The Resolution
by LexCorinthos

January

I, Alexis Davis, am giving up bad boys.

It was the first thing she ever wrote in the journal that Sam gave her for Christmas-a New Year's resolution of sorts. After Jerry skipped town and all his nefarious deeds came to light she decided that she was officially done with riff raff. 2009 would be the year of the good guy.

February

Valentine's Day is for losers.

She should have known that going out with Garrett Floyd was a mistake … she should have clarified that good guy meant no sleazy politicians that copped feels on the dance floor of The Haunted Star. The slap on the face and Jax ushering him out of the casino crossed him off the short list.

March

Green beer tastes even worse then regular colored beer.

Cruz Rodriguez is one gorgeous hunk of tanned man and, as Diane so tactfully pointed out, she was sure he could satisfy every carnal need Alexis had ever had … it's too bad he couldn't stroke the mental ones at the same time. The date was fun … for a college coed, but something undeniable was missing … and it was apparent when he said that his favorite band was Audioslave. She could only smile and say that it sounded nice.

April

Am I a magnet for sociopaths?

Only she would get hit on by a Russian mobster at an Easter service at St. Timothy's. The truth was that it was the most stimulating conversation she'd had with a man in months ... but Andrei Karpov was exactly the type of man she gravitated to … and was attempting to avoid. A polite thanks, but no thanks and a quick detour was all he received in return.

May

Do all men have a blonde harpy ex?

There are few things that are worse then having a bad date … but one of those things is having a date ruined by a shrieking blonde woman. Dr. Julian held so much promise … until his ex-girlfriend caused a scene at the Metro Court restaurant … Alexis couldn't ignore the irony of the blonde hair.

June

I am becoming a lesbian.

July

Happy Birthday America … I will probably make it to your age and still not have had sex.

August

Having a mobster's child does not bode well when dating a police officer.

Two dates with Detective Harper … and then his sudden realization that Kristina Corinthos-Davis is the first daughter of Sonny Corinthos. Suddenly the date became about how a woman like Alexis Davis could sleep with a mobster … followed by three beers to drown the sorrow. He didn't call back.

September

I hear California is great this time of year.

October

Mac Scorpio

She cringed when she walked into Luke's and realized that her daughter had set her up with Mac Scorpio … until they started talking, and suddenly Claude was sweeping and Luke was throwing them out. It had been a long time since she had someone to talk to … someone to make her laugh. Mac Scorpio was a bit of a revelation outside the PCPD … and Alexis wondered how for so long she had ignored how gorgeous he was.

His favorite band is Genesis

Ribs at Eli's, discussing Peter Gabriel versus Phil Collins. It's almost too normal and she kind of wonders when the other foot is going to fall … when he is going to realize that she is faking her way through the normal thing. He doesn't seem to care that her last name is Cassadine, although he did admit that Robert asked him if he was sure this wasn't a Cassadine plot to ruin the Scorpio name … he knew her sins, all her grievous mistakes … and she wonders if it was the raising of three girls that did wonders for his patience.

Halloween candy makes first kisses sweeter

A grown woman shouldn't consider giving out candy to trick o' treaters as a date … and they shouldn't get so excited about a first kiss that they can't think straight. She was too busy smiling to care.

November

Kristina hates any man that isn't a dimpled mobster who makes Belgium waffles.

She announced as much the first time she met Mac at the carnival. Two jumbo teddy bears, cotton candy, and popcorn later, and she was just as smitten as her mother.

Maxie hates any woman that may possibly, one day, hurt her father.

Sunday dinner … it was very American, complete with the teenage daughter scowling at her over the table. Spinelli was there, acting as a buffer and trying to extol the virtues of The Goddess Mother. That didn't seem to endear her to Alexis. Neither did Robin's light chit chat or Patrick's surgical ramblings to ease the tension. In the end it wasn't as bad as expected … she wasn't wearing any food, or anticipating bruises, and no one was knifed before dessert … it turned out better then any Cassadine dinner.

In this for the long haul

They were the words she told Maxie in the coffee shop. The younger girl just matched her gaze and said, "Don't hurt him." Alexis didn't need to explain that the thought of hurting Mac might actually cause her physical pain. She cared for him now … it wasn't something she did easily, letting someone in … but it seemed easy with him … because he seemed to know that, as tough as her exterior was … her heart was a different story.

So much to be thankful for

Thanksgiving … real Thanksgiving … turkey, cranberries, in a home … with a man who didn't blow stuff up or hold people at gun point. She didn't think she could like normal this much.

December

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Eid al-Adha, etc.

The year of the good guy … and there was no one better then Mac Scorpio. She sometimes wondered how in the world she didn't notice him before … and he wondered how in the world he'd never noticed her. Maybe they could chalk it up as the fates aligning … Alexis Davis, the reformed bad boy lover, and Mac Scorpio, the reformed bad boy.
