chapter 4 - Knock Out

Sonny lay in his bed, hands tucked up behind his head, staring at the ceiling. Sunday had rolled around again. Sports day, as he had come to call it in his head. He smiled at the thought of formulating a plan to get Alexis back into his penthouse for their weekly...stress reliever, as Alexis had referred to it earlier in the week. He didn't have to think very hard though, his phone jingled, piercing the silence. He picked it up. "Yeah."

"Can't you ever say hello when you answer the phone?" came his attorney's voice.

"Hello," he replied. Let the games begin, he thought to himself and smiled.

"That's better. Did I wake you?"

"Nope, I was just getting up when you called...everything all right?"

He could hear the nervousness in her voice. "Oh...um...yes, everything's fine. I mean, I just got a Fed Ex with the paper work for the warehouses. I thought you might want to go through them. That is, unless you're busy today...then we could just go over them tomorrow...or when you're not busy..."

"Alexis," Sonny laughed.

"What?"

"You are so transparent."

"Excuse me?"

"You don't think I know why you really called?"

"Wait a second..."

"I know exactly what you want," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Listen Corinthos...you have no idea what you're..."

"You're hungry."

There was a silence on the other end of the line. "I'm hungry?"

"Yeah, you want me to cook you breakfast don't you?"

Sonny heard her sigh of relief on the other end of the phone. "Okay, you busted me...but I do have these contracts."

"Bring them over in about a half an hour and I'll have an omelet here for you."

"Sounds good."

"See you soon," he said and then hung up the phone. Sonny sprang from his bed and showered quickly. Then he went downstairs and started on breakfast. Once that was made and sitting in his warmer, he moved to the living room where he flipped on the television. It was still tuned to the sports channel from last week. He watched as two men discussed an upcoming boxing match that was to start in fifteen minutes. "Perfect," he thought as he adjusted the sound.

Ten minutes later he heard the familiar knock on his door. He took a deep breath and tried to wipe the obvious smile off of his face. "Come on in," he called as he moved back to the kitchen to get breakfast.

When he returned Alexis was sitting on the couch, glasses perched on her nose, several documents strewn about her lap. "These are fine," she said not looking up at him. "I would like to change some of the wording on the last couple of pages, but they should be ready for you to sign this week." She glanced up at him. "That smells wonderful," she said, indicating the two plates in his hands.

"Of course it does, I cooked it," he replied setting the two dishes down on the table in front of the couch.

"Aren't we going to eat at the table?" she asked.

Sonny shook his head. "Nope." He flicked his head at the television. "There's a match on that I want to see."

"Match?"

"Boxing."

Alexis stabbed a piece of omelet with her fork. "Is that the sport where two grown men hit one another until the other falls down?"

"Exactly," Sonny replied.

"How perfect for you."

Sonny looked at her. "Not nice counselor."

Alexis set her now empty plate down on the table and relaxed back into the couch. "So...start explaining."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Twenty minutes later both Sonny and Alexis were sitting on the edge of the couch cushions. Alexis' hands positioned so she could cover her eyes when necessary. "Why do they keep hugging each other like that?"
Sonny smiled -- he found her lack of sporting knowledge adorable. "They're not hugging. It's sort of a stall tactic. When one guy is getting pounded, he'll move in and wrap up the other guys arms, like you said, hugging almost. It's not allowed, so the referee will break them up and the guy who was getting pulverized can kind of reposition himself."
Alexis shook her head. "This is so barbaric." She glanced at Sonny. "I can see why you enjoy this."
Sonny opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by the sound of the bell from the television going off.
"What happened?" Alexis asked confused.
Sonny shrugged one shoulder and pointed. "The guy in the blue trunks won."
Alexis spread her hands out. "But no one passed out."
"Knocked out, no one was knocked out."
"Whatever. I thought you had to knock someone out to win."
Sonny laughed. "Yeah, you do, but they went all ten rounds and no one got knocked out, so they decide the match on a point system. Who got the most punches in, etc., it's called a technical knock out as opposed to if one of them did fall down for a ten count, and then it would be a regular old knock out."
"Sure." Alexis replied, not really getting it anyway.
Sonny flipped off the television and they both settled back against the couch. Sonny cast a sidelong glance at her.
"So...you think I'm barbaric?"
Alexis blushed, although she didn't know why. "I didn't say you were barbaric."
Sonny pursed his lips. "I think I'm pretty much a gentleman."
Alexis patted his knee. "You just keep on thinking that."
"Well you see, if I was a barbarian ..." he said as he stood up. "I wouldn't be able to control myself."
"Control yourself?"
He nodded. "Yeah. See if I was a barbarian, like you indicate that I am, I would just rip off my clothes, like this," he said as he tore his silk shirt open, sending buttons everywhere."
"Sonny." Alexis said with a raised eyebrow.
"And then I would grab you...like this." He reached down and roughly pulled her up off of the couch by her arm, pulling her to him. "And I'd ravage your lips with kisses...like this." He attacked her mouth and neck for several minutes as Alexis, stunned, did nothing to stop him.
"Okay...I get the point...you're not a barbarian." Alexis protested.
Sonny shook his head. "Nah..." he said as he lifted Alexis off of the ground and set her down on the couch with a loud, playful growl. He kneeled over her and pulled open her blouse, again, buttons flying in all directions. "I think I like being a barbarian." He crushed his mouth down on hers again.
When he finally let her up for air, Alexis smiled. "You're certainly good at it."
He flashed the dimples. "You ain't seen nothing yet."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sonny and Alexis sat side by side on the couch, both silent, both unsure of what to say, both completely naked underneath a blanket. Alexis leaned her head on Sonny's shoulder and closed her eyes. A smile of contentment graced her face. "You owe me for that blouse you ripped Mr."

"Barbarians don't pay for blouses." He smiled back. "Besides, you didn't seem to mind while I was ripping it off of you."

Alexis' eyes shot open. "You know..." she shook her head. "I give up."

Sonny wrapped his arm around her shoulders and squeezed her closer to him. "So, you're not a big fan of boxing."

Alexis wrinkled her nose. "Not so much."

Sonny looked into her eyes and smiled with a wicked grin.

"Whaaat?" Alexis said slowly, narrowing her eyes.

"I think you'll like next week's sports lesson a little better."

"And what would that be?"

His grin grew wider. "Wrestling."
