Game
Day

chapter
2 - A Whole New Game
Sonny
paced his living room. It had been two weeks since he and Alexis
had lost control and given in to
he didn't know what to call
it really, lust? Need? He shook his head and thought of how amazed
he was that Alexis wasn't freaking out about it. He thought for
sure that she'd react in some way, nervous, withdrawn, but when
he had seen her on the day after their tryst, she had acted normal,
even made a joke about football. The rest of the week had gone on
like any other week. They worked on documents when necessary, and
ran into one another in the hallway between their penthouses. Alexis
Davis was the last person he thought he would ever end up having
sex with, but it had happened. One minute he was explaining football
to her, the next minute he wanted her so bad it almost hurt.
She
had pulled her clothes back on afterward, thanked him for lunch
and for her new appreciation of football and left with a smile on
her face. That was it. Two weeks later she hadn't said another word
about their encounter and neither had he, not for lack of thinking
about it. He hadn't planned on it, but one night when they were
sitting on her couch looking over documents, the smell of her wafted
into his senses and he found himself smiling. Then he had gone back
to his place and found himself sitting on the couch, staring at
the cushions as if he could still see her there, naked, kissing
him, touching him, and these thoughts disturbed him. He wasn't supposed
to feel this way for his attorney, his best friend.
He
sat down on his couch and contemplated calling her over. He could
use some legal ruse to get her to come across the hall
and
coincidentally, he could have some sort of sporting event on television.
Before he could stop himself, he reached forward and grabbed the
television guide off of the coffee table, flipping through it until
he found the listings for that afternoon. He scanned the grid on
the page and discovered a Nick's game was starting in a half-hour.
He smiled and checked the listing for what was on just before the
Nick's game. Perfect, he thought as he spied an old movie that was
on. Picking up the remote, he flipped the television to the correct
channel and watched Katharine Hepburn give a tongue lashing to Humphrey
Bogart in The African Queen.
He
picked up the phone and dialed her number.
She
answered on the second ring. "Alexis Davis."
"Yeah,
uh
it's me. I was wondering if we could finish up those contracts
today."
He
heard an audible sigh on the other end of the phone and finally.
"Sure, why not. I'll be over in about ten minutes. Oh, and
Sonny?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm
expecting lunch."
"How
does a nice cold chicken salad sound?"
"Healthy,"
she replied flatly.
"I'll
add popcorn to it."
"I'll
see you in a few."
Sonny
chuckled to himself. What the heck was he doing? Trying to lure
Alexis over in the hopes that she would lose control with him again?
This was Alexis. She may have taken leave of her moralistic, rational
senses once, but twice?
His
thoughts were interrupted moments later when her knock sounded at
the door. He took a final look around the penthouse. Lunch on the
table, television at the ready, unnecessary legal documents on the
coffee table
okay, let's go. Sonny said to himself as he approached
the door and pulled it open to find Alexis standing there, leaning
against the doorframe in a pair of jeans and a lavender zip up sweatshirt.
She
cocked an eyebrow. "You know, I charge triple for Sundays."
Sonny's
eyes widened. "What?"
Alexis
rolled her eyes and walked past him into the penthouse. "I
charge triple to work on Sundays." She turned and looked at
him. "Where are the documents?"
Sonny
pointed to the coffee table. "I thought we'd have lunch first."
Alexis
shook her head. "Let's work first."
About
fifteen minutes later, all documents were signed and Sonny watched
as Alexis stuffed the papers into her briefcase. "I'll file
these tomorrow morning."
Sonny
nodded and pretended to be into the basketball game on television.
"Uh huh."
Alexis
glanced at the screen. "What's this?"
Sonny
turned his head to her. "Oh, basketball. The New York Nicks
versus the Boston Celtics."
"Is
that the one where they score goals?"
Sonny
chuckled. "No. They score baskets." He looked at her out
of the corner of his eye. "You up for another sports lesson?"
Alexis
thought about this for a moment, remembering how their last sports
lesson had ended up. She narrowed her eyes -- was he trying to re-create
the atmosphere? She shook her head. "Sure, why not
but
I want my lunch."
Sonny
popped up and headed for the kitchen. "I'll be right back."
He smiled as he turned around and went into the kitchen to finish
preparing the lunch that he had started earlier.
Half
an hour later, the lunch dishes sitting empty on the coffee table
next to two empty bottles of Heineken, Sonny sat explaining the
finer points of basketball.
"I
thought you said they had field goals in football."
Sonny
nodded. "They do, but they have them in basketball as well.
A field goal in basketball is when they shoot from the outside."
Sonny cheered as the Nicks sunk a basket. "Three pointer!"
he shouted.
"I
thought they got two points for throwing the ball into the little
basket."
Sonny
turned his body slightly towards her and clamped his hand on her
leg.
"Alexis,
it's shooting the ball and it's not a little basket, it's a net.
And yes, they get two points per basket, but they get three if they
shoot it from behind that big half circle there," he said using
the hand that wasn't assaulting Alexis' leg to point.
"You
just called it a basket
I thought you said it was a net."
Sonny
creased his brow in frustration. "When you shoot it and it
goes in it is a basket."
Alexis
shook her head. "Well, this is certainly confusing. It's not
a basket, but then it is."
"Aahhh!"
Sonny growled as he leaned back against the couch in defeat, drawing
his hand further up her thigh.
Alexis
cocked an eyebrow as she shifted her eyes to Sonny's hand on her
thigh. She raised her head and looked at Sonny, who flashed the
dimples. She smiled back and gave him a look of "you think
you're so slick mister."
She
raised an eyebrow again at him and he smiled even bigger as he leaned
over and took over her mouth with his own.
"Here
we go" was the last thought that coursed through Alexis' brain
before she shut her brain down completely.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sonny
and Alexis sat side by side on the couch, both silent, both unsure
of what to say, both completely naked underneath a blanket. Both
of them tilted their heads back on the couch and stared up at the
ceiling as they caught their breath.
Alexis
squeezed her eyes shut. "If I knew sports were so erotic, I
would have learned more about them a lot earlier in life,"
she quipped as she shook her head.
Sonny
chuckled. "Believe me, if I had known sports was some sort
of aphrodisiac, I would have tried out for a team or two in high
school." He rolled his head to the side to look at her.
"What?"
Alexis asked nervously.
"Nothing,
I was just
I don't know
looking at you."
A
wary look crept across Alexis' face. "Why?"
Sonny
shrugged and leaned forward to place another kiss on her lips, when
she stood up. "I've got to get going."
"Wow,
wham bam thank you Sonny man," Sonny retorted.
Alexis
shot him a look and tucked her chin down towards her chest. "I
really have to get going."
"I
thought we weren't going to get weird about this."
Alexis'
mouth dropped open for a second. "We're not
I'm not, I
have to go."
Sonny
stood up and went to her, taking her hand and leading her back to
the couch. "We're two friends helping each other out right?"
Alexis
nodded. "I guess so."
"So
what's the harm?"
Alexis
gave a slight shrug. "No harm."
Sonny
touched his finger to the underside of her chin and drew her eyes
up to meet his. "Good, cause Alexis?"
Her
breathing started to become shallower the more she stared at him.
"Hmm?"
Sonny
leaned in close and kissed her. He pulled his head back from hers
and flashed the dimples. "I need a lot of help," he whispered
as he gently guided Alexis back down onto the couch cushions, capturing
her mouth again.
Alexis
creased her brow. "Is this what they call overtime?" she
murmured against his lips.
Sonny
stopped his assault and looked into her eyes. "That's next
week's lesson."
