put Jason in the clear. Now, I know you're upset
and your objection is noted, but since you're here, why don't you
sit down and see if what Brenda remembers might help everyone involved.
Alexis:
I really wish that you would, and I didn't mean to exclude you.
This just happened very quickly, and for the record, Jason was in
the room when the decision was made. He was fully supportive of
it.
Ric:
All right, all right. Just anything that's mentioned about Jason,
I want it off the record.
Alexis
nods to Cameron to continue.
Cameron:
How are you doing? Are you feeling all right?
Brenda:
(Nodding) Mm-hmm.
Cameron:
Do you remember where we left off?
Brenda:
I'm looking -- I'm looking at that man. (She remembers the empty
hallway) He's gone. (She lifts up her arm) Someone's
grabbing me. (Ric listens intently. Brenda pauses and then laughs)
It's Jason.
Cameron:
Did he come from the direction of Alcazar's room?
Brenda:
No. He came from the other way. He's showing me where the stairwell
is. He's yanking me down the stairs.
Cameron:
Nice work, Brenda. Now, when I count three, you'll wake up and you'll
remember everything you just saw. Ready? (Ric watches nervously)
One, two, three.
Brenda
slowly opens her eyes and wipes away a tear.
Brenda:
There was someone else there in the hall.
Jax:
Yeah. Now, are you positive that you didn't see his face?
Zander
walks into Kelly's as Ned is about to leave.
Ned:
Hey,
Zander, I was about to leave you a message.
Zander:
What's up?
Ned:
I need you to pick up an envelope at the office and drop it off
with Alexis. Now, if she isn't at the courthouse, she's probably
at the hospital visiting Kristina.
Zander:
Do I have time to pick up my order?
Ned:
Yeah, of course you do. You know what? As long as you're here,
I want you to go downstairs and check out the basement. Carly is
opening her new club down there.
Zander:
In Kelly's basement?
Ned:
Yeah. Yeah, whatever you're thinking, I guarantee that's not it.
Zander:
Well, that sounds mysterious.
Ned:
Check it out. I'm interested in your take.
Zander:
Mine? Why?
Ned:
Sonny is Carly's sole investor. Depending on how successful this
club is, he either stands to make a lot of money or lose a lot of
money, and I'd prefer that he lose a lot of money, so check it out.
Zander:
Yeah.
Alexis
walks back into the therapy room where Cameron is filling out some
paperwork alone.
Alexis:
It would be helpful for me if you could write a summary documenting
today's session.
Cameron:
Consider it done.
Alexis:
And I'll need to call you as a potential expert witness.
Cameron:
You mean as it regards this session or will I be expected to declare
Brenda insane after all?
Alexis
turns serious.
Alexis:
May I ask you something? In your professional opinion, is it conceivable
for someone of a reasonably sound mind to just snap?
Cameron:
Situations arise where the pain is so pervasive, so absolute that
your response defies labels. You take action in the moment. And
then you spend the rest of your life wishing you could take that
moment back.
Alexis:
Is that what happened to you when your son died?
Ric
goes back to the hotel and starts looking around in the hallway
by Alcazar's room. He looks on the floor for something and then
leans down by the planter. He roots around the dirt in the planter
and comes up with a button.
Alexis:
I thought a lot about what you told me about your sons. I was wondering,
did you ever try to find your youngest?
Cameron:
Oh, I hired a detective, but Alexander had vanished without a trace.
He went underground or wherever kids go when they don't want their
parents to find them. Eventually, I gave up.
Alexis:
You don't seem like a quitter.
Cameron:
Oh, what was I supposed to do, drag him back to the wreckage that
had become my life? (He steps away from her toward a bookcase
as he speaks) My marriage was over, my precious medical practice,
which at one time seemed more important than everything, now seemed
absolutely pointless. The best I could do was put one foot in front
of the other and try to get to the end of the day.
Alexis:
How long did that last?
Cameron:
Too long. Finally, I couldn't stand myself. I wanted to make my
life mean something again, so I -- I went back to school, did my
residency in psychiatry.
Alexis:
Then you moved to a town where you figured your son wouldn't
be able to find you?
Cameron:
Well, actually, my parents were from Port Charles. I used to bring
the boys here when they were younger.
Alexis:
(Walking toward him) I am very sorry for you. I can imagine
how painful it is to be separated from your child.
