"No Need For You To Interceed"

(Sonny is holding A.J. over the balcony. Courtney is screaming next to him, while Alexis is also there)

Courtney: He’s my husband! Did you hear me? We’re married!

Alexis: Sonny, calm down and let him go!

Courtney: Sonny, he didn’t hurt me. You’d be killing my husband!

A.J.: You kill me, you make your sister a widow. Is that what you want? Do you?

(Sonny gives A.J. a murderous glare)

A.J.: Look, I know you hate me, ok, but you love Courtney. I love her, too. I’ve proven it, haven’t I, the only way a man can. All I want is for her to happy. Isn’t that what you want? Look, you thought that I’d break her heart. I didn’t, Sonny. I married her. What more can I do, man?

Courtney: Please, everything he says is true. A.J. has made me happier than I have ever been in my entire life. Don’t make me hate you. Don’t hurt me by hurting my husband! Is that what you want? Don’t do this Sonny. Please, you’re my brother, don’t do this. (Sonny lets A.J. go) Oh, god. (A.J. takes Courtney in his arms)

(Skye and Jax barge in)

Skye: Hey, you stay away from my brother. Don’t you touch him. What did he do to you? (to A.J.) You all right?

A.J.: (to Courtney) Are you ok?

Courtney: Are you?

A.J.: Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. (hugs Courtney) Oh.

(Skye looks at the happy couple in disbelief)

A.J.: We’re married, ok? Courtney is my wife. (to Courtney) It’s ok.

Skye: A.J. I need to speak with you.

A.J.: Skye, whatever you have to say, just say it, ok? I’m not going to hide anything from my wife.

Skye: I really doubt that you want your wife hearing what I have to say. I need to speak with you alone.

(Sonny is looking over the edge of the balcony. He is alone until Alexis joins him)

Alexis: This so-called marriage has a 0% chance of succeeding, and as soon as Courtney figures that out, I will be there to help her get out of it. She’s young. She made a mistake. I understand that you’re filled with rage, but you need to put this into perspective. It isn’t the end of the world.

Sonny: Do you not understand that A.J. just opened the trapdoor to Hell and by the time this is over, somebody’s going to be shoved in?

Sonny: I remember when my mom married Deke. He wore his uniform from the police department. White gloves, badge, everything. He smiled through the whole ceremony. So did my mother. I was happy. What did I know? Sun was shining, I was ring-bearer, and finally somebody to take care of my mother. She had this light in her face, her smile was beautiful, you know, and Deke just slapped that right off her. Not overnight. You know, he kept up the act for a little while. A week, a month, maybe two. And he started to growl. This voice came out – you know, came out of him we never knew he had. He’d get this – this look on his face and he’d rake us over with a couple of words, you know. And then if you blinked, it was, you know, back to normal, like you’d think, was that just my imagination? Pretty soon the dark face was the only one he had. The other one was a mask he was wearing, and it slipped and it slipped until it slipped off.

Alexis: You know, A.J. has a lot of flaws but there is no indication that he’s ever been physically abusive.

Sonny: Yeah, but, you know, there are many ways to abuse someone. I mean, you know, A.J. can kill Courtney’s smile little by little. He can destroy who she is, her hope, her self-respect. She can lose little by little everyday. I saw – I saw it happen to my mother. Deke would do it to my mother. You want to destroy a woman, you marry her first. You chain those vows around her heart, you lock her up with “better or for worse.” And then you can make her life a living hell. By marrying Courtney, A.J. convinced her that he loves her. She does not get that he’s wearing a mask, and she’s not going to until that mask starts to slip – and it will. You and I both know he is not in love with Courtney, Alexis, he is in hate with me.

Alexis: She’ll end it. I promise you Courtney will end it.

Sonny: After she’s lost how much? And I’m supposed to stand by and wait for that to happen, just watch and see what he does to her? How come I can’t just end it first?

Alexis: Courtney apparently wants this marriage so how do you plan to end it, Sonny? She’s a grown woman, and she evidently doesn’t like it when you try to boss her around. So, if she realizes that A.J. is a jerk I’m sure she will –

Sonny: When.

Alexis: When she realizes that A.J. is a jerk, she will leave him. So there’s really no need for you to intercede. In fact, I think it would be a mistake.

Sonny: Thanks. I need some time just alone to think, you know, think about what I got to do.

(Alexis nods and leaves Sonny on the terrace)

(A.J. comes out to talk to Sonny on the terrace)

A.J.: Bad night, huh? I can relate. I’ve had plenty. But I can – I can change things. Want to hear my proposal? You want your sister back, don’t you? I’ll go in there right now and end the marriage in exchange for my son. It’s a simple trade, Sonny – your sister for my son.
