"Consolation Prize"
(Sonny
and Alexis are in the hallway between their apartments )
Sonny:
Can we take this inside at least?
Alexis:
There is not a lot to discuss.
Sonny:
Can I open the door for you?
(Alexis
tosses Sonny the keys)
Sonny:
(struggling with the lock on her door) You know what? I can
see where this could get annoying. I will have it replaced first
thing in the morning.
(They
enter her apartment)
Alexis:
I'm still moving out.
Sonny:
Is there something else wrong with your apartment or --
Alexis:
No, the apartment's great.
Sonny:
Do you need bigger office space?
Alexis:
No.
Sonny:
Then why?
Alexis:
Because I need a change.
Sonny:
It's about you and me, isn't it?
Alexis:
Where I live has nothing to do with you. (she places her scarf,
coat, and bag on the couch) I never intended to stay here forever.
Sonny:
Why not?
Alexis:
Well, because you've given me a very good deal on this place
for a very long time and I need a better tax write-off.
Sonny:
Ok. You want me to raise the rent?
Alexis:
No. I mean, yeah -- I mean, not on my behalf. I mean, Courtney,
when she comes back here -- and she will -- will probably want this
place to herself. I mean, who knows?
Sonny:
Well, I wouldn't know.
Alexis:
I filed those motions for the condemnation order, and Jax still
thinks you're threatening Skye.
Sonny:
Well, that's nonsense and you know it.
Alexis:
Well, in any case, we have a lot going on, both of us, and there'll
be no better time, so Im thinking I should just move now.
Sonny:
Where will you go?
Alexis:
(grasping for an answer) Wyndemere. (sits down on
the couch) Nikolas wants Kristina and I to move in, and there's
certainly enough room there for us. Give us a chance to spend more
time together.
Sonny:
Ahem. (sits down next to her on the couch) Alexis, where
are you planning to live?
Alexis:
Wyndemere! I just said Wyndemere! You have a problem with Wyndemere?
Sonny:
Yeah. The grill doesn't deliver to Spoon Island, the place reminds
you of Chloe, and you've been trying your whole life to get away
from the Cassadines. So what are you -- what are you talking about?
Alexis:
You're just upset because you're not going to have me around 24/7
-- as your attorney, Im talking about.
Sonny:
Oh, so you want me to give you more regular working hours?
Alexis:
Yes.
Sonny:
Oh.
Alexis:
(talking with her hands the whole while) No. No, that doesn't
have anything to do with this at all. You know, Ned told me not
to live here in the first place -- not that this has anything to
do with Ned. And, you know, running into your bodyguards all the
time isn't exactly a selling point.
(They
both get up off of the couch)
Sonny:
You know what? Let's be honest here. You know what this is about?
It's about what Kristina told me.
Alexis:
What did Kristina say, exactly?
Alexis:
Kristina likes to make everything perfect, you know? You're a lot
alike in that regard. What exactly did she say to you?
Sonny:
Well, she just said she -- you know, she's afraid that Im
going to hurt you.
Alexis:
So is everyone else in this town. You havent. You wont.
Sonny:
Are you sure about that?
Alexis:
We slammed a couple of doors.
Sonny:
Right.
Alexis:
It's not a big deal. I'm over it.
Sonny:
Mike says I push people away.
Alexis:
Well, you have, in a sense, devoted your life to throwing him out
of your apartment.
Sonny:
Carly, my sister. Have I pushed you away?
Alexis:
I just need a new place. I need a new experience.
Sonny:
If you're upset about the gardenias, just --
Alexis:
No, I --
Sonny:
I will make sure that Carly stays away.
Alexis:
Carly -- listen -- your relationship with Carly, aside from the
divorce settlement, is none of my business. (walks over to her
desk and begins fiddling with some papers there)
Sonny:
That's probably true.
Alexis:
You know, she'll probably always drive you crazy.
Sonny:
Yeah? Well, maybe I don't need it anymore. (long pause. Alexis
looks over at him) I used to think living alone, being alone,
was the price Id pay for this life and the things that I do.
I believed that my life was too dangerous to let anybody in.
Alexis:
Maybe it is.
Sonny:
Yeah, well, but here we are just the same. And I don't know how
it happened. It just happened, you know? So -- you're kind of --
you're kind of all I have left.
Alexis:
So, that makes me, what, your consolation
prize?
Sonny:
I didn't say that.
Alexis:
I don't have the time, nor am I interested in being, a substitute
for everyone who's walked away from you.
Alexis:
So, when all else fails, you call your good pal Alexis, instant
attorney across the hall?
Sonny:
That is not what I mean
Alexis:
You're not the only one with abandonment issues. You're not the
only one who can't get close to people. Do you know that I hitched
a semi at my own wedding?
Sonny:
Well, isn't that what you're doing now? (long pause)
Alexis:
No, I'm just making a point.
Sonny:
I need you in my life.
Alexis:
I'm not quitting as your attorney.
Sonny:
And I'm not -- Im not talking about as my lawyer.
Alexis:
What are you talking about?
Sonny:
You have a place in my life. Look, I know that I assume a lot and
I take advantage of you living here. And I'll back off. If you want
me to back off, I'll back off. Whatever you want, just tell me what
it is.
Alexis:
I appreciate that.
Sonny:
I trust you.
Alexis:
And that costs me. Do you understand that?
Sonny:
Well, maybe it's too much. Look, you know, I'm not saying that you're
wrong because you want to move out of here. I'm just saying that
if I lose you, then, you know if I push you away, it costs
me, too, ok? Maybe more than I thought.
(They
look at each other for a long while)
Sonny:
I'm not saying that it's fair or that I'm right.
Alexis:
Fine. In any case, Im moving out.
Sonny:
You sure that's what you want?
[Knock
on door]
(Janine
lets herself in, uninvited)
Alexis:
Excuse me.
Janine:
I found Courtney.
