Part 14

Lucky Spencer would not have to tell the police anything about Kristina’s kidnapping. The police already knew.

Marcus Taggert drew back from his crouched position by the front window of Luke’s place frowning in disbelief. There had been too many surprises tonight. First that Corinthos had had a fling with the lovely Ms. Davis. Second that they’d had a kid unbeknownst to anyone in town. Next that the kid had been abducted by none other than Helena Cassadine and—big surprise—no one involved was calling the cops. No, they called Lucas Lorenzo Spencer instead. And finally it surprised the hell out of Taggert that this team of quasi-investigators was actually doing a pretty damn good job of looking into the crime.

Marcus loved the force and he believed in it above all else. But he was also a realist. He knew that they had botched numerous attempts to bring Helena Cassadine to justice. The woman had poisoned and nearly killed Dr. Tony Jones’ son, and she had never answered for that. She had stolen a year of Lucky Spencer’s life and nearly killed the boy’s parents by making them believe he was dead. Most cruelly, Taggert noted, the woman was said to have been responsible for murdering Alexis’ mother right in front of Alexis. That was just a portion of her crimes. Now in the ultimate act of torture the woman had taken Alexis’ only child.

Taggert happened to like Alexis Davis. But then most of the men at the station, including Mac, admired the attorney. As much for her prowess in court as for that lovely face and those gloriously long legs. Not one of them would wish this hell on her.

Sonny Corinthos was a different story. That this would bring pain to him might have made some people at the station happy. Hell, Taggert thought, it might have made me happy once. But Marcus found no joy in this now. Scott Baldwin would likely deem it a great bargaining chip; he’d use it to make Sonny give up information on the local syndicates in exchange for help getting his daughter back. But that would further endanger Kristina; Marcus couldn’t take that chance with the life of an innocent child…no matter who she belonged to. So for once Taggert was prepared to overlook procedure for the greater good.

Meanwhile he had an idea that just might help find this child.

Carly had paced a path into the carpet of her bedroom. Angrily she glanced at the clock on her bedside table. Four A.M. And there was no sign of Sonny or Johnny.

A big emergency. Sonny was unavailable for a while. That was all she, his wife, had been privy to. And the message hadn’t even come from Sonny himself. Johnny had delivered it.

Then she’d followed Johnny and had seen the man bring Sonny’s clothes out to the island where Alexis lived. This right after her husband had “renewed his friendship” with the lawyer at Kelly’s Diner. Carly had imploded.

So it was happening again. The two of them were doing that thing they did, shutting the rest of the world out in favor of each other. Well, she wasn’t going to stand by and take it like she had before. Going meekly to the bedroom when Sonny needed to consult Alexis. Being the decoration on his arm but never the woman who could really share his confidences like Ms. Davis did. Acting as his trophy and not his equal.

He’d accused Carly of a preoccupation with Lorenzo Alcazar. Well, at least Lorenzo paid attention to her…to her thoughts and her insights. He pursued her. He coveted her company. He accepted that she wasn’t always honorable…that she took crazy risks to get what she wanted. He appreciated who she really was. She couldn’t remember a time when Sonny had.

Her anger boiled over as she watched the clock inch towards 5 A.M without her husband by her side. And to know he was with that whore, Alexis, was more than she could take. Decisively, Carly reached for her phone. She wasn’t going to let them spend this night uninterrupted.
