chapter 14 - Seven Ten Split

Sonny rambled around his penthouse aimlessly. It was Sunday...it was noon, and he hadn't heard from Alexis. This thought didn't worry him per say, but truth be told, he was starting to think he needed Alexis more than just once a week. He was starting to think about her, specifically, about her naked, more and more during the week, anticipating the moment when Sunday would come and she would be with him. It wasn't just the sex he needed either, he needed her. It was getting harder and harder to concentrate when they conducted business during the week. He would find himself watching her every move. The way she tilted her head when she was reading a contract. The way she crossed her legs, the way she chewed on her lip when she was concentrating. And she would catch him staring at her and she would flash him this playful smile, shake her head and go back to what she was doing and it made him crazy.

He shook his own head as he realized what a sap he was becoming because of a woman. Not just because of a woman but because of this woman. His best friend. He marveled at how someone could be so brilliant, cut throat and business savvy and be so damn sexy at the same time. He glanced at his door several times and finally made the decision to go over to her place. He didn't care anymore if she knew he was anxious to see her.

He made the short trek across the hall and knocked on the door. Much to his chagrin Kristina answered it. As had become routine, she gave him that goofy grin of hers. "Why hello there Sonny. What can I do for you?"

Sonny sighed. "Is Alexis around?"

Kristina nodded and hoisted her purse up onto her shoulder. "She's upstairs getting dressed. Go ahead in and wait, I was just heading out to meet Ned." She opened the door and let Sonny pass through before exiting. "Have a pleasant day," she called out.

Sonny looked over his shoulder at her. "Yeah...thanks...you too I guess."

She giggled and started to shut the door. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do."

Sonny shook his head and turned to her. "Don't worry, we weren't planning on sitting quietly keeping our mouths shut, minding our own business," he retorted with a phony smile.

Kristina stuck her tongue out at him and shut the door.

Sonny moved to the couch and was about to sit down when Alexis came rushing down the stairs, digging through her briefcase that hung over her shoulder. She stopped at the bottom of the stairs and looked at him. "Oh, hey...I was just going to knock on your door."

Sonny took in the business suit she was wearing and raised an eyebrow. "You're a little overdressed for sports today aren't you?"

She shook her head and moved to her desk, rummaging through drawers. "Actually, I got a call this morning from an out of town client. He's going to be here this afternoon for one day and we need to review some things before he leaves."

Sonny tried to hide his disappointment. "I hope you're going to charge him double for a Sunday."

Alexis snapped her head up. "You know very well I charge triple for Sundays."

"Ah, yes, I do seem to remember that," Sonny smiled as he rubbed his jaw.

"Good, here it is," she said, pulling a file off of her desk and stuffing it into her briefcase. She stopped, let out a puff of air and looked around the room. "Okay, I think I have everything," she turned to him. "Sonny, listen, I'm running late...I'll have to take a rain check on the sports okay?"

Sonny moved to her desk and leaned on it, absently picking up a paperweight and turning it over in his hands. He shrugged. "Yeah, whatever. That's fine...I mean, you know..." he stopped at the sound of her laughter. "What?"

Alexis mimicked him. "Whatever...you know." She smiled. "You're pouting Mr. Corinthos."

"I don't pout."

"Right, just like you don't brood."

"I don't brood."

"Uh huh," she grabbed her coat out of the closet. "I don't know how long I'll be."

Sonny stood up straight and headed for the door. "Maybe...you know...we could...I could make dinner later."

Alexis shook her head as she opened her door and waited for him to pass her before she exited herself. "I honestly think that I'm going to be a while, so don't wait for me to eat," she walked to the elevator and punched the down button.

Sonny looked like a wounded puppy. "Okay...well...I'll see you whenever then," he mumbled as he headed for his apartment.

The elevator doors opened and Alexis stepped in. "Hey Sonny?"

"Yeah."

"Maybe I'll stop by for dessert," she winked and caught sight of the dimples before the elevator doors closed.

Sonny sat slumped on his couch, one hand propping his head up on the arm, the other clutching the remote control, aimlessly skimming through channels. Every once in a while he would find himself stealing a glance at the door, willing her to knock on it. He looked at his watch it was ten-thirty. He stood up and walked to the bar, pouring himself a scotch. "How long does it take to review something?" he muttered to himself. He walked to the door and opened it, finding Johnny at his usual post. "She come back yet?"

Johnny shook his head. "Not yet boss," Johnny replied with a smug look on his face.

"What are you grinning at?" Sonny asked crankily.

Johnny wiped the smile off of his face as his boss shut the door.

Sonny sat back down on the couch and grabbed the remote, surfing channels again. "There's not even a decent sport on at this time," he muttered. He was about to call it a night when his phone rang. He rushed to answer it.

"Yeah."

"Still can't say hello," came Alexis' soft voice.

"Hello."

"I didn't wake you did I?"

"No, it's not that late. I was just watching television."

"Let me guess...something sporty."

"I'm an addict...so sue me."

"Don't put ideas in my head."

