An Eye for an Eye

It was the smug way she would stand and act like nothing that he said to her made a difference. He would wax on poetic about the cruel irony of her getting away with murdering his brother and she would say nothing, wait for him to finish and then turn and continue her conversation with Carly. Lorenzo was not used to being dismissed in that fashion. Even if she didn't actually say the words, it was clear from her look. That 'are you finished' expression on her face. He remembered a conversation between the three of them that had particularly galled him. She had come over to his penthouse to review Carly's case with her. Carly had let her in and she had stepped inside stopping to look at him briefly. "I really think that our strategy sessions should be private," she said to Carly. "Between the two of us."

Lorenzo had sucked back the feeling of wanting to wrap his hands around her throat and stood up with a smile.

"Why Miss Davis, are you ordering me out of my own home once again?"

She had rolled her eyes. "I'm simply stating that as Carly's attorney I don't think it wise to have her drug dealing lover in on all the pertinent details of her custody case." She waved a hand. "If Carly would like to meet somewhere else that isn't here, that's fine with me. The less I have to see you the better Mr. Alcazar."

He took a few steps closer to her, his smile fading. "Is it because you can't stand the guilt of looking at me? Does it make you antsy to stare into the same face of the man you murdered?"

She had paused a moment and then sucked in a breath of air. "Tell me Mr. Alcazar, do you think for one moment that your brother felt the least bit of remorse for blowing my sister to pieces?" she said coolly.

"Your sister's death was unfortunate. I hardly think it was my brother's intention to harm her."

She laughed. "Really. Is that why he called her..." She tapped a finger to her head. "Oh yes, I remember. Collateral damage was the word he used." She took a step away from him. "Did he intend me harm when he left me in labor in the snow writhing in pain, terrified that I was about to lose my baby?"

"Look, Lorenzo had nothing to do with what happened to your sister. He's not responsible for what Luis did." Carly interjected and then turned to Lorenzo. "Just let us talk for a while. We won't be long." She leveled her gaze to Alexis. "Will we Alexis?"

"Believe me Carly. I have no intention of spending any more time with the two of you then I have to."

Lorenzo's blood was boiling. How could Carly even consider using this woman as her attorney? He cleared his throat and moved to a chair, picking up his jacket that lay strewn across it. "I'll be back soon," he said in a low voice.

"We won't be long," Carly reassured him.

He kissed her briefly and walked past Alexis with an icy stare in her direction as he left.

When he was gone Carly turned to Alexis. "Okay, you know what? You really need to lose the attitude with Lorenzo. He's trying to help."

Alexis shook her head. "Carly, as far as I'm concerned Lorenzo Alcazar is a non-entity. I'm not concerned with him other than the fact that you should listen to my advice and stay the hell away from him until this custody hearing is over."

Carly sniffed. "Even after all this time and everything that you've done you still act all high and mighty around me."
Alexis had just about all she could take. "Carly, I realize that there is a lot that you're holding over my head to make me represent you, but you are really trying my patience." She headed for the door. "From now on if you want to speak to me about your case then you make an appointment with my secretary and come down to my office."

"Fine," Carly retorted.

Alexis opened the door and stopped. "And don't bring your boyfriend with you."

Lorenzo gripped the crystal tumbler that was clutched in his hand and tilted it back and forth a couple of times causing the amber liquid inside to slosh back and forth like a pendulum. Taking a slow, deep breath he calmed his inner turmoil and listened to the man on the other end of his cell phone.

"We can't find too much on her Mr. Alcazar. Who ever she really is, she's been damn good about making sure not too much can be found out about her."

Lorenzo's hand tightened around his glass even further. "I pay you a rather large sum of money to get me what I want. You find something. No one can hide that well forever."

"I'll do my best sir, but beyond her boarding school days and later law school, it's like Alexis Davis never existed."

"Well she's here walking the earth so she had to start somewhere," he said with a slow simmering anger creeping into his tone. "Find me what I need!" he shouted and disconnected the call.

He leaned his head on the back of the chair and closed his eyes for a moment to collect his thoughts. Alexis Davis, the woman was driving him to insanity. He tried to dismiss her at first, but the more he saw of her the angrier he became. His eyes snapped open at the sound of the door being opened. He smiled as Carly entered and tossed her purse on the table. "Back already?"

Carly nodded and blew out a puff of air. "Yeah, I couldn't put my heart into shopping today." She shook her head. "I have to know what Sonny has up his sleeve. I've got to find a way to break down his defenses."

