"Wrong Place at the Wrong Time with the Wrong Man"

Taggert tells Gia that Scotty knows about the tape and she should hand it over for her own good. She hands it over to Taggert.

Carly is listening in on a conversation between Alexis and Jax in the hallway at the courthouse.

Jax: Look, Baldwin is after Jason, not Brenda.

Alexis: I know you're in love with Brenda and I know that you would do anything to get her out of this, but I don't have that much time to get this case together, so --

Jax: All right, you just make the jury believe that Jason killed Alcazar, not Brenda.

Alexis: Brenda will not go to jail for killing Alcazar, all right? Now let me do my job.

Jax: Well, see that you do.

Alexis: I'm not just talking to you as an attorney, I'm talking to you as a friend.

Jax: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Just things have been a little tense lately, you know?

Alexis: Well, we all are.

Jax: I really appreciate what you're doing.

Alexis: You don't have anything to worry about, all right?

Jax: Thanks.

Jax leaves and Alexis walks into the courtroom. She sits down at the defense table and starts to write on a legal pad. Just then Carly walks in. She marches up to Alexis and grabs the legal pad out from her under hand.

Carly: There is no way in hell you're going to frame Jason.

Alexis continues to sit at the desk without looking up at Carly.

Carly: You will not sacrifice Jason for Brenda. Are we clear?

Alexis: (Standing up and speaking quietly) May I please have my notepad back?

Carly: Jason did not kill anyone.

Alexis: Jason never does.

Carly: And what is that supposed to mean?

Alexis: My obligation is to my client, it is not to Jason Morgan. You will have to speak to Jason Morgan's --

Carly: Oh, you and Jax are so smug and self-righteous. You think you can get away with anything.

Alexis: Carly, I have a lot of work to do.

Carly: Oh, that's right -- you have to work on framing Jason. Yeah, I heard every word. I heard Jax tell you to get Brenda acquitted by making Jason look guilty, and I am here to tell you that is not going to happen.

Alexis: This conversation is over.

Carly: Oh, why, because you say so?

Alexis: That's enough, Carly.

Carly: Oh, I don't think so.

Carly slaps Alexis. Alexis turns her head back slowly and straightens her hair. She doesn't look at Carly.

Carly: Now you pay attention. If you frame Jason, try and throw this case, I will completely dismantle your life, and Sonny will not lift a finger to help you because he despises you. You do anything to Jason, and Sonny's going to hate you more than I do

Carly slams the notepad on the desk and stomps off. Alexis stands motionless and stunned.

Alexis is in the courtroom alone. She walks to the jury box looking at notes she's written on a legal pad.

Alexis: "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you will hear a lot about my client, Brenda Barrett --" Brenda Morgan. "You will hear a lot about my client, Brenda. (She writes on the pad) Her life may be perceived as glamorous, dangerous, even tragic, but the fact of the matter is that she's not any different than you and me." That's (stabs the paper with her pencil in frustration) -- that's terrible. It's patronizing

Alexis puts down the pencil and stares into the jury box. She takes a deep breath and speaks to herself.

Alexis: It's -- the fact is -- is that she's -- she's just a human being and she got caught up in circumstances that were beyond her control. She found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong man.

We hear clapping as if someone is in a tunnel. Alexis turns and sees her sister Kristina dressed in white and lit with a bright light.

Kristina: That was very good.

Alexis: (Smiling) Thank you.

Kristina: But a complete waste of time.

Alexis: The opening argument is critical to my defense.

Kristina: Defense? Defense of who? Alexis, you just let Carly slap you and get away with it. You let Sonny kill me. Who exactly are you trying to defend here?

Alexis: I have to go through the proper legal channels.

Kristina: Did the proper legal channels help me when I was trapped inside that warehouse dying?

Alexis stares at her with a look that says, "I'm sorry."

Kristina: Why shouldn't Sonny have to pay for everything that he's done? Look at how many lives he's destroyed. And you just know that he would steal your baby if he ever found out the truth. Go after Jason. Use him to get to Sonny. Do it now, Alexis.

We now see Alexis sitting at the defense table asleep on the pad of paper in front of her.

A hand touches her shoulder and she is startled awake gasping. She turns around quickly.

Cameron: What exactly are you trying to prove?

Carly storms into the penthouse and throws her purse on the desk in anger as Sonny walks down the stairs.

Sonny: Hey, hey! You all right?

Carly: No, I'm not, because Alexis is trying to frame Jason.

