chapter 27 - Into the Home Stretch

Sonny sat at his desk in his warehouse. It was Friday morning and all he could do was think about Alexis.

After their little argument the week before he had been really worried. He didn't want their relationship to start deteriorating because they had introduced sex into it. He leaned back in his chair and thought about a couple of days after the argument when Alexis had called him.

"Hey," came her soft voice over the phone.

Sonny closed his eyes at the sound of it. "Hey yourself," he replied.

"I'm sorry about the other day."

"Me too."

"I realize it must be frustrating to you . . . but the truth is it’s just as frustrating for me. I mean you're not exactly Mr. Open when we broach the subject of feelings."

"I know."

"Do you remember that you told me once that you weren't ready to deal with it yet?"

"I do . . . I know." He cleared his throat. "Maybe it's time we did talk about it . . . I think we need to."

"I agree."

"You do?"

"Yes, I do."

"Do you want to have dinner or something?"

"Actually, I had something else in mind."

"Like what?"

He heard her chuckle on the other end of the phone. "Do you have any plans this weekend?"

He thought for a moment. "None that I can think of."

"Good. Don't make any."

He smiled as he heard the playful tone that had been missing lately, creep back into her voice. "All right, I won't. Why?"

"You'll receive instructions . . . you'll just have to be patient."

"All right . . . I'll wait for my instructions."

"Good boy. I have to go."

"All right . . . hey Lex?"

"Yes?"

"I hate it when we fight."

"Me too . . . so don't make me mad anymore."

"Right counselor, right."

"Goodbye Sonny."

The Alexis Davis that he had come to know was certainly turning out to be more than he had bargained for. He had always thought she was an attractive woman, and then as he got to know her, he found her sexy. He found himself noticing things about her that he hadn't before. He found himself thinking about her legs and how they looked when she wore one of her skirts, he thought of her business suits and the inexplicable way that when she wore them it drove him crazy. And now that he and Alexis were intimate . . . his mind barely let go of thoughts of how she looked naked. Who would have known that the buttoned up, no nonsense, workaholic attorney that he had taken on over two years ago would turn out to be such a sexual tigress in the bedroom?

His thoughts were shattered when Johnny opened his office door. "Boss?"

Sonny waved him in. "Yeah, come in."

Johnny held out a lavender envelope to him. "This just came for you."

Sonny's heart started to pump wildly knowing it was from her, but he played it cool. "Yeah, okay. Just put it there on the desk." He flicked his head and turned toward his computer.

He waited until he heard Johnny leave the office and shut the door before whirling around in his chair to grab the envelope. He brought it up to his face and inhaled. It smelled like her perfume. He tore it open.

Sonny,

Have your limo take you to New York City tonight and be at the Plaza Hotel at promptly five o'clock P.M., the Presidential Suite. The front desk will have a key for you.

Pack for the weekend, casual attire with the exception of one suit.

See you soon,

A

Sonny smiled and glanced at his watch. It was eleven o'clock in the morning. He craned his neck. "Oh man, it's going to be a long day," he said out loud to himself as he wondered what exactly Alexis Davis had in store for him.

Alexis walked down the steps to her living room glancing at her watch. It was three-thirty and she had to get moving if she was going to get to New York and set everything in motion before Sonny got there. She looked at Kristina who was settled on the couch, watching her with a smile on her face.

Alexis shook her head. "You know, ever since you caught me and Sonny in bed you've had that stupid grin on your face."

Kristina laughed. "Sorry. I'll try and grimace more."

Alexis nodded. "Thank you."

Kristina rose and walked over to Alexis' desk. "Are you ready to do this?"

Alexis stopped wading through papers on her desk and looked at Kristina. "No."

Kristina smiled. "You'll be just fine."

"What if he doesn't . . . respond well."

"He will."

"How do you know that?"

"I know."

Alexis heaved a sigh and closed her briefcase before tucking it under the desk. "I can't believe I'm doing this."

"I can't believe it either."

Alexis cocked an eyebrow. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Kristina giggled. "It means that what you are about to do is very, very un-Alexis-like . . . but I do think that it's incredibly romantic of you and I'm impressed."

Alexis walked over to the closet and pulled out her coat. She picked up her over night bag and swung it over her shoulder before turning back to Kristina. "Wish me luck."

Kristina rushed forward and grabbed Alexis in a hug. "You won't need it. Have fun."

Alexis started for the door and stopped, turning around and leaning against it. "I can't do this."

Kristina walked towards her. "Yes you can."

Alexis dropped her bag and held up her hands. "I can see it now. Sonny, I've whisked you away for a weekend in New York so I can tell you I'm in love with you." She turned her head to Kristina. "And I can see him standing there with that blank look on his face not quite sure how he's going to get out of this one."

Kristina reached down and picked up Alexis' bag, placing the strap back onto her shoulder. "Alexis, I may be lacking in a lot of areas of expertise, but the one thing I'm impeccable at is reading people. That man looks at you like he loves you, he acts like he loves you . . . trust me on this." She took Alexis' hand, pulling her away from the door and opening it. "Now go," she said, giving her sister a little shove out into the hallway.

Alexis sighed and headed for the elevator and what could either be the most perfect weekend of her life . . . or the biggest disaster.
