chapter 3 - Just Puttering Around

Alexis awoke from her sleep much like she did any other day, that is, until she realized what day it was, Sunday. Normally this would not bother her, except for the fact that for the last few Sundays, she and Sonny had started a new ritual. A ritual which was both extremely pleasurable yet extremely unnerving.

Alexis pulled herself from her bed and made her way into the shower. After dressing and scoffing down last night's buttered popcorn remains, she opened her penthouse door to retrieve the Sunday paper. No sooner did she open the door than Sonny's clicked open as well.

She looked up from her doubled over position. "Morning." She said as she picked up the paper and straightened up.

Sonny flicked his head at her. "Morning." He wiped his chin with his index finger. "You busy later?"

Alexis bit down on her lower lip. "Define later."

Sonny shrugged. "I don't know…whenever."

Alexis raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

Sonny let out a sigh. "I got some new contracts in the mail yesterday."

Alexis nodded her head. "I'm not doing anything right now," she answered as she dropped the paper back onto the floor and followed him into his penthouse.

Sonny moved to his desk and picked up and eight by ten envelope. "Casinos."

Alexis nodded and adjusted her glasses. She took the envelope from him and opened it as she sat down on the couch. "These look just like the other ones. I don't see many changes."

Sonny sat down beside her and stretched out, letting his elbows rest on the back of the couch. "Nothing I should worry about?" he said as he leaned forward and hit the power button on the remote control. Seconds later, the sound of a sporting event filled the living room.

Alexis snapped her head up. "What? Do you have twenty four-hour sports viewing channels. Doesn't your t.v. get anything else?"

Sonny smiled. "I guess when it finds something it likes, it stays with it," he said, indicating the television.

Alexis slipped the documents back into their envelope and flipped it onto the coffee table. "You can sign those."

"Will do," Sonny acknowledged as he focused on the screen in front of him.

Alexis rolled her eyes. "So? What's today's sporting event?"

"Golf," he replied matter of factly.

"Golf," she repeated. "I've definitely heard about that one. Ned took me to the country club once and tried to teach me." She shook her head. "Those clubs are ridiculous. They bend so easily."

Sonny turned his head to her. "Bend?"

"Oh, and you should have seen Ned. I've never seen his face that shade of purple. You would think that he couldn't just bend it back into place."

Sonny blinked. "You bent a golf club?"

Alexis nodded. "Ned called it wood, but that doesn't make sense since it was made out of some sort of metal."

Sonny tried to hide his laughter. "You bent Ashton's wood?" he couldn't control himself as he doubled over with more laughter.

Alexis gave him a confused look. "What's so horrible…oh never mind. I turned out not to be very good at it." She shot him a frustrated glance. "Why are you laughing so hard?"

Sonny sat back upright and struggled to control himself. "It's just…I'm trying to picture Ashton standing there with his bent wood in his hand." His face reddened as he fought more laughter.

After a minute or two, Alexis tapped his shoulder. "Are you through?"

Sonny bit his lip and nodded yes.

"Good." She turned her attention to the screen. "So explain this game. It seems so tedious."

Half an hour later Sonny and Alexis sat side by side, with not an inch between them, their feet propped up on the coffee table in front of them. Somewhere in the course of her golf lesson, Sonny had slipped his arm around her shoulder. "So, what's a chip again?"

"A chip…or chipping, is when you are on the edge of the green and…"

Alexis held her hand up. "Green?"

"The big circle of grass around the hole."

"Gotcha, go on."

"Yeah, you use a chipper, or a pitching wedge to hit the ball into the air, but just enough to lift it up onto the green. You can also chip out of a hazard."

Alexis shook her head. "Hazard?"

Sonny sighed. "I'm getting a headache."

"Don't do that."

"I'll fight it," he said as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "A hazard can be any number of things. It could be water, it could be sand, and it could be a patch of rough…"he looked at her "and before you ask, rough is trees."

"So, playing golf is kind of like being on a beach?"

"Huh?"

"Well, all that sand and water…"

"Not quite."

"I just don't see what is so relaxing about hitting a tiny ball into "hazards" and then having to try and get it out."

Sonny raised both of his eyebrows and shook his head. "It usually is."

Alexis cast a glance his way. "I'm being annoying."

"No, no. I started this."

There was an awkward silence as the two of them sat quietly trying to broach the subject they both knew was inevitable.

Alexis took a deep breath. "Is this the part where we have sex?"

Sonny laughed and jumped on top of her, knocking her backward onto the couch. "I thought you'd never bring it up."

"I seem to have done an admirable job of that up until this point," she said coyly.

"And how," Sonny replied as his mouth found the hollow of her neck, his new favorite place to visit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sonny and Alexis sat side by side on the couch, both silent, both unsure of what to say, both completely naked underneath a blanket.
Sonny reached between them and interlaced his hand with hers. "Like golf?"
Alexis nodded. "I definitely take back what I said about it not being relaxing."
Alexis rolled her head from side to side. "I don't know how many more sporting events your couch can take."
Sonny shrugged. "I'll buy another one." He laughed. "I'll buy two…we can rotate them."
Alexis shook her head. "Hey."
"What?"
"You never did explain that hole in one thing."
Sonny smiled as he lay back on the sofa pulling Alexis on top of him. "Why don't I show you?"
