"You've Earned My Trust and I Never Thought That Would Happen"

(Alexis and Sonny are in her apartment. Both have a cup and saucer in their hands)

Alexis: Did you make this in my kitchen?

Sonny: Somebody bought you a new expresso machine instead of that piece of junk you used to have.

Alexis: Kristina bought a new one. (They both sit down on her couch) And if you tell her I said this, I’m going to deny it, but you make better cappuccino than she does.

Sonny: Mrs. Cerullo taught me.

Alexis: Ned’s former mother-in-law?

Sonny: Yeah, she taught me how to cook too.

Alexis: See, that’s the thing – you need to be taught how to cook. You need to be conditioned to use the machinery.

Sonny: A stove?

Alexis: No, the ingredients and the gadgets. And if you do it right, you make a mess. If you don’t do it right, like I don’t do it right, you create smoke. (Sonny is staring intently at Alexis by this time) I didn’t have a kitchen, obviously, where I grew up, and I certainly didn’t have one in boarding school, so it was the first time that I really ever saw a kitchen when I got my own apartment. Why are you staring at me like that?

Sonny: Well, I’m just thinking that (pause) you’re the only person I can trust. (Alexis takes a sip) It’s the truth. I mean, you’re the only person I can completely trust.

Alexis: Thank you.

Sonny: I mean, there are things I don’t discuss. You know, you can’t tell somebody too much because then, you know – I don’t know – you end up getting hurt or they do or – (sighs and gets up form the couch and walks over to Alexis’ desk) Oh, man. I got a piece of advice once. They said the only way you can stay alive is if you count on – don’t count on anybody but yourself.

Alexis: Yeah. (Gets up and walks around to the side of the couch and leans on the arm of the couch with her arms crossed) See, I know what you mean about that.

Sonny: (walks back towards Alexis) Right, but there are exceptions to the rule. I mean, you have stood by me, time and time again. You – you – you tell me the truth whether I like it or not. Your instincts are good and your advice is sound.

Alexis: Well, thanks for letting me know.

Sonny: And I got to tell you, you’ve earned my trust and I never thought that that would – you know, that would happen

Alexis: I’m glad.

Sonny: I mean it.

Alexis: I feel the same way about you. I mean, I think that we have a – we’ve grown to have a (pause) unique relationship. (Sonny nods his head) And I – I hope that we always have that.

Sonny: So do I.

Alexis: (picks up her cappuccino) This is cold, I think. (places cup on her desk)

Sonny: Well, I’ll make you another one.

Alexis: No, no, no, no, that’s ok.

Sonny: Alexis, I don’t want anything to get in the way of what we got going here. You know what I’m saying?

Alexis: Why would it?

Sonny: So what was – why you all – (knock on door) What’s bothering you? (Sonny is referring to Alexis getting all flustered)

Alexis: I’m not – I –

Sonny: Get the --

Alexis: The door.

Sonny: Right. (It is Jax)

Jax: Thought I might find you here. We have something to discuss. (enters Alexis’ place)

Sonny: Jax, can we do it later?

Jax: I’ll make it brief. You owe me a favor, so I’m here to collect.

Sonny: I owe you nothing.

Jax: I got Skye to drop the kidnapping accusations against both you and Carly.

Sonny: Maybe she decided it was unwise to pursue it, Jax.

Jax: No, believe me, she wanted to see you punished.

Sonny: Skye has no evidence!

Jax: She would have lied in a heartbeat if I hadn’t stopped her. Now, given your history and Carly’s, who do you think the D.A. would have believed?

Sonny: What do you want, Jax?

Jax: I want you to show some restraint.

Sonny: Don’t I always?

Jax: Now, there’s a small chance that you might find Courtney and A.J. before I do. And if that’s the case, I want you to guarantee me that A.J. will be safe.

Sonny: I already made Skye that offer. She turned me down.

Jax: Ok, I’m not making myself clear. This is not a request.

Sonny: First of all, you’re not in a position to make demands and you don’t tell me how to deal with my family.

Jax: I want your word that A.J. will be safe.

Sonny: Is Courtney going to be safe with A.J.? He’s using her, lying to her. He’s going to have to deal with the consequences.

Alexis: There are no – what consequences? There will be no consequences. (to Jax) Why are you here? Don’t get involved.

Sonny: Isn’t it obvious? Skye Quatermaine tells him to jump, he jumps. Doesn’t matter that everything that comes out of her mouth is a lie.

Jax: Look, Skye doesn’t want her brother hurt, and neither do I.

Sonny: She had a choice, and she passed.

Jax: Skye doesn’t know where her brother is.

Sonny: Oh right, right, right, yeah.

Jax: Look, I’m going to say this one more time – you stay away from A.J.

Sonny: If you hadn’t wasted my time, you know, getting me arrested for charges you knew wouldn’t stick, I’d be with my sister right now.

Jax: Yeah, facing a murder rap.

Sonny: Ok, you know what? That’s the end of discussion. I’ll do what I want with A.J.

Jax: Not if I find him first.

Sonny: Leave this alone, Jax.

Jax: Your solution’s unacceptable.

Sonny: Have I ever asked for your opinion?

Jax: I should’ve known better than to bargain with a man like you. I won’t make that mistake again.

Alexis: Jax, this isn’t even your problem. Why are you involved?

Jax: Now, I doubt even an attorney of your caliber will be able to convince a jury that Sonny’s innocent when they find A.J. dead. Not that I would object to seeing Sonny in prison for the rest of his life. But I really don’t want to take Skye to her brother’s funeral.

Sonny: I want my sister safe, that’s all.

Jax: You know, you’re part of the reason she left in the first place. She told me herself that night I caught her in A.J.’s apartment. She said she wanted to get away from you.

Sonny: A.J.’s working her, Jax. Can you understand that?

Jax: You know, maybe Courtney’s perceptive enough to realize that you’re a nightmare waiting to happen. So what if you’re Courtney’s brother? You still have to earn her trust and loyalty, and so far you’ve done the exact opposite. In fact, you know what? You would be the last person she would listen to, especially if you’ve got your hands around A.J.’s throat.

Sonny: A.J. is using Courtney. He wants revenge against me. That’s what this whole thing is about. Do you even know what A.J. has done to her, what he may be doing to her right now? Can you stand there and honestly say to me that she will not be hurt physically and emotionally when she comes back?

Jax: No.

Sonny: Then stop making demands and don’t get in my way on this again!

(Jax leaves. Sonny gives Alexis a long look)

Sonny: Thanks for standing by me.

Alexis: I’ll always stand by you doing anything legal.

Sonny: Well, who said I was doing anything illegal?

Alexis: Which is why I’m standing by you.

Sonny: I should probably give you a raise.

Alexis: Money can’t buy trust.

Sonny: I mean, you know – you know how I feel about you, and you make it easy. Talking to Jax is like hitting a brick wall.

Alexis: Ah – you’re talking about my friend. Maybe we should go to sleep and talk about it tomorrow.

Sonny: All right. (He goes to the door, opens it, walks through it, and then turns around again to say something to Alexis) You know, Jax is a friend of yours.

Alexis: Uh-huh.

Sonny: He respects you.

Alexis: Yeah, what’s your point?

Sonny: Well, I got a general idea where A.J.’s holding out, and I’m not going to stop this time. So if Jax keeps pursuing it then – it’s not a good thing. (leaves)

(Alexis says nothing and shuts the door)
