An
Eye for an Eye
by Cowgirl
part
5
Sonny
found himself trapped in a fog-like trance as he sat in the back
of the limo on the way back to his penthouse. Things were stirring
in him that he'd never felt before. Seeing that dark-eyed curly
topped little princess with his mother's eyes and Alexis' smile
and knowing that she was part of him left him in a state of wonderment.
He leaned forward in his seat and brought his fist to his mouth
as emotion overtook him once more, he had a beautiful little girl
and Alexis was her mother. Alexis was going to be back in his life
again and he wasn't sure how he felt about that. For so long he
had pushed thoughts of Alexis and any emotions that came along with
those thoughts way back into the deepest part of his heart and now
they were bursting at the seams threatening to come flooding out
with a vengeance. There was a part something inside of him that
was overjoyed that for once in his life he had created something
so beautiful, something so right...something that he could be proud
of for the rest of his life and he had done it with someone as remarkable
as Alexis. He smiled at the thought and settled back in his seat.
He knew in his mind that if he had to go back to day one and pick
a mother for any of his children...he would pick Alexis in a heartbeat.
His little girl was the luckiest girl on earth.
His
mind more at ease now, Sonny climbed out of his limo and entered
Harborview Towers. Smiling all the way up to his penthouse, he stepped
out of the elevator where Max was waiting to open the door for him.
"Evening
sir," Max greeted him as he reached for the doorknob.
Sonny
clamped his hand down on Max's shoulder halting him from opening
the door just yet. "You know what I just did Max?"
"The
burly guard shook his head in the negative. "No sir."
Sonny
smiled brightly. "I just met my daughter for the first time
tonight."
The
bodyguard looked steadily confused for a moment. "Congratulations,"
he said wearily.
"Thanks
Max," Sonny said cheerfully as he strode into his penthouse.
His
good mood lasted only seconds more as his eyes landed on the visitor
waiting for him on his couch. "Carly, what are you doing here?"
Carly
sat up. "I came in through the back. I need to talk to you."
Sonny
eyeballed her. She had that look on her face. The one he'd seen
a thousand times. The one that told him she was about to lie through
her teeth. He raised and eyebrow and removed his suit coat. "What's
that?" he asked casually.
Carly
cleared her throat and stood up. "There's something I need
to tell you."
Sonny
continued to act deaf, dumb and blind as he walked to the bar to
pour himself a scotch. "Oh yeah?"
Carly
nodded. "Yeah. I...found out something and I can't keep it
from you any longer." She sang out with all the drama of an
under rehearsed actress. Sonny kept his back to her and smiled.
"It wouldn't be that you knew for a fact that Kristina is my
daughter and you chose to blackmail Alexis with it instead of telling
me now, would it?" He turned and met Carly's terrified face.
"I...I
had every intention of telling you," she stammered.
"When
Carly? When you were good and done with making Alexis dance like
your very own personal puppet?"
"I
was scared that you would take Michael and Morgan."
"Don't
use my kids like that. Don't bring them up every time you back yourself
into a corner," he said angrily.
"Oh
that's right Sonny. I'm so horrible...I'm such a bad mother but
at least I didnt keep your children from you for almost two
years," she shouted back at him.
He
wheeled on her. "Don't you dare throw that around. You..."
He pointed a finger at her. "You use those kids whenever the
need arises. They're like pawns to you."
"Oh
and what Miss perfect did was okay? I forgot, it's Alexis and she
can do no wrong."
Sonny
sniffed and shook his head. "You know what the difference is
here Carly? Alexis did what she thought was necessary to keep her
child out of harm's way. She gave up everything, she almost lost
everything because her child...my child meant everything to her.
I will be grateful to her everyday for the rest of my life that
she loves our child enough to put her before anything else."
Carly
curled her lip. "How can you just forgive that woman no matter
what she says or does?"
He
moved around the room. "Alexis didn't keep Kristina from me
to punish me. She didn't keep her from me out of some sick and twisted
revenge scheme because she's not that kind of person. That's how
I can forgive her. That's how." He was shouting now. "You
have never shown that kind of devotion for our children. And you
know what the sad part is here Carly? Neither have I and it makes
me sick that I could be that way." He stopped to catch his
breath as the reality of what he just said took effect on him. His
eyes brimmed with tears. "Ever since you came back after your
accident I have been nothing but a selfish, egotistical jerk."
He shook his head again. "I'm not going to be that way ever
again. I'm going to take a lesson from Alexis and put my kids first."
He looked at Carly. "Alexis has agreed to stay on as your lawyer.
She's agreed to help us work something out so that we can do this
with the least amount of trauma for Michael and Morgan."
"What
if I don't want to work something out?" Carly said in one last
attempt to be indignant.
Sonny
let out a sarcastic laugh. "Then Alexis will quit as your attorney
and you'll lose. You don't have a choice here, it's joint custody
or nothing."
Carly
stomped to the door and stopped just shy of opening it. "I'll
give you joint custody Sonny. I have no problem with that...but
you're going to be sorry. You take up with Alexis again and she'll
destroy you just like she did before."
"Yeah
well, I'll take my chances."
"You
think she's just going to take you back and the three of you will
be this happy little family?"
Sonny sighed, the fight suddenly draining from his body. "No
Carly. I've hurt Alexis way too much for that. I'll just accept
that she's let me into my daughter's life."
Carly
shook her head. "You are so blind. You think that Alexis cares
about you? Look at all the things she's said and done to destroy
you. Look at what she brought up in court, things she told you in
confidence...you could never be happy with her." She gave one
last shot as she pulled open the door and walked out.
Sonny
stared after her for a second. "I was happy with her...I was
just too damn blind to see it," he muttered to himself.
Lorenzo
stared at the file in front of him. It told him no more than he
already knew. Alexis Davis was Russian royalty, a princess. She
was Harvard educated and was considered one of the best lawyers
in the country. He flipped through pages for anything that would
give him some advantage. Earlier in the week when his contact had
given him the file he had been disappointed. There was nothing there
that he could use to punish this infernal woman who seemed to leave
a mark wherever she went. Then Carly, even in breaking his heart
had provided him with a way, not only to punish Miss Davis, but
also to finally bring his nemesis, one Sonny Corinthos to his knees.
Carly hadn't so much as said the words, but her unrelenting jealousy
and hatred of Alexis only served to prove that she feared that Sonny
had indeed loved Alexis...and still did. He would use this newfound
information to remove both of them from his life. First, he would
bide his time. He would wait until Sonny and Alexis delved further
into rekindling their bond now that their daughter's paternity was
out in the open, and it would happen. During the trial when Alexis
had questioned Sonny on the stand it was blatantly obvious that
it was killing Alexis to have to drag up Sonny's personal history,
and better yet, it was killing him that she would dare. He hadn't
understood it at the time. He wondered what exactly it was between
Sonny and Alexis, but now he knew. They were two lovers torn apart
and forced to hurt one another and he would use that to his advantage.
He would wait until they were back in one another's orbits and he
would strike. He would take Miss Alexis Davis down and hard...and
in doing so would destroy Sonny Corinthos as well. As for Carly,
he would teach her a lesson in the process about toying with people's
emotions.
He smiled and picked up the drink that sat on the table in front
of him. Taking a sip, he sighed contently. Everything was falling
into place and soon the people who had wronged he and his family
would get their just rewards.