Sonny: How do you know this?

Carly: Because I overheard Jax asking her to do it, and she didn't exactly say no. And you know what? If she does this and if she sells Jason out, Jason will go to prison and Brenda --

Sonny: No, nobody's going to prison. Jason and Brenda are not going to let Alexis pit them against each other.

Carly: Well, maybe Jason won't --

Sonny: I'm taking care of it.

Carly: How, Sonny?

Sonny: I got to go to South America tonight. I think one of Alcazar's people killed him and I got to check it out. (He walks toward the couch and Carly follows)

Carly: Ok, why do you think this all of a sudden?

Sonny: The eyewitness turned up dead. It was a very professional job. Alcazar has a lot of enemies. I think one of his associates killed him and Ida so she wouldn't change her story.

Carly: You're going to jump bail to do this?

Sonny: That's right.

Carly: Sonny, I don't want you to do this.

Scotty is looking at Gia's tape with Taggert.

Ida's voice: Brenda Barrett killed Luis Alcazar, and that's all she wrote.

He turns off the tape and puts it in his desk drawer.

Scott: Your sister did us a big favor making this tape.

Taggert: That tape was obtained under false pretenses. You said so yourself.

Scott: Well, I was mistaken, Taggert. This is better than the statement she gave to the police.

Taggert: You don't care that Ida Warren's dead, do you?

Scott: Of course I do. I'm human. But, you know, she was very high-strung, like an old retired whippet. You know, maybe she had medical problems.

Jax appears in the doorway and listens as he ducks out of sight.

Taggert: What if it wasn't a suicide?

Scott: It was, all right? And it's a tragedy because we probably don't even need her testimony. We got enough to Brenda away for life!

Jax: (Walking in) Well, I'm glad to see that you're being objective about all this.

Scott: Hey, next time, knock, all right? We're just building a case.

Jax: I need to speak with you.

Scott: You're among friends.

Jax: Privately.

Scott: Taggert, give us a minute.

Taggert walks out and Jax shuts the door behind him.

Jax: Is there any chance that you can (sits down) convict Morgan without hurting Brenda?

Scott: Not unless she testifies against Morgan.

Jax: What about the evidence?

Scott: Well, he's a professional hit man. They wear gloves.

Jax: And how -- how difficult would it be to frame Jason?

Scott: (Seeming very interested) Well, now, that depends.

Jax: All right, let me put it to you another way. You frame Jason, let Brenda go free, and I' make it worth your while.

Scotty says he can't frame Jason because it's too close to the court date and the judge would get suspicious - ruining his career. Scotty says he thinks Brenda did it anyway. Scotty suggested that Brenda could plead insanity.

Alexis fusses with her papers at the desk.

Alexis: I have a case to prepare.

Cameron: So you're falling asleep in the courtroom?

Alexis: (Standing up) Cameron, why are you here?

Cameron: You're way too involved in your work.

Alexis: This coming from a man who was out on a ledge with Luke Spencer.

Cameron: Why you pushing so hard? You're not the only lawyer in town, Alexis.

Alexis: Because Jax is my best friend and he's built his whole life around Brenda and I'm trying to help her for him.

Cameron: If that's your only reason, you must have no life at all.

Alexis: And you do? You can't account for the last four years of yours.

Jax: (Walking in) Excuse me, are you Dr. Lewis?

Cameron: Who wants to know?

Alexis: Yes, he is.

Jax: I'm Jasper Jacks. I want you to prove that Brenda Barrett is crazy.

Zander and Ned are meeting on the docks.

Ned: No acting on impulse. And no settling old scores.

Zander: I understand.

Ned: You have to be very careful. The goal is to win. You have to have a cool head and plan carefully.

Zander: Hey, I'm going to do whatever you tell me, no going off on my own.

Ned shakes his hand.

Ned: Maybe Emily wasn't so wrong about you after all.

Zander: (Sighs a chuckle) Yeah, right.

Zander walks away. Ned stands there smugly waiting.

Ned: (Calling out) I don't have all night!

Faith pokes her head around the corner and then walks out of the shadows.

Faith: How did you know I was here?

Ned: You ask too many questions.

Faith: (Walking up to him) I don't like your little errand boy.

Ned: So?

Faith: So, he knows too much. I want him out.

Ned: It's not your call.

Faith: Why, because you fronted the cash?

Ned: That's right.

