"It's All Going to be OK"

(Sonny and Alexis are in his bed, having just made love. Carly is at the door, horrified. She steps back into the hall and listens to them)

Alexis: Do you remember when you saved my life?

Sonny: Yeah.

Alexis: I remember kneeling beside you in the snow, thinking how furious I would be if you died.

Sonny: I'm glad I didn't. Think of all I would've missed.

(Sonny sighs contently and Alexis kisses his shoulder. Carly takes off running down the stairs. She drops the birthday card from Michael to Sonny on the floor. The card lands on the floor near the couch)

Alexis: (looking like she’s grasping for something to talk about) And what ballet did you see?

Sonny: (laughs) What?

Alexis: When you took your mother to Carnegie Hall. Do you remember?

Sonny: Um -- "Romeo and Juliet."

Alexis: Well, that's perfect.

Sonny: What does that mean?

Alexis: It's a metaphor for your life, I think. "Romeo and Juliet" -- beautiful and sad.

Sonny: They won in the end.

Alexis: They died.

Sonny: Yeah, but on their terms -- not because somebody told them what to do.

[Knock on door]

Sonny: Uh -- I got to -- I got to get that, so you going to be all right?

Alexis: Yeah. Yes, I'll be fine.

Sonny: All right.

(Sonny leaves the bed and Alexis watches him go)

Sonny: Benny should know better than to send this over in the middle of the night. Could've waited till tomorrow morning. You know what? I'll talk to him. Thanks for coming by.

Max: About the contract on A.J. Quartermaine --

Sonny: It's been canceled.

Max: There could be a problem.

Sonny: What's the problem?

Sonny: The contractors got their money. Why should they care if I canceled the job? They should be out of the country by now.

Max: They are.

Sonny: Then I don't see what the difficulty is.

Max: People knew they were in town and why.

Sonny: People have been discussing my -- my personal concerns?

Max: Look, everyone knows what happened to your sister.

Sonny: Yeah.

Max: Everyone assumed that you would take care of it. And then you didn't.

Sonny: You know what, Max? You're an excellent bodyguard.

Max: Thank you.

Sonny: But you're not very good at communication. Let me understand what you're saying here. People inside my organization are questioning my decision to leave A.J. alone. They see that as a weakness because I canceled the contract. And they think that weakness will extend into other areas and that eventually I could be vulnerable to hostility from the competition.

Max: That's it.

Sonny: A.J. is a personal problem that will be dealt with eventually in the way I want to deal with it. That has nothing to do with business. Everybody knows how I reward loyalty and how I deal with people who become a liability. That has not changed. So if people want to discuss something, they can discuss that. Do we understand each other?

Max: Yes, sir.

Sonny: OK. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. If you hear about anything else, be sure to tell me.

Max: I will.

Sonny: All right. Max -- no one touches A.J. Quartermaine for any reason. He is my sister's husband now, so he is mine to deal with in my time and in my own way.

(Max leaves)

(Sonny walks back into the bedroom. He stands and gazes at Alexis asleep in his bed and then sits down in the chair next to the bed. He simply watches Alexis sleeping)

(Sonny is still sitting in the chair, watching Alexis sleep. Then he gets up, takes his robe off, and climbs back into bed)

Sonny: (whispers in her ear, waking her) Hey. You OK?

Alexis: (smiles contentedly) I'm OK.

Sonny: This is what you thought would wreck things between us?

Alexis: Yeah.

Sonny: It's all going to be ok. Don't worry about it.

(Alexis looks at him, smiling. He gives her a huge smile in return. They snuggle together in the spoon position, and drift off to sleep)
