chapter 6 - Two Minutes in the Box

Sonny took Alexis' elbow as he led her through the crowd to a door marked authorized personnel only. He pushed the door open and led her through where a large man in a jacket that said security moved in front of them. He smiled. "Good evening Mr. Corinthos."

Sonny smiled back and flicked his head. "Evening Mitch. How's it going?"

The man shrugged. "Can't complain. Haven't seen you here in a long time."

"Yeah, I don't get to the games much…" he stole a glance at Alexis. "But tonight's a special occasion," he smiled as he turned his gaze back to the guard.

The guard waved his hand toward an elevator. "Your box is all ready. Everything you asked for is set up."

Sonny winked. "Thanks." He said as he handed the man a bill. He looked back to Alexis. "Ready?"

Alexis rolled her eyes. "I still can't believe I let you talk me into this."

Sonny chuckled and hit the button for the elevator. The door opened and they stepped inside. "Yeah well…Alexis Davis at a sporting event…the world must be ending."

Alexis shot him a look. "All right, lets not get over dramatic." The elevator opened and he led her by the hand down a hallway with doors on both sides. Another guard met them and opened one of the doors with his keys. "Enjoy the game," he said as they stepped inside.

Alexis looked around the box, taking in the two over sized chairs that sat in front of a plexi glass window, a leather couch on one wall, a bar off to one corner of the box and a serving tray on wheels sat next to one of the chairs, silver domes sat atop it. Alexis turned back to Sonny. "This is all so lavish."

Sonny smiled. "Nothing but the best for you," he said as he went to the tray and lifted the cover.

Alexis laughed. "Hamburgers?" Sonny shrugged. "We're at a sporting event…you were expecting filet minon?" He gestured to one of the chairs. "Have a seat."

Alexis sat in the chair and marveled at the level of comfort it provided. "You never told me you owned boxes?"

Sonny nodded. "I have a box for every major sporting event in New York." He shrugged. "I just don't use them that often. I usually give them away."

Sonny went to the bar and opened the small refrigerator. "Beer?"

Alexis nodded. "Sure, why not. I'm actually starting to like the stuff."

"See that?" Sonny commented and retrieved two Heinekens from the fridge. Grabbing a large bowl off of the bar he moved and sat down in the chair next to Alexis, dropping the bowl in her lap.

"Popcorn…you do care." Alexis quipped as she dug into her favorite treat. "So when does the game start?"

Sonny pointed to the scoreboard hanging high above the floor in the center of the arena. "See the clock up there?"

Alexis nodded. "It says ten minutes and counting…then the players will take the ice."

"Take it where?" Alexis furrowed her brow.

Sonny rolled his eyes. "Here we go. I mean that they will come out onto the ice and start the game."

"Gotcha." Alexis said as she concentrated on her bowl of popcorn. "This is the game where they score goals right?"

"That's right."

She beamed. "See…I do know a thing or two about sports."

Sonny shook his head. "You've been asking if this is the game where they score goals ever since we started…your sports lessons."

"You don't have to be so touchy…you know I don't know a damn thing about sports."

Sonny narrowed his eyes. "Except for pool."

Alexis blushed remembering last week's encounter at Jake's "Except for pool." She flashed a mischievous grin. "You just can't let that one go can you?"

Sonny feigned boredom and picked a piece of popcorn out of her bowl. "Let what go? You're good at pool…you beat me…I'm man enough to accept that."

"Right," Alexis replied not buying it for a second.

Sonny looked at her. "Besides…I let you win. I just wanted to get the game over with and get you on the table," he said as he turned casually back to looking down at the ice.

Alexis stopped mid-handful of popcorn and glanced at him with a raised eyebrow. She opened her mouth but sighed and closed it back up shaking her head. Half an hour later, the hockey game was in full swing…and so were Alexis' questions. "I don't get it…why do they keep sending the players off to that gate over there?"

"Okay, that's the penalty box. That's where the guys go if get charged with a penalty."

Alexis squinted. "Explain a penalty."

Sonny rubbed his temple. "Okay. The guy that's sitting in the box now…he was called for high sticking. That's where he raises his stick above shoulder length. They're not allowed to do that, so he gets a penalty. High sticking is a minor penalty so he goes to the box for two minutes. Now his team will have to play short handed for two minutes."

Alexis nodded and sat forward in her chair. "All right…I get it…high sticking." She made a mental note.

Sonny turned his attention back to the game where Eric Lindros had just completed his third goal of the game."

Sonny stood and clapped his hands together. He turned back to Alexis who stood up and moved so she was beside him. "He just got a hat trick. That's when a player scores three goals in a game."

"Good for him." Alexis replied trying to sound enthusiastic.

Sonny shook his head and looped his arm around her waist. She leaned into him as they stood and pretended to stare out of the window at the game. "It's a big deal. Hockey is a low scoring game. It's not easy to score a goal, let alone three."

The buzzer in the arena sounded, signaling the end of the second period. The crowd below getting up from their seats to hit the washrooms or purchase more nachos and beer.

Alexis breathed deep, trying to ignore the fact that the usual signs pointing to a sexual encounter with Sonny were starting to show. "They do seem to go back and forth a lot."

Sonny nodded and let his arm slip down and clasp her hand. "It's an action packed game."

"Aren't they all," Alexis replied under her breath.

"So what do you think of your first time being at an actual sporting event?" Sonny asked as he led Alexis over to the leather couch and sat down, pulling her next to him.

"It's definitely more exciting than watching on television."

Sonny tilted his head and gazed at her. "That hurts…I thought I made sports very exciting for you," he said as he ran a finger down her arm.

Alexis bowed her head to hide the blush she knew was evident on her face. "You…" she cleared her throat. "You do….you definitely do…" she looked up at Sonny who had the smile of the devil on his face.

She shook her head. "Why do you intentionally try to fluster me?"

He cupped her chin in his hand. "Because you are one of the only people I know who's sexier than hell when she's flustered."

Alexis sighed and turned her head. "I think the game's starting again."

"Uh huh." Sonny said lazily as he fiddled with the top button of Alexis' blouse, undoing it and starting on the second.

Alexis met his eyes and smiled. "You really think you're smooth don't you?"

"Who me?" he widened his eyes in innocence, continuing his quest to unbutton her blouse all the way, finally freeing the remaining buttons and gently parting the two pieces of fabric.

Alexis continued to hold his gaze. "What is it exactly that you think you're doing?" she asked in a low seductive voice.

Sonny stopped pushed the blouse off of her shoulders and kissed her exposed skin. "I was thinking that maybe I'd go for my own power play."

"Power play?"

"Yeah, that's when the other team has a guy in the penalty box, so their short one guy, and the other team tries totake advantage of the situation."

Alexis involuntarily let out a small squeak of pleasure as Sonny's mouth found the hollow of her neck. "So…you're taking advantage of the situation?"

Sonny pulled back and looked at her for a moment before taking her head in both of his hands and kissing her passionately. He moved his mouth from hers and brushed her ear with his lips. "I'm going for my own hat trick."

"Is that right?" Alexis replied breathlessly.

"Yeah…how am I doing?"

Alexis placed a kiss on his neck, just behind his ear lobe. "I think you're going to get called for high sticking," she whispered as she pushed him down on the couch.