Cameron:
Say that again.
Alexis:
Why?
You heard me.
Cameron:
No, but it just for a moment sounded like you were acknowledging
the fact that a father could love his children, too.
Alexis:
I never said that he couldn't. And, see, now you've done it again.
You've just turned it around --
Cameron:
First, you arbitrarily denied the biological father any contact.
Alexis:
I arbitrarily? It was the hardest decision of my life. And if you
knew who the biological father was, you would be endorsing it, believe
me.
Cameron:
(Walking away from her) Then you do everything you can to
keep her legal father -- a stable, loving man who clearly wants
to be a part of Kristina's life --
Alexis:
I hardly think it's stable to drop your pants in the middle of winter
in public.
Cameron:
Oh, big deal. You're just using that as an excuse to keep Kristina
away from Ned. God forbid you should accept help from somebody who
cares about you.
Alexis:
I have a tremendous amount of compassion for what you went through
with your family.
He
shifts his weight readying himself for her verbal onslaught.
Alexis:
But it still does not change the fact that I find you obnoxious,
opinionated, and the least empathetic shrink that I've had the misfortune
of meeting. And if I didn't need your testimony desperately, I would
feel compelled to have your license revoked for egregious incompetence.
She
nods her head and tilts it satisfied with her characterization.
Zander
arrives at the hospital with an envelope. He goes to a nurse at
the nurse's station.
Zander:
I got a package for Alexis Davis. They told me in neonatal she was
down here.
Nurse:
One of the conference rooms was booked. Maybe ms. Davis is in
there. Ah, down the hall and to your right.
Zander:
(Motions
with his hand) That hall?
Nurse:
Yeah.
Zander:
Thank you. Thanks a lot.
Cameron:
You know, not only are you a case study in neurosis, denial,
and every repressed emotion known to science, but you are hiding
under a frankly rather passé feminist dogma to keep from
dealing with your fear of commitment.
Alexis:
And you are a pompous, condescending misogynist who has absolutely
no business commenting on any aspect of my personal life. (Leaning
in smugly) Licensed or not, you are clearly unqualified.
Cameron:
Well, you can dish it out, but you sure can't -- etc., Etc.
Alexis:
(She holds her hand out in front of him to stop him) All
right. Just write me a report on Brenda's session, bill me for it,
and that's pretty much all I have to say to you.
She
grabs her briefcase off the floor and sets it on the desk. Cameron
grabs at portfolio sitting under the briefcase and yanks it out
from under it - tipping Alexis' briefcase over.
Cameron:
(Walking toward the door) Retreating into work, hiding behind
a professional facade -- you know, for such an intelligent woman,
you are jaw-droppingly predictable. (He walks out)
Alexis:
Good-bye, Dr. Lewis.
She
pauses to shake her head and the opens up her briefcase.
Alexis:
(Muttering under her breath) Pompous jerk. (As she grabs
a piece of paper out of her briefcase she gets a papercut and
) Ow! (Slamming the paper on the briefcase) Shoot! Damn!
Ow! Ow! (She sucks on her finger) Ow. (Grabbing at her
papers again) It's his fault.
A
hand touches her shoulder and she raises her arms in frustration.
Alexis:
Will you leave me alone?
She
turns to see Zander standing there smiling.
Zander:
Whoa,
hey, no problem.
Alexis:
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I thought you were someone else.
Zander:
Ned asked me to bring you this.
He
hands her the envelope and she opens it up. She freezes after scanning
its contents.
Alexis:
I don't believe this.
Zander:
Is everything ok?
Alexis:
No, it isn't. Ned has gone too far.
Alexis
goes to Faith's hotel room and knocks on the door.
Faith
answers it surprised.
Alexis:
Hello. My name is Alexis Davis.
Faith:
Yes, I know. I recognize you from your campaign posters.
Alexis:
I
realize this is highly irregular, but may I please come in?
Faith:
Of course.
Alexis
walks in.
Faith:
What brings you here? (Closes the door)
Alexis:
I need to speak to you about Ned Ashton.
Faith:
Well,
you have amazing timing.
Ned
walks out of the bathroom dressed only in a towel.
Ned:
Hey, Faith, can you fix me one of those killer - (He sees Alexis)
martinis?
Alexis
slowly turns her head and looks at Ned.
Carly
stumbles across Ric burning his trench coat in the incinerator under
Kelly's.