"Late meeting," Sonny said matter of factly.

"Unbelievably so...not to mention frustrating."

"Wanna come over and tell me about it? Maybe have a night cap?"

"A night cap huh."

"That was the offer."

"I won't be interrupting your sports viewing?"

"Well, a little, but come over anyway," Sonny said trying to sound bored.

"You sound crabby, but...I'll be over as soon as I change clothes." Ten minutes later Alexis walked into Sonny's place wearing a sweat suit. Sonny was over at the window staring out.

"You in a better mood?" she asked playfully.

He nodded and walked to the bar, pouring them both a drink. "Actually I am." He smiled and moved to her, handing her a glass.

She sniffed it. "Rum?"

Sonny nodded and they both moved to the couch. "You know, you kind of spoiled my day," Sonny said as they relaxed into the cushions.

"I did?" Alexis replied raising an eyebrow. "And how did I do that?"

Sonny shrugged. "I was bored. I need routine in my life. You and I have a routine...you broke that routine."

Alexis pursed her lips. "Oh, poor baby. You should have had my day. Let me tell you business men can be extremely irritating," she froze for a second and rolled her eyes. "Look who I'm telling that to."

Sonny patted his lap and Alexis lifted her legs, settling her feet on his thighs. He absently picked up one of her feet and began rubbing it. "That bad?"

Alexis nodded, taking a sip of her drink. "That bad." She glanced over toward the television and began to laugh out loud.

Sonny's brow crinkled in confusion. "What?"

"You must have been bored," she guffawed.

"Why do you say that?"

She gestured at the television. "You're watching bowling. This is the sport you said I'd be interrupting?"

Sonny stopped his ministrations of her left foot and moved to her right. "Hey..." he smiled. "I happen to care an awful lot about bowling."

Alexis chuckled some more. "I see. And I'm supposed to be all enthralled with learning about bowling why again?"

Sonny sat forward in his seat and turned his body towards her. "See, once again, you rush to hasty judgement. When you first met me...you didn't like me..."

"That's putting it mildly," Alexis quipped.

"But...when you got to know me...you found I was irresistible."

Alexis sat up. "Did you say irritable?"

Sonny wrapped his arm around her neck and pulled her in for a noogie. "Very funny," he said as he pulled away, leaving his arm draped across her shoulders. "Bowling, while appearing to be boring or mindless to some is really kind of smart."

"Smart?"

"Yeah. It's very mathematical, they use averages and stuff," Sonny said gesturing with his hand. "It's not just about hitting the pins with the ball. A pro knows how to approach the alley. They know what angle they should hit the pins at, they know just how much arc their arm swing has to have, they know their angle of entry...which is how the ball travels into what's called the pocket. They perfect their approach to the lane."

Alexis raised an eyebrow, a bemused look on her face. "What on earth would happen if your...business associates found out you're a closet bowler?"

Sonny held up two hands. "Hey, I never said I was a bowler."

"Uh huh."

He cocked his head and shrugged. "We used to hang around the lanes a lot when we were bored up in Brooklyn...you pick up things."

"Apparently. Please...do go on."

"Well, see, the bowler figures out all kinds of stuff...like their axis of rotation. That's the measure of rotation on the ball as it relates to the lane. Depending on how they want the ball to hook...that's how they figure the degree of rotation that they should throw the ball."

Alexis watched the television figuring she might as well indulge him. "All right. The announcer just called that man a bagger."

"No, he said he had a four bagger...meaning he has four consecutive strikes in a row."

"I thought that was called a turkey."

Sonny smiled. "Ah hah...you do know a little about bowling."

"Very little. We had to take a season of it at boarding school." She waved her hand. "I really didn't pay that much attention to it."

Sonny smirked. "A turkey is three strikes in a row."

"What's five in a row...an ostrich?" Alexis joked.

Sonny laughed. "You're a regular laugh riot tonight."

Alexis leaned in towards him. "That's because I really don't care about bowling." She stretched her arms above her head. "Or any other sport tonight for that matter."

"Why's that?"

Alexis shrugged. "Because I'd rather just go upstairs and have sex," she said matter of factly.

Sonny froze and looked at her. "Oh, I see. You're unavailable all day and now you want sex."

Alexis rose up from her end of the couch and moved to him, kneeling next to him on the couch, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. "That really bothered you that I wasn't around today didn't it?"

Sonny shrugged his head. "I...I missed you that's all."

"Sonny, I had to take care of a client."

"I'm your client...you take care of me on Sundays."

"Are you getting possessive?" Alexis mused as she bent her head and placed a kiss on his lips.

"Not at all..." he rubbed his eyes. "I'm not saying this right."

Alexis pressed herself up against him. "Maybe we need to work on your approach," she smiled seductively at him.

He gave her the dimples. "I could use the practice," he said as he stood up and took her hand, leading her to the stairs. "Think I could become a four bagger?"

Alexis thought for a moment and smiled. "You set your sights so low. Isn't there ten frames in bowling?"

Sonny grinned. "You keep talking like that and I'll show you my seven ten split."