Faith: What about me? A woman taking on Corinthos in his own territory? That's --

Ned grabs her face and kisses her.

Ned: We're in this together. And we're going to win big.

Alexis: We never discussed an insanity plea.

Jax: We are now.

Alexis: Where did you come up with an idea like this?

Jax: It was Baldwin's idea.

Cameron: The D.A.?

Jax: Yeah. It makes sense. Brenda's acquitted, Jason goes to prison for murder.

Cameron: (To Alexis) Are you in the habit of letting Baldwin organize your defenses?

Alexis: If Brenda pleads insanity, she'll have to admit that she killed Alcazar. Is that what you want?

Jax: But she didn't know what she was doing, did she, and now she can't remember.

Alexis: This is a very hard thing to sell to a jury, and what if they don't buy it? You know what happens?

Jax: Yes, she goes to prison for murder one.

Alexis: That's right.

Jax: (To Cameron) Brenda has a history of mental illness. She was once admitted to a hospital for a nervous breakdown. Now, I want you to prove that she was insane at the time of the murder. You'll be extremely well-compensated.

Alexis: You just bribed him. What are you doing?

Jax: You want Brenda to go to jail? Is that what you want? You want her to end up on death row, Alexis? I'm trying to save her life here.

Cameron: I'll do an evaluation, but I'm not making any promises. And I won't accept any money. (Looks at Alexis)

Jax: Thank you. Can you make this work in court?

Alexis: Does Brenda know about this?

Jax: No, I haven't told her yet.

Alexis: Well, then tell her, and I suggest you give her a lot of time to think about it. (Cameron looks at Alexis) And then you let me know what she says and we'll take it from there.

Ned strolls along the dock looking out over the water.

Ned: My family's done business on these docks for years. (Points across the water) That sea crane, ridiculous as it looks, belongs to the Quartermaines. We run ships through here -- and have to pay Corinthos every time we unload. (He turns to Faith) We've been wanting to develop these docks for a long time, and Corinthos is always in the way.

Faith: We'll change all that.

Ned: If you think you're up to it.

Faith: Are you?

Ned grabs her and starts kissing her. He backs her up against a piling.

Faith: Here?

They kiss more heavily now. Alexis appears at the top of the step.

She sees Ned and a blonde woman groping at each other against the piling.

A look of shock crosses her face.

Jason is at Sonny's penthouse waiting for him. Sonny comes down the stairs.

Sonny: Jason.

Jason stands up as Sonny walks around to him with an overnight bag in hand.

Sonny: You need to keep an eye on Alexis.

Jason: Ok.

Sonny: Carly overheard Jax ask her to throw the whole case just so you could take the blame.

Jason: Oh, that figures.

Sonny: Yeah.

Jason: That's not going to happen.

Sonny: Well, as long as Brenda doesn't panic.

Jason: Well, she will panic and do something stupid, but she won't testify against me.

Sonny: Ok, find out what you can about Ida.

Jason: Yeah. The cops are crawling all over her place, but I'll stay on that. Does Brenda know you're leaving?

Sonny: Yeah, I told her. I know you think it's a bad idea.

Jason: Well, just, you know, she could tell Jax, and that guy loves to talk.

Sonny: She's not going to tell Jax. You trust her in your way, I'll trust her in mine. Take care of her, keep her calm. She needs to lean on you, not me, if you know what I mean.

Jason: I understand.

Sonny: Carly's scared for you, scared for me. Now we got to be careful with that because if she does something crazy to try to help --

Jason: No, no, I'll make sure -- I'll make sure she's ok.

Sonny: All right, the car's waiting downstairs.

Jason: All right.

Sonny: And I'm going to go through the kitchen, all right?

Jason: Watch your back.

Sonny: Always. With any luck, I'll be able to prove who killed Alcazar.

Sonny turns and leaves.

Brenda is alone at Jason's penthouse when there's a knock at the door. She looks through the peephole and seems annoyed about who she sees. She opens the door for Jax.

Brenda: You shouldn't be here, and I don't want to fight you again.

Jax: I know, I know, I don't want to fight, either, but I think I may have found a way out of this. I want you to meet someone. (Motions to Cameron outside the door) Come on in.

Brenda: Oh.

Jax: This is Cameron Lewis. Brenda Barrett.

Brenda: Hi.

Cameron: How do you do?

Brenda: Uh -- you're bringing in another lawyer?

Cameron: No, I'm a psychiatrist.

Jax: He's going to declare you insane.