He held out a hand beckoning her to come to him. "I thought that's what you have Miss Davis for."

Carly rolled her eyes as she planted herself on his lap. "Alexis is a good attorney and she hates Sonny, but I don't know if she'll actually go through with all of her ingenious plans to destroy his credibility."

"If she hates him, then why wouldn't she?"

Carly's eyebrow shot up and she looked away. "Because she has a soft spot for him."

This piqued Lorenzo's interest. "Miss Davis doesn't seem to me like the type of woman that would be swayed by the charms of Sonny Corinthos."

Carly stood up and plodded across the room to the bar where she poured herself a drink. "Yeah, well, she chased after him like a puppy the entire time we were together." She turned to Lorenzo angry just thinking about it. "She was in love with him."

Lorenzo stood and paced a few steps through the room, crossing his arms over his chest. "Interesting. Interesting indeed." He turned to Carly. "And how do you know she was in love with him? You and she do not seem to be the best of friends."

"Oh God, it was so obvious. She practically drooled whenever they were in the same room," she said with disgust.

"And did Sonny return her feelings?"

Carly's head snapped to her. "No," she said adamantly.

Lorenzo smiled. "Then why does it appear to agitate you so?"

Carly sighed heavily. "Because of the way she wormed her way into his life. She manipulated him into making her his confidant."

Lorenzo eyed Carly cautiously. There was something more than what she was telling him, something that had her seething with the thought of it. He tilted his head. "Mr. Corinthos doesn't seem like a man who could be easily manipulated."

"She was good at it. She made it seem like he needed her more than he did."

Lorenzo nodded. "I see. I'm curious though. It's more than obvious that you and Miss Davis have a clear dislike for one another. How is it then that you sought out her counsel on this matter...or that she would accept."

Carly gave a sarcastic laugh. "Alexis is the best attorney around, and let's just say I made her an offer she couldn't refuse."

"So you have something on her?" he asked curiously.

Carly nodded. "Oh I have something on her."

Lorenzo moved to Carly and wrapped his arms around her from behind, nuzzling his face into her neck. "Then why don't you tell me what that is so we can keep her in check together?"

Carly craned her neck around to look at him, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "I don't know if I should trust you with this information," she said teasingly.

Lorenzo smiled and tightened his grip on her, his hand running down her side. "I think I've proven that I would do anything you asked of me."

Carly smiled even bigger. "I suppose you have." She turned around so she was facing him. "You know that kid of Alexis'?"

Lorenzo nodded slightly confused. "Her daughter, yes, I suppose that little girl is the only reason Miss Davis has been spared my hostility, but what of her?"

Carly licked her lips. "Well, it would seem Alexis is keeping a whopper of a secret that she wouldn't want Sonny to find out about."

The gears in Lorenzo's head stopped cold as he processed what Carly had just told him. "I thought Ned Ashton was the father of her child," he said shakily.

Carly wagged her head slowly from side to side. "Apparently not."

"You know this for a fact?"

"She told me herself...I had my suspicions right after she became pregnant." She shrugged. "There was even a paternity test, but apparently it was rigged to say Ned was the father so she could keep Kristina away from Sonny."

Lorenzo stepped out of Carly's embrace, and new surge of excitement coursing through him. He moved around the room, his thoughts spinning wildly.

Carly watched with concern as his mind spun into overdrive. "Lorenzo, you have to keep this between us. If Sonny finds out..."

Lorenzo turned and gave her a look. "Then it would ruin your chance at reconciliation?" he asked coldly.

"No, that's not what I meant."

"No?"

"I just meant that Alexis won't have any reason to work for me if Sonny knows."

Lorenzo smiled. "Well, if Sonny knows about his child with Alexis, then he would have a whole new bone to chew on wouldn't he? He wouldn't concentrate on you as much..." He stopped and raised a finger into the air. "But therein lies our problem doesn't it?

Carly inwardly worried. There was something in Lorenzo's eyes that she didn't like. A fury, a fire of some sort and she had the distinct feeling that it had nothing to do with her.

"Lorenzo, I need Alexis to win custody of my kids." She shrugged feigning indifference. "After that...Sonny can do whatever he wants to Alexis. He can have her kid for all I care." She turned to look at him, but he wasn't listening to her. He was staring off into space, his mind clearly on something else. "Lorenzo?" she called.

He blinked and looked at her. "Fine then. You finish this custody business with Mr. Corinthos and then I will use this new and exciting information to deal with Miss Davis for the crime she committed and got away with."
